Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

Another thing. I am over 40 hours into the game and have no idea what "choom" and "gonk" mean. I can bullshit my way through "preem", but I still roll my eyes.

All of these terms pull me right out of the game because they seem really forced.
Choom = friend/bro
Gonk = asshole/prick

All of V's friends/allies get called choom and all the douchbag characters get called gonk so I'm not sure what confused you here.

Those concepts were never introduced and even several of the reads sound forced. Poor direction all around. I dislike the hamfisted writing.

I JUST added something while you were posting. Here:
Oh! And " ripperdoc" is so dumb. Call it a surgeon or something not "future". When Takemura asks after the first car chase: " Need to get to rippudocu." I was about fucking out. It sounds so dumb.

So it's your opinion that fantasy worlds shouldn't attempt any worldbuilding at all? Everything should just be a 1-1 equivalent of real world cultures and languages?

Well that sounds boring as shit. I'm glad you're not in charge.

Combat in the Witcher was a glorified rhythm game and was pretty straightforward once you figured it out
Yes

Alchemy was a mess but they never managed to fix that
you can craft potions that your character doesn't know about, plus they can have extra effects - albedo has less toxicity, rubedo adds extra health, nigredo - extra damage to attacks. It's even more busted than in 2
The story was fun and the characters and scenarios were pretty neat
I'd say story is great as well

You can just look up the street slang. Choom is short for Chombatta or Choomba. Its Afro-American street slang for a friend or family member. Gonk simply means a fool, idiot, or schmuck. All of this slang originates from the original tabletop game, so it be weirder if the game didn't include it.

So I've been replaying over this last year for the DLC and I guess I've now run into the problem people were having when the game updated to make it more CPU intensive than GPU. Only setting I had to turn down was crowd density so I could get stable frames in the really populated areas by Konpeki plaza. Not a deal breaker but kinda sucks Night City is a little less populated now. Though I guess it's a reason to get a beffey CPU now.

If we're going to start shitting on cyberpunk slang, "null sheen" from Shadowrun is one of the worst things I have ever heard.

William Gibson is particularly shit at picking terms for stuff. He lucked out with Cyberspace but as fun as his books are they do contain a lot of cringe.

I finally bought the game & the DLC because apparently the game is actually good now? However, after like 2 hours in (LOL, LMAO even) and two starts of the game (because the game crashed at the end of the prologue mission and savefile got corrupted) I can't help but notice that the writing and acting is kind of overtly edgy to a degree that it's kind of off-putting and the gameplay is mediocre at best? Let me recap my journey so far through my perception:

- Selected Nomad because apparently on the first playthrough it's THE Cyberpunk™ way because just like I know nothing about the game or the city, neither does my character (more on that later).
- Apparently I have abandoned my clan for the reasons unknown, I'm at a mechanic's, and there is some big problem with my car. Except the mechanic wants more money, I think, to fix the problem and my character is like "no dice, I'll fix it myself". The fix in this case constitutes unplugging some wire from one socket and plugging it into another one and the car pretty much instantly works? So it wasn't a difficult problem to solve after all? I don't know, the mechanic seems kind of dumb passing up on free money like that for a fix that took 5 seconds.
- Some cop comes in and immediately starts harassing me, again for absolutely no reason. What's up with that? Though for that it's worth my character is also kind of a dick towards the guy. Why is everyone in this game a huge asshole?
- Okay, I need to find some dude Jackie, but I don't know where he is and my car radio isn't powerful enough to reach some buddy of mine who should theoretically be aware of Jackie's whereabouts. So the new plan is that I'll drive to the antenna tower, hook my shit up to it, reach my friend, and obtain the location. Got it? Cool.
- So upon reaching the control box at the tower my character is seemingly going through an episode of roid rage or something and doesn't just open the control box. He instead RIPS THE FUCKING PANEL OFF IT for absolutely no reason.
- I reach my buddy and he's kind of pissed at me for leaving the clan (at least this part is explained) and doesn't want to help me locate Jackie, but in the end does so anyway.
- So I go back into the town and first run into this guy who looks like he can shred a mean solo, but instead is just like playing some really mellow stuff and there is a bunch of dudes around him vibing. Kind of a weird scene.

- Okay, back to Jackie. Well, as it turns out, I could've probably just asked around for him because he is chilling like 10 feet away from the auto shop where the mission started.
- Jackie is a Mexican and has the most annoying accent ever, but doesn't look Mexican at all. Weird.
- He needs some cargo smuggled, but it still baffles me why does the player character (other than kick the plot off) needs to be involved. Long story short, we simply drive to a border checkpoint, I bribe the customs guy and we just pass through. Like why couldn't Jackie done it himself?
- Well, it seems the customs guy took our money, double-crossed us anyway, and we get bushwhacked immediately after getting away from the border. This was the point where the game crashed, savefile got corrupted, and I was already pondering rage-quiting because I had to do all that boring shit again and re-endure every single edgy conversation.
- Anywho we kill the guys and pull into some garage.
- Jackie decides we should take a look at the merchandise we were transporting and almost died protecting. Well, it's a geko. What the fuck?
- Jackie suggests he and V go into a business partnership together. Because reasons? I don't know, I personally wouldn't team up with a guy I have known for like an hour, but whatever.
- Then there is a montage and suddenly it's half a year later and V is nicely integrated into Night City's underworld through Jackie. So all this lore stuff about Nomads not knowing anything about NC and being outsiders is moot now?

This is as far as I've gotten right now because this game is a frustrating experience (don't even get me started on the controls and the fuckton of information the game throws at you, but doesn't explain) and there's bound to be some major bullshit going forward, but I'll give it more time. Even with all its apparent fixes, the game does in no way deserve all the praise some people seem to give it.

He outright tells your quick fix is a dubious solution that's got a good chance of fucking your engine before too long.

A small town cop hating a strange wanderer with no ties just showing up out of the blue? Why, I've never heard of such a thing!

Jackie doesn't know how to smuggle at all, hence the PC getting involved.

Well, if you were paying attention to the dialogue you would have known you were working by yourself with no protection from a larger group, and that sort of thing was likely to happen.
- Jackie decides we should take a look at the merchandise we were transporting and almost died protecting. Well, it's a geko. What the fuck?
Iguana, which you'd know if you were paying attention to dialogue. You would also know from said dialogue they're supposedly extinct and therefore worth a good chunk of change.

Which is fair, and the weakest part of all the prologues, Nomad, Corpo, and Streetkid alike.

Did you actually hear any of the dialogue at all, or just skip past it all?

I got back into the game after quitting halfway through, why the fuck am I getting jumped by gangsters whenever I get into my car?
