Regardless, I think it is safe to assume that this was someone from Florida trying to get their relatives out. Does anyone know if Cuban authorities typically try to stop escapes, or rather if they typically go this far to do so?4 dead after a shootout involving the Cuban coast guard and a speedboat registered in Florida.
Details are scarce. Cuba says the incident happened inside their territorial waters and fired first.

Because I doubt a drug smuggler would use a boat registered in Miami. Why is it safe to assume? You don’t think there’s smuggling operations in and out of Cuba? Regardless, you sail that close to Cuba you deserve what’s coming to you.
I'd put money on this if Polymarket weren't banned here (and I weren't broke).machismo naval dick-wagging that escalated.
Can't wait until my buddy is stop lose'ed and learns he needs to die in Cuban or Iranian soiland here is the pretext that was needed for the US to invade Cuba and engage in "regime change".

If it's registered in Miami it's most likely a boomer who tried to extract a family member. They're probably in Miami and they're far more likely to open fire on the government when outnumbered than a drug smuggler.Registry means almost nothing. Could have been stolen for all we know.

I would not particularly care, tolerating the existence of Cuba has been a mistake and removing it would be in line with current US foreign politics goals. If we do go through with going after Cuba, I guarantee in 50 years it will come out that it was a bunch of deep cover US operatives on that speed boat.
This could be the USS Maine incident mark II.4 dead after a shootout involving the Cuban coast guard and a speedboat registered in Florida.
