Been trying to figure out the clothes as well, I think it was just stuff his mother bought. As for the glasses I guess we could safely say Chris isn't the only person who wore glasses with the string attachment

Urkle never got screen time in the UK so I only know of it tangentially but I get your point. I can see how he ended up with that kind of stuff but how it started is a whole other mater.
At first I think it must have been Barb thinking something like "How do I make him seem special so he doesn't get picked on" but then it just became his standard wardrobe unless something special was happening like school photos, or what have you. In addition to that I think in the TomGirl era it's just been a mix of What can I afford an what is the closest woman I can see an know waring... an with Chris essentially being a Extension of Barbs will he has ended up looking how he is today, as other than Barb he hasn't got any female role models other than Britny spears and seriously would you rather have bag lady Chris or

With the Glasses thing is though I don't think that's the case, with the Glasses String for Chris (I was going to abbreviate that as g-string but that's a mental image I don't want to share) I think at first it was a cost saving measure to stop him from losing them but now they are just a bit of standard equipment in the Chandler household, apart from the one exception (an that's prity rare) you just never see them, OK I don't ware glasses but you just never see them in the Chemists as they seem like a impulse buy for 99p kinda deal

This is my favourite CWC Pic because Chris is 22 here. The glasses-with-string suggest old-age pensioner, the Sonichu medallion suggests small child, but the hairy arms are there to make it clear that this is a grown adult male, faking a smile because his Lego set isn't authentic.
There are lots of theories as to what his facial expression might mean in this pic.

My personal one is that he's trying to look cool and tough because he got a LEGO(-ripoff?) set with an urban hardcore crimefighting theme.

I think we struggle with the right term for it.

Is it weird or unhealthy if an adult son helps his elderly widowed mother with errands and stuff around the house? No.

Is it weird or unhealthy for a mother to support her son in various ways, particularly if her son has a mental disorder? No.

Is Chris' relationship with Barb weird and unhealthy? Yes.

So there is something more to it. For lack of a better term, we use the word incest, although there is nothing sexual involved. I think it boils down to
a) they are both lonely people who don't really have anyone else.
b) the fact that they both have diminished capabilities, for various reasons.
c) they both seem to think the other one desperately needs them.

Oh undoubtedly there relationship is unhealthy, just not in the way a lot of people (mostly weens imagine it), as I have said before they remind me of a lot of long term prisoners who spend time in solitary or internment camps behave, they support one another not out of real love but a sense of "At least we are in this together" Even when Chris had regular social contact he wasnt a great with words, for a long time now his only regular non barb communications have been:

"Large Big Mac an Coke"

Or similar, the only regular interpersonal contact he has with another human is with his Mum, some one he already has a lot of time conversing with, so developing a short hand communication is inevitable I am not saying that they have done the thing some twins do developing a private language, but they have started or are adopting (unconsciously) a pidgeion form of English we can understand each word but not the context in how it's used and it's not always physical either body language has a bit to play but with Chris's tisim I doubt it's a major factor, an would be more tone based.

I know I'm a bit late- but this is the first time I've seen this... Do they do this on a regular basis? Is there an incestuous affair???
Apparently he used to do it for a long time. IIRC it seems to have started with mere 'watching a movie together and falling asleep' and eventually escalated to a point where Barb insisted on Chris sleeping in her bed spooning with her for quite some time...

You might wanna use the search function to look for posts by Marvin concerning this topic to get more infos.

Yes they've been known to do that.
This was quite a normal occurrence before the fire.
Just do a forum search for spooning and you will find the appropriate post by either Marvin or skyraider

The term is emotional incest.

I can understand the "classic chris" look, after all she grew in the 80's and 90's, those clothes were fashionable back then. Also consider that Barb shopped at goodwill for her clothes, she also probably grew up in the 60's and 70's, if she was dressing him she probably had a terrible fashion sense from those eras.

The rugby shirts like the classic? I think so. They don''t strike me as that weird. I am looking at the picture with the gifts immediately above this message. If it weren't for the blue shirt underneath it (and of course the medallion and glasses) Chris wouldn't stand out to me as dressed oddly. It's the blue shirt that ruins it.

As for the church picture. His clothing looks really 80's to me. If it were taken 10-15 years earlier it would be fairly normal. I would guess the clothes come from a bygone era.

So yes the clothes were mass produced. Chris stands out by wearing fashions that are out of style by a mile or by mixing and matching in ridiculous ways.

Chris wore whatever Barb got him from Goodwill whenever it wasn't MHS hoodies, neither had any fashion sense

The spooning: I think they are each others "security blanket". As for the fanny pack, just NO. The only person that can pull that look off is a 65 year old woman in a resort community in Florida.

The "classic" red ans blue shirt with jeans is actually normal. Some of his other shirts ("advice dog") are dated but it's not super off.

Those colorful shirts are childlike- like "Garanimals", etc. He has been childlike for a long time, it probably just felt right to him. If you look at any picture of him that exists up to about the time of his making love quest signs, he really WAS still an 8 year old inside basically. Look at the video of him after winning the Sonic contest- I could easily still see that oblivious kid in him until perversions got ahold of him.

Wasn't it speculated that Barb purposely dressed Chris in weird outfits to call attention to his autism?

If Chris is autistic it came from somewhere. It seems his parents, especially Barb, were not normal.

It's also possible he got his style of dress when he was a child and it would look normal to dress like that, and then simply kept on dressing that way because it became a routine, and autistic people are notoriously bad about changing their routines.

I think that, while Barb 'n Bob not paying attention to what kids were wearing was something of an issue, it really boiled down to cost. The mountain of pre-tugboat games and Lego proves they weren't poor, they could afford to not have to shop at Goodwill. It's just always been Barb's preference to save money. Pre-hoard I don't know what they spent it on other then games and toys for Chris, however.

This. They weren't dressing Chris up to make him look like a clown, to draw attention to his autism, to indulge his love for bright, clashing colors. Barb saw a bunch of crap in his size that looked suitable enough so she bought it. There may have been a huge liquidated shipment of rugby shirts one day years ago that made it to Goodwill and a look was born.

This might be a known fact for many people here, but looking at this picture I just realized that at least two shirts exist (or existed) that fall under the description of "The Classic". The one seen in the above picture has several red and blue strips of the same width with thin white ones between them (6 red strips and 7 blue ones if it's the same shirt on this Megan picture):

The other Classic, seen on the Attraction Pictures, has less stripes and the red ones are noticeably thicker than the blue ones:

It also has a light blue neck, instead of the dark blue on the one above.

I wonder if at least one of these shirts survived the fire after all.

EDIT: I also just noticed that the first shirt has short sleeves (DUH) and is dubbed "The Classic Shortsleeve" on the CWCki.

Don't forget that Jaleel White voiced Sonic on three different Sonic cartoons. Not Sonic Boom, though. Jaleel might be a hero to Chris.
