Creepy Unsolved Mysteries - From unsolved murders to unidentified people to unexplained supernatural events, what are some of the creepiest unsolved mysteries you've ever heard of?

Not one single mystery (at least on the surface), but the disappearances covered in the Missing 411 series of books and films really fascinates me. Every case involved has circumstances that make them stand out from other disappearances. The person is there one moment, then gone the next. They all have happened in either national parks or forests. The area they disappear in usually is close to granite, often in or near granite bolder fields. Search and rescue dogs are unable to track them. Clothing is often found removed, or if the person/body is found their clothing is on wrong or inside-out. If a body is found it's often far away from the point of disappearance and in an area not easily accessible. If a body is found the cause of death cannot be determined. Sudden weather usually follows the disappearance, often counter to projected forecasts. If the person is found alive they can't remember what happened to them or what they did while they were missing. And if their body is found it's often in an area that has been previously and thoroughly searched before, as if placed there to be found.

Probably just glow-in-the-dark/military shit. People seeing stuff they shouldn't and government agencies doing what they have to in order to ensure secrecy.

The story around this image is weird, though. Can't remember everything, but some dude and his daughter in a Crown vic matching the image disappeared without a trace and the vehicle burned. This image surfaced shortly after.

It's actually from a movie but I still don't like it.

Burger Chef murders:

The unnecessary complication of abducting, then relocating 4 employees is what makes this one creepy. Whoever was behind the murders was particularly brutal, too. Frustratingly, the restaurant was cleaned by the next work shift, potentially sabotaging the scene.

The Yogurt Shop murders is kind of similar. Four people are murdered, but instead of being relocated, the yogurt shop is set ablaze. To me, the creepiest part is how one of the bodies was positioned, implying the victim was singled out or attempted to resist, either her attackers or death itself.

This is so sad. Did anyone check to see if she had ever given birth in her lifetime, and check the DNA of all the children buried in that area?

Probably wouldn't have turned up anything. Very little talked about for obvious reasons, but Mother's Day is one of the days of the year with the highest number of suicides. Several different demographics account for these but the largest group?

Women who never had children.

Various "green men" from churches abbeys and cathedrals from around the UK (though they appear throughout Europe), archaeologists suggest they're a symbol of rebirth, Though there's no concrete proof of that. The term green man was only coined in 1939 we don't even know what they were called prior to that.

There's something unsettling about them, and the fact that despite their abundance and prominence we know so little.

hey guys, not sure if its appropriate to post here but what are some youtubers/podcasters that you would recommend that cover unsolved cases? would love to hear it in the background while multitasking. TIA

Casefile Podcast, it’s Australian so many cases covered are from there but he does other international cases too, not all are unsolved but still really good.

The disappearance of Tara Calico has always creeped me out, particularly the polaroids of her and the little boy tied up in the back of a van that surfaced but never amounted to anything.

That isn’t Tara Calico.

Tara Calico was murdered the day she disappeared within a few miles of her house. The most likely account is that a group of local boys began to harass her while she was off on her bike ride. They eventually ran her off the road and abducted, raped, and killed her.

The local cops know who was involved, the main perp being the son of the then-sheriff Lawrence Romero Sr.; the son Larry Jr. later died while playing Russian Roulette.

The photo, IMO, is a prank. The kids arms aren’t bound, merely crossed behind their backs. Their feet and ankles aren’t in the shot either so there’s no proof they were bound beyond the tape across the mouth. The photo is disturbing, but not proof of an abduction.

The boy who was thought to be the other victim in the photo, Michael Henley, went missing while on a hiking trip with his family. His remains were later found in that same area about a year later, cause of death was hypothermia.

Deleted post because late - sorry!

The Dutroux affair is something I found interesting. Not because it's unsolved. But the kidnapper, murderer and rapist openly told the court and journalists in interviews he was simply a "delivery person" for the pedophile network. Victims confirmed and corroborated his claims. With evidence that solved two kidnappings and murders. And despite this massive admission. No further investigations were launched.

Pizza. Gate.

That's why it never went anywhere.

If anyone want to read about a case that has a certain glow about it, try Charles Rogers. Rogers was a WWII vet and pilot with a degree in nuclear physics. While in the service he worked Naval Intelligence. After the war he took a job as a seismologist for Big Oil in his home state of Texas.

However in 1965 at age 43, Charlie was still living at home with his elderly parents and was unemployed. He was a recluse who would only communicate by pushing notes under his bedroom door.

In June of ‘65 after a relative called for a wellness check on the Rogers family, police entered the house. Inside the fridge were a dozen parcels of wrapped and butchered meat along with the heads of Fred & Edwina Rogers, Charles’s parents. Autopsies showed they were most likely murdered on June 20th, Fathers Day.

Charles was never seen again.

Another from the never seen again files...

In November of 1958 Tom Pendergast picked up a 16 year old hitchhiker on his way home from work, a kid named Carl Eder. Pendergast and his family welcomed Eder into their home and he lived with them for several weeks.

On Dec 12th that same year Eder murdered Lois Pendergast and her four young children while dad Tom was at work. He even waited for the two older boys to return home from school so he could kill them too. Eder was arrested, tried, and found guilty on all counts.

But for some reason (California) he was placed in a minimum security prison which he simply walked out of 16 years later. There were allegedly sightings of him in the Berkeley area in the late 70s but that’s it. Carl Eder effectively disappeared and has never been found.

Gas station abductions, especially late at night when people are alone, are always very scary to read about. Kelly Bergh Dove was working one of her sister's shifts (they all had the same job) when she called the police thrice to report an obscene caller/suspicious customer; she disappeared minutes before help arrived. What's even more frightening was that while obscene calls were common when women were working there alone, they stopped save for one after she disappeared. I wonder if the kidnapper was originally targeting the sister(s) and then took her?

I'm still reading through this thread so there might be some repeats, but here are some of my picks.

Taxicab Phone Discovery: In 2014, a student got into a Fijian taxicab and found an unclaimed cellphone in the backseat. In an effort to find the phone’s owner, the student thumbed through the device’s photos. Instead, he found a 10-minute video of four people clinging to ship wreckage in the middle of the ocean. The video shows the victims raising their arms for help only to be struck by multiple rounds of gunshots. Someone in the background of the video repeatedly yelled in Mandarin over a loudspeaker (people speaking Indonesian and Vietnamese are also heard). Police got involved immediately after the video was posted and contacted Interpol for help identifying both the victims and the assailants. However, because the video was such poor quality, no faces were identifiable. Because of the poor quality of the video, and because it happened in international waters, it's likely this case will never be solved.

To me, the creepiest part (aside from the actual on-screen murders) is that at the end of the video the murderers all smile and laugh and pose for selfies. They just murdered four people in cold blood and they're laughing about it. It's chilling.

The Circleville Letters: In 1977, a school bus driver named Mary Gillispie started receiving anonymous, angry letters in the mail. Someone had found out about her affair with the school superintendent and wanted her to call it off. Later, her husband Ron received a letter of his own, and after a few weeks trying to ignore the threats, he told his children he was taking his gun to confront the letter writer and promptly drove his truck into a tree. He was killed instantly. Years later, the letters began arriving again, though Mary had remarried the superintendent and had nothing left to hide.

Su Taraskiewicz: Su Taraskiewicz was a trailblazer. In 1992, Su was not only the first woman to work as a ramp supervisor at Logan International Airport, she also filed reports of the rampant sexual harassment she encountered on the job. Su was a standup worker, who refused to become involved in a credit card theft ring amongst airport employees. Susan was last seen at 1:00 A.M. on September 13, 1992. She didn’t return from getting a midshift meal–and co-workers punched her timecard in and out anyway. Due to return for another shift the next evening, she didn’t show again. And once again, her co-workers punched her timecard. Her body was found inside the trunk of her car on September 14, having been beaten and stabbed to death. It is suspected that either one of her co-workers involved in the credit card ring or an ex-boyfriend was responsible for her killing, but the case went cold about a year after her death.

Abigail Williams and Liberty German: On February 13, 2017, Abigail Williams and Liberty German were dropped off by Liberty’s older sister at an abandoned railway near a hiking path in Delphi, Indiana. The two girls promised to meet with a family member near a bridge later on that day, but the duo never showed up. At first the police didn’t expect any foul play, but the girls’ bodies were found the next day about half a mile away from the bridge. The only lead investigators had were Snapchat uploads of the girls walking along the railroad, and an unidentified man approaching them. The last thing that remains from their encounter is a chilling audio clip of the man saying, “Down the hill.”

This case has been mentioned before in this thread but it's worth reiterating because it's so disturbing. I can't imagine how scared those poor girls must have been when that man approached them. The fact that it's been three years and no justice has been found is depressing.

I have more cases but I'll stop here for now.

Number Stations have always fascinated me. The primary theory is that they're a Cold War era spy broadcasting signal, but no concrete proof has ever really been found. The fact they still run so regularly to this day is amazing.

I could go on for hours about Number Stations, but there's plenty out there that goes over the subject much better than I can. It's an interesting rabbit hole to say the least.

UVB-76, Swedish Rasphody, Lincolnshire Poacher are good places to start, they're the more notorious of the Number Stations.

That's fucked up. That happened around the time of the Speedway bombings. That one isn't unsolved, though. Lolcow Brett Kimberlin was responsible for that but, presumably, not guilty of the Burger Chef murders, although he was a suspect for a time.

The Alcasser's girls, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcàsser_Girls. In 1992 three girls hitchhiked on a random to go to a party. They were raped and murdered, I remind you that hitchhiking was normal until this. The three girls were recorded on video, supposedly, on a pedophile snuff ritual. Is like our pizzagate. I think that they weren't murdered by their capturers but from these psychopaths that we call politicians.
Another one is the death of the little brother of our ex king, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infante_Alfonso_of_Spain. It isn't clear why he pulled the trigger, mass media tell that it was by accident. However, there is a theory that Alfonso was the chosen one to rule Spain, his father wanted him to become king instead of Juan Carlos, but General Franco was in a feud with him so he ordered Juan Carlos to kill his brother.

Slight aside but I have such a hard time looking at videos about missing people where the YouTuber slaps their face on the thumbnail. I know it's an autistic thing to be annoyed by and I'll gladly take my puzzle pieces, but it just pisses me off more than it really should.

No. You should be annoyed by it.

I absolutely cannot stand this shit. I fucking hate it. It is incredibly disrespectful and just reeks of narcissism. It just screams "Yeah, this person is missing, but what about ME!"

What makes it even worse is that most of the comments on these videos are people praising the Youtubers and not talking about victims of these crimes or what might've happened to them.
