Creepy Unsolved Mysteries - From unsolved murders to unidentified people to unexplained supernatural events, what are some of the creepiest unsolved mysteries you've ever heard of?

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
In December 2018 I worked at a Walmart supercenter I worked 2-10pm I lived alone in a small one bedroom apartment
I came home from work one day (I needed to poop really bad) I got home and proceeded to use the restroom..... My toilet seat was already warm...... To this day this has been an unsolved mystery that keeps me up at night

Speaking of terrifying composite sketches, this is extremely late, but the identity of one of the most infamous ones was figured out back in March.

This is supposed to be Susan Lund, a pregnant mother of three who went missing on Christmas Eve, 1992, and the only thing ever found of her was her head which was found in a bush twelve days later.

Apparently, the reason reconstruction looks like that is because Lund's skull, and vertebrae showed signs of someone suffering from Wryneck syndrome, which usually makes someone's head tilt to the side. It can also cause facial asymmetry, but nowhere near to the extent as depicted.

Composite sketches do tend to exaggerate features, but in this case, that doesn't excuse anything, because Susan looked absolutely nothing like this.

This is actually her.

Quite a difference, huh?

She was eventually given a new sketch that didn't make her look like a creepy tard suffering from a facial tic, and a broken neck, and was identified through genealogy earlier this year.

Susan's family, while being relieved that their loved one was finally identified, was still naturally very pissed about everything.

“I was angry because she’s been there for 29 years,” Her sister was quoted as saying.

And you know what? I kinda am, too. Imagine being a pregnant mother getting decapitated on Christmas Eve, and this being your legacy. I genuinely think that if they just did a better reconstruction, she would've been identified a lot fucking sooner, too

Rest in peace, Susan. I hope that when your killer is found, their face, and neck gets as mangled as yours was in that godawful "reconstruction".

You can kind of see a very vague resemblance, moreso in the sketch, in the features they got right, but the lips and the eyes in particular are so off that you wouldn't think for a second it was her. Just goes to show that while your skull says a lot, the smaller details are what matter the most (see: facial feminization surgery).

It's amazing how bad some reconstructions are and it makes you wonder how the fuck the people doing them were even given the chance. There have been some threads on true crime subreddits I follow about the worst reconstructions people have ever seen, and some of them straight up look like grade school art projects.

Shout out to Frank Bender, because even though he had photos of John List to go off of for the famous age progression sculpt that got him, it's insane how accurate his estimation was. And he was mostly self-taught.

Shit like this makes me think the facial reconstruction "experts" do this intentionally to make certain features stick in your mind. You can kinda see the skew in Susan's head but it isn't nearly as prominent as the drawing and reconstruction would have you believe. I don't get why the police don't force these people to either trace a photo and capture what is able to be captured of the victim's features as accurately as possible (when possible of course) since that could make or break the case. Like you said this is not only pants on head retarded from a practical point of view, but just plain disrespectful towards the deceased.

I bet her killer had the rest of her body stored somewhere for necrophiliac purposes. I hope he rots in hell.

The Belgium Sex Trafficking Scandal in 1996.
He had girls locked in cages in his home and at a remote site (garage). When the nation's top prosecutor was zeroing in on the network of associates that Marc Dutroux was serving, the DA was pulled off the case. He was replaced by a Gvmt shill that conclude that Dutroux acted with 2 accomplishes.

(shitty Guardian synopsis)
The nation tore itself apart and 300,000+ protestors stormed the buildings in The White March, leading to a reorganization of Begium LEOs (meaningless).

Puzzle #1:

Dutroux's arrest on car theft charges

Marc Dutroux was arrested on 6 December 1995 on car theft charges and subsequently jailed for four months.[39] During those three months, Lejeune and Russo, undiscovered by police, died of starvation and dehydration in their dungeon cell, as the wife of Dutroux did not feed them, despite being aware that they required her care to remain alive
^^^Shitty wikipedia article.

The girls actually lived in their cells for months, obviously being tended by someone while Dutroux was jailed. That person never was found.

Puzzle #2
After the trial (_years_), seized porn tapes (including Dutroux's rape of various victims) were revealed to _NOT_ have been used as evidence. This fact pointed to a ring of accomplishes, most never identified. Survivors came forward in 2004

Régina Louf.[3] X1 said that from the age of 11/12 onwards a family friend named Tony Van den Bogaert took her to sex parties with the approval of her family. Several witnesses and family members of Louf confirmed that she had a sexual relationship with Van den Bogaert starting from at least age 12. However, Van den Bogaert has never been interrogated, charged or convicted for sexual abuse. She claimed that other minors were present at the sex parties and that those were secretly filmed for blackmail purposes. She said: "It was highly organised. Big business. Blackmail. There was a lot of money involved." During her testimony she described some regular clients including judges, a prominent politician and one banker. She gave the police names, addresses and detailed description of two murders that matched unsolved cases of the two murders of teenage girls. Louf said that the parties did not only include sex but also sadism, torture and murder.
(wikipedia excerpt)

The book:
Van Heeswyck, Marie-Jeanne; Bulté, Annemie; De Coninck, Douglas; The X-Dossiers, 1999
Does a good job poking at the (now obvious) hints at a European sex-trafficking ring.

In 1999, it was unthinkable. Now, with Epstein, Maxwell, etc, we expect it.

The "White Whale" for me is the St. Louis Jane Doe case. Because it was a clusterfuck. If they can identify her I feel like there's no stopping identification.

Replying to my own post because there is a documentary to be released within the month called Our Precious Hope Revisited that I hope is fascinating and useful.

I'm eager to watch it and see what it all comes up with. There's been little about the case since they lost the clothing.

One disturbing detail I should point out: Susan was abducted on Christmas Eve, not killed. Her PMI showed that she had been killed 2-3 days (January 24-25) before her head was found.

She was being held captive.

Isn't the current belief that the pilot just decided to kill himself and take the passengers with him? And thats why he took it so off course.

Air Crash Investigaion did an episode on it I beleive.
I think that's the running theory that suicide was the motive. The main wreckage of the actual plane hasn't been found yet though. There's debris and stuff but the bulk of it is still gone.

Depending on how fast he steered it into the ocean, there wouldn't be big chunks to find. The aircraft crashes on land that have big chunks are where the pilots were doing what they could to slow and minimize the damage. A suicide run is not going to repeat "Miracle on the Hudson".

This is the remains of a private jet that didn't even get off the ground before crashing in a gully. A jumbo jet aimed at the water at full speed, which is apparently 924-945 km/hr, is the same as hitting solid concrete. It's going to shatter into pieces. And in the Indian Ocean? Yeah, finding ANY debris is amazing.

Right, I get that. I guess I was hoping for more like what happened with TWA 800 that blew up over the Atlantic from a bomb and large midsections of the fuselage were still recovered. Korean Air 007 blew up via missile and only small bits of wreckage were found from the ocean so most of the airplane disintegrating into flaming carbon and metal seems to be the likely result.

I mean, regardless of whether or not there is any debris to find, the fact that we haven't found it and likely never will means it remains an unsolved mystery, and likely will never be solved. The leading theory is plausible (I even believe it myself), but its still just a theory, not proven.

It was mentioned back in post #103 but the Burger Chef Murders has gotten my attention lately and it's still unsolved.

1978
Speedway Indiana
4 victims

Robbers parked their car on 15th street and walked to the Burger Chef, that way they could get money and run, dodge through the houses
to the south and their car would never been seen at the restaurant.
Went in to rob it but the employees gave them trouble.
Couldn't shoot them there because the buildings are pretty close together (closer than they look on maps. Sound would carry) and it would have been heard, so they all got in Jayne's '74 Chevy Vega and drove a couple blocks to where the other vehicle was parked, then took that car to a rural area.
They all walk a ways into the woods and two of the four employees are shot, 3 times each.
A 38 revolver only holds 6 bullets so the shooter would have to reload. The two employees that were still alive think fuck this and take off running in opposite directions.
Jayne is caught and stabbed, Mark is caught and beaten to death, maybe with brass knuckles or someting similar.
The robbers leave and go about their business.
The bodies are found a couple days later.

Edit
Here's a link to Crime Junkies 4 episode show "Red Ball" about the case.

EDIT 2
Lamont At Large on yt stands in the parking lot of the old Burger Chef building and gives a pretty good overview of what happened.

The Murder Sheet youtube channel has some episodes about it that go into more detail and have interviews and a view of the woods where the bodies were found.
