Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

So, is this kinda it for video games? It feels like it might be for me at least.

The only upcoming game I'm really hyped for at the moment is RE8, I will definitely play that, but after that I really don't know what the future holds, I guess there's also Elden Ring to look forward to that but that seems like vaporware.

I've waited too long and had too much hype for Cyberpunk and this feels like one disappointment too many to me, Bioshock Infinite was a letdown, MGSV was a letdown, Death Stranding was a letdown, every game I've gotten super hyped for over the last decade has let me down, something is fundamentally broken about this entire hobby and medium and I'm just kinda tired of it.

For one thing it's getting too damn expensive and too much of a pain in the ass to try to keep up with, current gen consoles are vaporware, new graphics cards are vaporware, scalpers are bleeding this fucking industry dry.

I've come very close to bailing on current gaming before and just focusing on revisiting games I already love or catching up on what I missed, I really hate the idea of abandoning current gaming but it just doesn't seem worth it anymore.

Thanks for dropping the ball so hard CDPR.

didn't we have this same discussion a while back? or might have been someone different.
anyway, secret is not getting hyped, and there's plenty of stuff you don't need a 3090TI for, heck even the ps4 runs most sufficiently with enough games available to last another lifetime.

can't even remember the last time I was really looking forward to a game, let alone AAA. ironically closest would be cp2077 but only after it became clear it would be a shitshow. kinda like you'd pay to see a demolition derby. if you don't have any expectations, or at best low ones, you can only be pleasantly surprised. wasn't hyped for infinite, still enjoyed it. wasn't the best game I ever played, but wasn't the worst either. which could be said about most games, and I assume death stranding will be the same when I finally get around to play it.
might also help that I'm quite tolerant if I at least can see some effort, but then my wallet also gives train wrecks like cp2077 a wide berth to begin with (would still have played it for free of course just to see the shit show from the first row, but 60 bucks? lol nope). and it's not like you are in any danger to waste money, because everybody is aping /v/ these for clickbait and just waiting for the next tortanic - and only retards preorder or buy day 1.

besides, it's not like the industry really needs me or you, there will always be enough dumb consumerist sheep out there, just enjoy the ride but don't get invested in it.

It's a separate team within CD Projekt RED, but even the latest patch for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game was a disaster.

It introduced a game breaking bug where playing certain cards will cause you or your opponent to desync with the game's server and forfeit the match.

Wtf happened to this company since 2015? They might actually collapse at this point.

Sega posted a major loss for that game, nobody bought it.

And here I was waiting for a GOTY edition of it and it sounds like they're cutting their losses for it.
Have you played? It's pretty damn good. If you're steam hit me up and I might gift it because I'm day drinking.

Shame too, It's excellent. Possibly my GOTY.
The one thing that has always put me off from the yakuza games has been the minigames that have nothing to do with the main part of the game. They're not always the best done and can be tedious, poorly balanced, or annoying. With this one they all said the mini games were not a pain in the ass and it was somewhat shorter to finish to 100% compared to the previous ones.

So I figured I would give the game a go once they were done releasing all content for it.

My advice: go indie or go home at this point.
...Figuratively speaking at least. At the very least try some smaller studios' games.

With how incestuous the AAA industry has become (and how that doesn't seem like it's going to stop anytime soon), you'd be better off looking outside of those studios to independent companies for things; they're essentially to the current industry what AA games were way back when. Granted: not all of them are gonna be winners and you may have to do some legwork and search for stuff that may fit your interests, but you'll definitely find something out there that will peak your interest.

That and: and I cannot stress this enough, don't buy into the hype. Look at user reviews afterwards and make a decision then if you should buy it. Because more often than not, the things that you're getting hyped for are smoke and mirrors meant to pull people in. Albeit Cyberpunk was a very special case in that it was Aliens: Colonial Marines-levels of lying to your face.

Hey if he still hasn't gotten back to you later, I'll gladly take you up on that offer: I'd love to try that game out. From the little I've seen of it, that game looks right up my alley.

Not all of them, but the mini games are a big blemish and detractor to what otherwise would be a perfectly fine game.

Like when I sit down to finish a game, each yakuza one will take a month or more, so I need to allocate serious time to them.

Most RPGs will be a week or two at most in comparison.

I've been replaying the same games for 20 years now, with the occasional new game every now and again.

Civ, Thief, Planescape and Chrono Trigger never get old.

I'm surprised at how incestuous the indie side still is.

There's people out there who will reference Christine Love for some reasons, even though he hasn't done jack or anything noteworthy in years at this point.

You need to go further, start sampling shit from indie scenes outside the US.

Be like one of only 5 people who ever bought the game, post some critiques that are not absolutely glowing but fair and critical, and then get angry messages from the dev themselves about how their code is masterful and perfect even though you have 15 minute long videos of poor hit detection in the game itself.

This. Ironically a lot of indie slav companies are producing better video games than CDPR at this point. My most anticipated game release this year is from a bunch of nerdy Ruskies (Owlcat Games) who released their first game in a horribly buggy state much like Cyberpunk, but had worked tirelessly to patch the game and having played the alpha of their upcoming game, it looks like they've learned a lot from their previous mistakes.
