4 dead after a shootout involving the Cuban coast guard and a speedboat registered in Florida.

Details are scarce. Cuba says the incident happened inside their territorial waters and the American boat fired first.

Regardless, I think it is safe to assume that this was someone from Florida trying to get their relatives out. Does anyone know if Cuban authorities typically try to stop escapes, or rather if they typically go this far to do so?

and here is the pretext that was needed for the US to invade Cuba and engage in "regime change".

No, they definitely do not.

This smacks of having intel on a drug boat that they wanted (or did not pay off the right guys), someone of value "escaping," or some machismo naval dick-wagging that escalated.

Why is it safe to assume? You don’t think there’s smuggling operations in and out of Cuba? Regardless, you sail that close to Cuba you deserve what’s coming to you.

.....cuba has an embassy in the us?

something something innocent fishermen and civilians something something grave injustice something something unconstitutional.

where's all the leftist whining seconds after? and shock of shocks, not a WORD from representative thomas massie about this, despite his insistence that the US blowing up narco smugglers was horrifying and illegal. same for senator rand paul. they are both deafeningly silent when it's americans being killed. what a strange way to behave as american government representatives... to be more angry at foreigners being killed than americans.

oh, but he's got plenty of time to talk about how the epstein files are not a hoax, a thing which literally no one has ever said.

If we do go through with going after Cuba, I guarantee in 50 years it will come out that it was a bunch of deep cover US operatives on that speed boat.
I would not particularly care, tolerating the existence of Cuba has been a mistake and removing it would be in line with current US foreign politics goals.

If it was Cuba killing people trying to smuggle people out to the US - good on'em.

If it was Cuba just blasting an American vessel (why would it be out there?) I don't think this will end well. I'm reminded of all the attempts on Castro that further cemented his power.

Also Marco just clarified it wasn't a gov't boat or had gov't personnel. Suuurrreeee buddy.

I hope this won't be a puppet state setup like with Venezuela, even if there it was perhaps pragmatically the easiest way to do it. Hopefully not as eliminating a Marxist-Leninist dictatorship within a few miles of the US should be the goal. It is a desperately poor place and the US was there before.

This could be the USS Maine incident mark II.
