This is the documentary in question: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt21025436/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_in_0_q_speedway%20mI am not aware of this specific documentary, but this trend has really exploded in the last 3-4 years in the 'True Crime' scene. It's fucking cancer and one reason (among several) that I almost totally stopped reading any of these sites anymore.
My thought on what this is is that the YT true crime scene views these crimes like they do a TV show or movie - almost like fictional characters - that the murder victims are sort of like victims in horror movies - they probably did some bad things in their lives so maybe in a sense they deserved to die. They are in it to be entertained, not to solve mysteries and get justice (my motivation in following these before).
Imagine dying brutally, they made a documentary about it and as well as detectives or pathologists talking about the case they wheeled out a podcaster, blogger or youtuber. Very grim.
You are right about the extreme decline in quality with true crime now, its a normy slop gold rush so they are pumping out shit to cater to the ever growing cat mom demographic.
Normally Id be very happy about the amount of money being thrown at documentaries but the quality just isnt there. Its all very cynical and shallow.
Somehow feels like reddits fault.
