Crusader Kings 3 - Its Crusader Kings 2 with a paint job

It's a shame they haven't bothered to introduce a population system like viccy 2. Having that instead of just a single number for development would've been much better. Thankfully there's someone who wanted to overhaul HIP from ck2 into a bigger mod called AVE MARIA, having more systems and population, which he already setup in an alpha build but moved to ck3 after seeing it's potential.
Hopefully this mod will fix these problems, the creator had a few dev diaries showing what he wanted to do in ck2 and what he will port to ck3 and it looks promising, dm me if you wanna join the discord for updates

So Ave Maria will be the MEIOU and Taxes of CK2?

CK3 passes the playability test for me, so it’s a win and I will spend all the money on it.

Paradox Games I Can Play: CK2, CK3, Stellaris, EU4
Games I Kind Of Understand: HOI4, HOI3, Vicky2, EU3
Games I Am Surely Retarded At: Imperator, Sengoku

I enjoy CK3 more than CK2, but I only just got into both of them a few months ago. I can appreciate that Paradox is actually patching more shit in (like Character Creator, though they really need to work in the dynasty crest editor) rather than milking it dry so far. Admittedly, still terrible at the game, but it’s fun as shit to do things right until you bonk up, typically by the second generation. It’s seriously more easy to end up with a dozen descendants in this game than in 2, even without concubines or lovers.

RNG is crazy. Rolled the same start in Ireland 867 three times just to see how wild it can get; first time managed to unite the Kingdom by conquest, proceed into Wales before getting curbstomped by Cornwall allied with fucking France, then invaded by Jorvik, Alba, and Sudreyar, before dying in battle and splitting up my lands. 2nd time, conquered both Munster and Leinster before getting invaded by Sudreyar. 3rd time, didn’t even get as far as Munster before Meath, Sudreyar, and a random Viking declared war on me. Great times.

I’ve only ever managed as far as 3 generations before shit goes completely off the rails.
Decided it would be fun to do a random Viking settlement in Africa, on the southern coast. Got pretty far before literally every consolidated power around me said “fuck you” and steamrolled me.

So the first Dev Diary since November was posted today; https://www.crusaderkings.com/en/news/dev-diary-48-the-team
Highly anticipated, many were hoping it would be at least a small hint of what the first small dlc is going to be. Not even close, it’s just a vague list of the team, only noteworthy change is that the lead dev for Holy Fury is now the lead dev for CK3.
People are pissed, and the damage control is hilarious.

lol pozed game.

So decided to finally give this game a whirl. I went through the tutorial and I'm a bit confused. Is this game just fabricate claim, take over smaller region, repeat?

That and assassinations until you or your kid inherits what you want.

If you play a tribal government you can skip past fabricating a claim and just invade.

I'll keep giving it a go but if that's all there is to this game beyond a few scenario prompts (and it feels like I've already seen the bulk of them ) then I'm a little disappointed.

I feel like the best part of crusader kings is multiplayer. It’s the only paradox game I actually like playing with other people. There’s just no satisfaction in seducing an AIs wife.

Best way to go into a CK3 game is with a goal and a plan. Build yourself around achieving a certain decision, developing certain lands or creating an empire. Think of the game cycle as "invest in land > invest in army > expand > repeat"
