Ever seen Forensic Files?

Almost every single episode ends on some sort of unresolved issue about most of the cases at hand, and it always left a chill with me.

One guy's murderer was caught for example, but all they ever found of the victim was his hands. And... no one ever found anything else ever again.
It's why I loved watching it. Really makes you wonder.

As for something not so grizzly, there's the Voynich Manuscript.

Voynich_Manuscript_(32).jpg

It's a book so mysterious, it's named for a man who bought it in 1912, despite being carbon dated back to the 1400s. The text inside is written in a completely unknown, undeciphered language, and there are plenty of illustrations that give you an idea as to what it could be, but nobody truly knows what it is. The Wikipedia article is pretty comprehensive on the details about how it's been mulled over throughout the ages by cryptographers and historians worldwide.

You can see scans of the entire thing here: https://archive.org/details/voynich

The Yuba County Five: Five men, four of them mentally-disabled, and one of them mentally-disturbed, went missing on the night of February 24th, 1978, after attending a college basketball game. Several days later, their car was found abandoned in a remote part of the Plumas National Forest, far out of the way from the location the men had been beforehand. Investigators to this day can't find an explanation for why the car was abandoned as it could've easily been pushed from the snowdrifts and was in good working order, or how it ended up in such a remote area in the first place.

Months later, in June 1978, one of the five men's' bodies was found in a trailer nineteen miles away from the car. It was the body of Theodore "Ted" Weiher, it appeared that he survived for as long as three months after the men were last seen.

The most bizarre thing is that all the supplies in the trailer such as food, water, and heating materials were completely untouched, meaning that Weiher had intentionally starved, and frozen himself to death for seemingly no reason. His body was also found wrapped in eight sheets, including around his head. His frostbitten feet were nearly gangrenous, and his shoes were missing.

The bodies of Jack Madruga and Bill Sterling were found eleven miles from the car on opposite sides of the road. The bodies had been partially devoured and scattered by scavengers and autopsies showed that both had died of hypothermia. Two days later, the backbone belonging to Jack Huett was found by his father just two miles north of the trailer Weiher was found in, and his skull was later found downhill just 300ft away.

The only trace of the last member of the group, Gary Mathias, were his shoes that were found not too far out in the nearby woods by the trailer. Forest service blankets and a rusted flashlight were found in an area northwest of the trailer, but it could not be confirmed how long they'd been there, or if any of the group including Mathias used them.

A key thing to mention is Gary Mathias suffered from diagnosed Paranoid Schizophrenia and had frequent psychotic episodes. His body is the only one still not accounted for, and over forty years later, no one has been able to find him, nor figure out what happened to the men that fateful snowy night.

Edit: Added and corrected some details and major mistakes. Sorry!

Have you seen Scarface? If yes, do you remember that scene, where Tony falls into trap and some thugs kill his friend with chainsaw? Do you remember how his other friend is flirting with some chick at this exact moment? Well, this chick is Tammy Lynn Leppert and after couple of weeks she will disappear under very mysterious circumstances. She was beauty queen and could have a bright future in the Hollywood, but something happened - after the shooting of the film Spring Break was finished, she went unaccompanied to a weekend party. She came home from the party "a different person" according to her close friend Wing Flannagan's testimony. She seemed paranoid, like somebody wanted her dead, she even refused to drink water, if bottle wasn't sealed. When she was playing in her next film, Scarface, she suddenly returned home after the fourth day of filming. Her mother assumed that Tammy had been afraid of being murdered by someone, and that she had become overtaken by this delusion. Her mother felt obliged to have her examined by a doctor, but after 72 hours in a medical center, Tammy was released and there seemed to be no signs of drug or alcohol use according to doctor statements. After that she had an argument wit her friend, who she begged to run with her and start a new life, which he of course refused. After that she left his car and was never seen again. Case is still cold after 36 years.

Isdal woman, likely a Cold War spy, died via self immolation

Annadale Jane Doe. Woman who committed suicide in the baby section of a cemetery via a bag over her head and pills. She brought a small Christmas tree. When they removed the plastic bag over her head they realized she had headphones on and was listening to Carl Reiner’s 5000 year old man and Monty Python‘s Holy Grail. She left a poem. She also left envelopes with cash and instructions to please cremate her body. She was well dressed, wore gold jewelry, etc... She’s never been identified.

This is so sad. Did anyone check to see if she had ever given birth in her lifetime, and check the DNA of all the children buried in that area?

sounds a bit like the Dyatlov Pass incident

Who the is going to pay to dig up an entire baby graveyard to individually check their DNA? I mean that’s hundreds of graves, not to mention you need permission to do that from the family of each and every grave’s living family. It would cause an unholy uproar and terrible grief to way to many families to undertake for very murky reasons. There’s no way to know if she had any association to this area. She was not recognized as a local resident. She obviously didn’t want her identity known so going to a town and cemetery she had no association with would make sense.

The best bet is using the dead woman’s DNA and forensic ancestry dna databases.

There was a scar on the woman’s abdomen that could have been a c-section scar. But she also had a child’s well worn Minney Mouse fanny pack in her knapsack. The age of the fanny pack was within the last decade of her death and since she was estimated to be in her 60’s the pack may have belonged to a grandchild or some other young child she was close to in recent years. Hard to say but it was a mysterious item.

Death of Gareth Williams. He was a codebreaker for MI6, but when he wanted to quit, he suddenly disappeared. He was found dead in his apartment inside a sports bag, that had a lock outside. Police found, that Gareth visited BDSM websites and probably locked himself inside for sexual pleasure, but suffocated in the result. The problem is that he wasn't interested in this kind of bondage, but what's more crucial, padlock, ziplock and the rim of the bath had no fingerprints, be it his or someone else's. Also, people tried to replicate this 300 times with no success. After police has reopened investigation, the narrative has appeared that he was killed by Russian spies, but I call bullshit. That's a very messy job for someone, who managed to kill him without any trace.

The Gilco Morinaga case. It started with two kidnappers taking then president of Glico, Katsuhisa Ezaki. Despite initially offering money, they refused until they had him held at a warehouse, and then demanded 1 billion yen and 100 kilos of gold bullion. Ezaki however, managed to escape, but it was only the beginning of a relentless campaign of terror by the twarted kidnappers.

Over the course of months, evading capture throughout, they:

> Set cars on fire in the parking lot of Ezaki's Gilco location.

> Sent letters under the name The Monster with 21 Faces, mocking the police's investigation efforts.

> Claimed to have placed bottles of soda and candies in stores laced with potassium cyanide, resulting in severe financial losses for Gilco as they choose to recall all their products.

Despite numerous attempts at capturing the "Fox eyed man", as other companies attempted to pay The Monster with 21 Faces to have him/them stop harassing them, police failed each and every attempt, which culminated in the then Police Superintendent commiting suicide via self immolation, out of shame for failing to capture the perpetrator for over a year.

It was only after this event that The Monster with 21 Faces sent his final message, claiming he/they will no longer harass Gilco, as "...we have more to do other then bullying companies", their final parting words simply being "It's fun to lead a bad man's life."

The case, to this day, has never been solved, and the statue of limitations has ran out for all the cases, meaning the perpetrator could at any point come forward and confess with no consequences.

Years ago I listened to this podcast from Binnall of America where he interviewed a Kendall Carver who runs the site, International Cruise Victims. It paints a horrifying look into how many people go missing on cruise ships and the amount of crime on them, its staggering and I will never set foot on a cruise ship 😬 Its also super interesting and a very deep rabbit hole to go into.

Disappearance of Rebecca Coriam

Article - The dark side of cruises

I've watched so much shit about cruise ship mysteries that I'm beginning to think sex trafficking cartels have inside men in positions of power within companies like Carnival and Disney.

Alright, now send them 'tism ratings my way.

Hm, I've heard something similar, but in much smaller scale.

The Tylenol murders an unknown person would go in to stores buy tylenol replace a few pills with poison, then put the tampered bottled back on the store shelve. It is the reason why most food and drugs have anti temper measures, and why tampering with food/drugs is now a federal crime. I was surprised it was never brought up in media a few years back when licking ice cream and putting it back on the shelves was for some reason a thing.

Shared this in another thread a while back:

The case of Joshua Maddux really creeps me out. Missing teen's body is found inside the chimney of an abandoned cabin wearing nothing but a shirt. The chimney was blocked from both ends, making it seemingly impossible to get inside.
