She may not be looking as good as when Chris was born, but I think this picture was meant to be kind of goofy and lighthearted. Or she's making fun of her son's death grip on his most sacred hero.

"Soon hedgehog. Soon you will be one with the hoard"

I wonder who took it... It must have been shortly after Chris acquired the plushy. Hopefully it is in a better place now

I think Chris took the picture of his mom with the Sonic plush. Barb had been trotting him around the store snapping pics with costumed actors, and little Chris needed to equalize the situation. He still tries to do this, especially in situations where he is wrong.

Barb may not look as great as she did when she first had baby Chris, but she looks way more sane and pleasant in the sonic pic, than she does with the most recent pic of her at Mythbusters.

I think she really should not have retired from her job when she did. She should have held onto it for as long as possible, if only becuase it would have given her an actual schedule, and forced to not be as much of a hoarder as she became.

I just think she would have been much happier without so much time to hoard, and think about unhappy memories or unhappy current situation.

On a different note, could she be hired anywhere if she wanted to apply? I think its possible at least..

Nah she's too old now, except perhaps WalMart, but with the Chandler's track record do you think they'd take her on?

I know I'm talking to someone who's an even bigger sperg than me, but someone who is elderly, sickly, semi-mobile, with scabies, a botfly infestation in her vast arse, has subsisted almost exclusively on q-sands for years, shits herself because of wasting-butt disease, has alienated Coleslaw, the rest of her family and everyone else connected to her, Bob, Jerry Harmon and Ran Coleman Yeatts, is not interested in what happens to Chris-chan or her pets after she dies (probably this year) or in anything but herself, has a felony record and probably smells like a corpse?

Not even McDonald's, Wal-Mart or Goodwill would hire her.

Not even if she cleaned herself up a bit? I think as of now, she has no motivation for work, or doing anything other than being a couch potato..

And I just heard about holes in her bum, not any botflies! I would also think her health problems due to a lack of hygene have cleared themselves up a bit, ever since she began living in a more sanitary environment?

Your probably correct about the corpse smelling thing.... geez.... But do you agree that it was a mistake for her to retire?

Just realized she has 2 purses with her. Unless one is the camera bag.

I think this was from the day Chris won the contest and got to have his shopping spree at the Kay Bee toys in the mall. I only speculate because Barb is in a mall.

Not really. She had the right to do it, but she should have focused her time and energy on helping Chris navigate his adult life instead of shopping for fire hazards.

Even if she did clean herself up and could manage to hold a part-time job, I doubt she would get hired. Yea, it's pretty ageist but I don't think any company, especially a major one that may have to deal with benefits, would want to hire a woman who would probably only work a few short years before (realistically) dying or just be unable to work.

As for a mistake to retire, I honestly can't say. At the time she was probably excited to be done after decades (presumably) of working. It's a pity that she didn't develop a hobby like ceramics or make friends her own age to go out with, but I don't think retiring was really a major issue. If she continued to work I really don't think things would be too, too different.

Two things I noticed about the pic:
1. The hair is super strange. Like it looks like he was trying to give her Sonic quills.
2. The birthdate on the portrait. It's almost morbid. Like the deathdate should come right after or something.

It's probably something like wind was blowing through her hair and it's like that... Maybe.

And her eyes are two different shades of blue. Maybe he wanted to make her like him with the two different colors but didn't want to make her too special or take any attention away from the real talent :P

See the thing is, I think all the hoarding was done to fill up a big hole in Barb's life. Something to do with all the "free time" she suddenly had.

Perhaps she felt lonely, unable to connect with her neighbors, or maybe just want plain old "stuff." Stuff, may have been very hard to come by when she was a young girl, and what little she had was mostly hand me downs from her older siblings.

I just think work and responsibilities are key for anyone's happiness and functioning. It gives one a sense of purpose in life, and just helps one feel good, like one has accomplished something. I know I always feel a bit depressed if I sit around doing nothing. I just think it's human nature to need work and responsibilities of some kind.

Now I see where Chris gets most of his weird looks from.

At least he didn't pay to have Sonichu printed onto edible paper for his mommy's birthday cake every year. I wonder if he paid to have himself printed onto cakes for mommy and daddy, like with the snowglobe he gave to Barb?

I just love pictures of little Chris during the 80s. If you look at them knowing nothing of who he is now, he seems like an entirely different person.

- He is not the least bit fat
- He's always smiling, and in an actual happy way
- He looks like he's in a natural normal surrounding.
- He appears to be Bob and Barb's grandson but is actually their son.
- He doesn't appear to be autistic.

I think the novelty of being four years old has gradually diminished over the last thirty years for him. If he's learned nothing else, he now knows that all that awaits him is more of the same.

Looks like he was at least seven or so here, possibly older, which means he would have been in therapy at the time and learning how NOT to be so autistic all the time. That probably makes a difference.

Let's see... Bob's records (RIP in Paradise), the chair :snorlax: insisted on extracting from the burned hulk of 14BC or one from the same set (literally all of the non- :snorlax: /non-Bob decor, fixtures and furniture can be found in 1968-82 or so Sears, JCPenney, Belk and Montgomery Ward catalogs & vintage ad book pics, so can clothes in old pics of Bob, :snorlax: and :stupid: ) and the beginnings of the hoard.
