This bit would unironically be used to push a "IT'S MORE ACCURATE TO THE SOURCE, YOU'RE JUST A BIGOT!!!" lie some people use to defend a lot of changes to story adaptations or re-releases of games with weird script changes the last year or 2. Like yeah, there IS a part of the story where they drink from some river and get pregnant and have to un-pregnant themselves which sounds insane on it's own (and is that's why the funny) but none of the other stuff is accurate and s blatant corpotroon revsionism.

Dunno why they would even hire SBI for a game they had already decided would be set in Africa - what more DEI can they put in? If they had put that money toward more advertising instead of SBI they might have actually sold a few more copies, even if it is just a generic metroidvania.

Just make your African metroidvania, write some compelling-ish character beats, use some African stories as a background for the story, throw in some hot black chicks and tribe chads in for eye candy. Spend the money that money on advertising and working with youtubers while distancing yourself from any DEI trashfire as much as you can and just state that you want to tell this African story in a metroidvania because those two things mean so much to you.
Even without running the "basedblack" script they could've ridden into the sunset on the goodwill of people as the semi-based-adjacent blacks who just want to create something fun that tells a story about their people. Literally no one would have had anything bad to say without looking like an absolute raving lunatic shouting racisms at some black people doing a game set in Africa.

Anyway, way back in 2019, I had heard about an indie game in development called Street Uni X.


It was inspired by Tony Hawk Pro Skater and extreme sports game in that nature, particularly from the PS1 era. Now remember, at the time (and currently as well lol) the Tony Hawk games were effectively dead, so I was interested in smaller developers attempts at it. Really I'm interested in most indie games that aren't yet another 2D platformer or Metroidvania. They also had a Kickstarter campaign. Now, I wouldn't be caught dead donating to a Kickstarter in the year of our lord 2019, but I was rooting for them to do well. But unfortunately they didn't meet their goal. I thought this meant the game wasn't meant to be and effectively took it out of my mind.

Fast forward to 2024 and it turns out that the game did end up being released just a few weeks ago. I went to check out the trailer and you'll see my problem.


Now, I suppose I should've seen this coming. Even in their Kickstarter, they talked in a very removed sort of way and only an associate was shown as the "face" of the project. It's possible the developer was already trooning out or thinking about it, but they were at least smart enough to not shove it all over their game and marketing. As such I have decided to abstain from supporting this game until further notice.

I'd suggest the THPS remake (the newest one, ironically from about a year after this initial Kickstarter failed), since it's less money on Steam (and about 3 years later than all other versions) than SUX but that has always online which is super gay and lame. There's a command line to fix it but I can't in good conscious support that kind of decision even if there is a work around.
Playing it on a Steam Deck automatically fixes it just to show you how trivial it is for the devs to turn that shit off.

that's the problem, it wasn't black people. the idea guy might have been, the rest were pasty white soibois and white diversity hires. for all their virtue-signaling they're simply not "allowed" to write a story about black people, that has to come from other black people for their genetic experience or whatever. biggest irony the story is apparently about a dude saving/looking for his father, something a certain demographic surely has more first-hand knowledge of...

also don't underestimate the idiocy of "antis". people now are so overly sensitive of anything that looks remotely woke they don't need much to whip themselves into a frenzy. otoh I can't blame them, if things hadn't been pushed this far we'd never be in this shit, they're merely reacting to it. intolerance is the inevitable consequence of overexposure.

Tbh I now often react suspiciously to things that I wouldn't have reacted to at all ten years ago, even some things I generally agree with, not because the opinion is necessarily bad itself, but because it now almost always comes with a grab bag of utterly insane bullshit attached. I also used to be very careful not to say anything that could be remotely interpreted as racist and now I couldn't give a shit less.

I mean I'm not going to go around irl calling randos niggerfaggots like I might here, but I'm not going to mince words if something I think is "politically incorrect" according to some zoomer cunt who wasn't a load in his mom's asshole when I formed my opinions which I try to base on actual facts.
 
Game Informer shut down after 33 years, and I really think most of the old editors and journalists from the heyday of the magazine really couldn’t deal with Culture War propaganda that was effecting their love for wanting to talk about their video games from the 90’s and 00’s.

Either that, or they ended up turning into those people based off of peer pressure from the new ones entering into the field. Overall, I’m mixed on it officially ending its long run.

All of this nonsense borne out of people's simple unwillingness to admit to themselves and others that group differences exist. There have always been women who code, there have always been women in tech, there have always been darkies in tech, it's just mainly the domain of chinky and huwite men.

Funny thing is that it's only now that coding and tech are a "cool" industry that these people care, back when it was "lame" no one said a fucking peep. It's really like any other industry that is nearly sex segregated, not by design or some nefarious plan but by what different groups are interested in. These initiatives are going to fail because they're top down policies rather than a natural change over time which are spurred on by "trailblazer" characters who open up interest in a particular field. However it's not going to happen in tech unless you count stinkditch owners as women. Tech is too object oriented, women are interested in people oriented professions.

Journalism as a whole used to be a male dominated industry however much of the industry is now sex segregated by sector, you look at some dry tech publication and it's all men, you look at something people, feelings, or mode publication it's mostly women. To circle back to the point of this thread, look at how gaming journalism changed when the people who wrote about games changed. Those old school reviews and articles that focused on the game were written by men, the new stuff focusing on everything people do surrounding gaming is written mostly by women. Different interests, different ways of viewing the world, different actions and choices.

It was always doomed to fail because it was built on a foundation of nothing. Companies biting the poisoned apple did so for one of four reasons:

1. They were assured this was the path to financial dominance.
2. Similar ideologues infested their hiring department, and now the rot spreads through the organization.
3. The company is run by true believers, so the rot came from the top down.
4. The company did it to try to angle themselves as more socially conscious, only to realize the gravity of their mistake.

You're starting to see different companies react differently now that they've all begun to realize that the poisoned apple was, in fact, poisoned:

Companies in category 1 were generally the first to fuck off. Some did so immediately when they realized that this shit wasn't making money, some correctly realized that there's no point pursuing it if it kills off their customerbase, others staggered the downturn, and a few unfortunates waited until the news broke that the entire fucking thing was based on non-existent data to make their exit, so you've seen some variety here.

Companies in category 2 are the ones getting hit with mass layoffs, since they aren't making nearly enough money to make their overhead. The journosphere bemoans this state of affairs, which is always very heartening to see in action. Ultimately this shit doesn't make money and more often than not a DEI-focused staff is loaded with dead wood. It's why Elon Musk was able to lay off the overpowering majority of Twitter's staff and there was no impact on the site. Sometimes, as was the case for Twitter, outside impetus will be needed to turn things around, but the layoffs are happening in the rest of the industry and will naturally hit these clowns the hardest.

Companies in Category 3 were the ones willingly biting the poisoned apple in the first place, and were the ones blaming everyone but themselves for the failure. Anita, at GDC, basically BLM for DEI's failure in the industry, and others like her will continue to assert that they did nothing wrong, everything right, and actually it would be great if we could take things a step further and bake this shit into CEO benchmarks. They're going to be the ones that never back down, doubling and tripling and quadrupling down, even as their industries bleed. Of course, the biggest proponents of DEI are governments, where they'll be able to bleed the longest and hardest (at your expense, of course).

Companies in Category 4 are the interesting ones. Most of them didn't bite out of desire for dominance, as many of them were already dominant in the industries they're part of, but rather out of an attempt to achieve social acceptability or maintain their cred with other companies, so many of them tried to make this shit work even when it didn't make sense, only to have to cut back things because it became increasingly clear this shit is not working.

It'll be really interesting to see what things look like going forward with all of this. They're just not facing studies, they're faking entire staffers. This is like fucking Onion Future trading - these people aren't just marketing a worldview prevaricated on nothing, lying about the support it has, lying about its upsides, and now lying about the prominent people in it, they're hoping to get out on the short sell in the process..


 
I quite enjoyed this video by American Krogan about how koshner Bioshock is. I would have prefer some critique of how retarded everything else is with that game but that Kotaku article is more informative than political science degree.

Does anybody know what he is up to these days?

Anti-SJW centrists and gamergate nerds would like to make you believe that video game outlets only became liberal and political after 2013, this is from a 2009 issue of Ngamer. I have also seen feminism in a 2008 iussue of ONM. Not only do they imply that right wingers must be silenced but also that anything right wing is stupid and wrong. Granted it is popular to attack right wingers much like it is popular to trash Christianity.
