Getting an entry in the DSM means that real, accredited psychologists/psychiatrists/psychotherapists have come to an agreement that something is legit. It is what professionals in the field use to codify what IS real.
Case in point: The Wrongskin bowel"movement" hasn't convined actual real accredited psychologists/psychiatrists/psychotherapists that "being Wrongskin" is a real disorder, so it doesn't get put into the DSM.
