Cultural pride is exceptional and an overcompensation for weakness.

It can be exceptional. Anywhere now a dump will have nationals in 'we wuz kangs' mode. But no pride suggests something similar. Middling patriotism tinged with a bit of scepticism is best, but sort of hard to do.

Hmmmm..... which would I rather do? Have some pride in what my ancestors built and use that as part of my motivation to be a better person and do what I can to leave things better for future generations? Or be a rootless coom and consoom bugman?

I feel the long rusted gears of my teenage fedoralord phase trying to churn.

There's a difference between being proud of what you have done and your ancestor's work in creating the world for you to do it in and being arrogant. Just like there's a difference between having a lazy day and being full-on Slothful.

Really, any of the seven deadly sins are destructive when taken too far, or in a bad direction, but taking any of them entirely out of life can leave you barren. Imagine a life with no lust, with no ability to slow down and relax for a minute, no drive to accomplish or gain anything for your efforts. Righteous anger is different from directionless wrath, and a desire to be satisfied is different from being gluttonous.
So why the dichotomy between sin and virtue? Even virtues become sins when taken to extremes so what really separates them if sins can also be virtuous under the right circumstances? Is sin and virtue just the western Abrahamic interpretation of the yin and yang concept?

Cultural pride is normal, it can become overused to the point of retardation but that's true for lots of normal concepts. Deep-thunking it, as long as your ancestors weren't an active drain on society then it's legitimate to argue they attributed to society's achievements. For every leader and scientist there is a huge amount of people working to support them.

Cultural pride is earnt not presumed, if you interact with your community and culture as well as contributing in a meaningful context you are a worthy inherator and can feel proud.

Posting about 'the west' and how much you hate the brown people on pol doesnt cut it.

I can't understand not having a bit of cultural, racial, or religious pride. The culture your grow up in and are a part of is the foundation for your thoughts and world views. Doesn't mean you have to like everything about it or go around dick waving, but not looking back at history and admiring the good things done makes trying for any pride or good change in the future baseless.

There's also a difference between pride and arrogance. I can feel pride in my culture and respect someone of a different culture who does the same. It's pretty ridiculous to feel superior to someone for things out of their control.

By the logic that you can only be proud of your personal achievements & nothing else, you're also not allowed to be proud of a successful friend or sibling. That's very emotionally immature.

There's a very bizarre assumption nowadays that you can't be proud of yourself while also being proud of your ancestors/relatives, as if those two are mutually exclusive, and you didn't come from anything but yourself. Many of the "self made men" of the past were very ethnocentric and family-oriented people.

I can understand ethnic pride, but I don't understand why "representation matters." You'd think people would at least be proud enough not to have their cultures reduced to commodities to be sold.

it's usually just that people like seeing people like themselves, even if they do not require it exclusively.

If it's your own family then i can understand it. What i find completely retarded are the /pol/fags or BLM idiots that are the living embodiment of the "my ancestors : )" and "we wuz kangs" memes.
