Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Metascore: 98 User score: 5.7
It's not woke enough to go that high. User score is probably about right though.

It's kind of tough to call in my opinion, you got some people already up in arms, it looks insanely buggy but there's still tons of residual hype. My guess would be that it doesn't go below 80 but also not above 90. Fuck, some people will jizz their pants just because of Keanu Reeves and Hideo Kojima.

Stand Alone Complex is amazing. It is also the origin of the phrase 'Stand Alone Complex'. I mean, the series founded a concept and a word into usage, which is pretty amazing in and of itself. So it has had a huge cultural impact. GitS is classic. Netflix deserves to be culled for the blasphemy of making it CG.
I've never heard of SAC being used in any context other than in regards to the show. I mean, it's not even anything new, the "stand alone" episodes were filler eps. Lots of shows do that.

VIDEO GAMES! AND SEX!
SEX IN VIDEO GAMES!!
WOW!!!

(some poolish man had to mocap this in warsaw. "y-yes matka, I am big video game developer now.").
Well, on a scale where 0 is Ethan Ralph's sex tape and 10 is something that doesn't kill my erection for a week, I give it a solid 5.

Yeah, but it seems like you're coming at this with tempered expectations. Many others are treating this like the second coming of messiah, and often with no real clear idea of what this game is. We're just pointing out mystery box is oozing a brown liquid and smells like shit and, in lieu of getting people to actually change their minds, sitting down to watch the show when they see what's actually in the box.

Every part of that scene - sound, designs, animations, music, editing - felt like it was created by a different team with no knowledge of what the other teams were doing aside from them all making a sex scene together.
What may seem like tempered expectations is actually just experience from literal fucking years of watching people fling shit at each other over this game. It's been a joy to witness, but I'd say at this point the expectation for it to be the second coming of christ isnt as prevalent as people think.

TBH I don't get the hype about this game. Made by the same people, who made Witcher 3, so?

According to Steam, I've got ~50 hours in Witcher 3, In these 50 hours my impressions are the following:
- good graphics, although I really wish the fucking wind in the forest stops for 2 FUCKING MINUTES
- ok story. Yes, I'm one of those weirdos who don't think that Sapkowski's books are the pinnacle of the slavic literature. I've read all the books and remember almost nothing, so - they were ok, but not very impressive to me and no - CDPR did not out-do Sapkowski.
- lame gameplay - for me most of the gameplay boilt down to the following: get your horse from the roof, go to point A, kill everything (most of the time I was overleveled), ride back, watch cutscenes. Get another quest to talk to npc, get your horse of the roof, ride to npc b, watch another craptone of cutscenes. Rinse, repeat. The sword fight was boring as fuck, except the parts where I could remove limbs while riding the horse.

In conclusion - yes, it was a good game, especially with the other AAA crap, but for me - was that good as the people made (or wish) it to be? No.

So back to the point - I really don't understand the hype. Seems the same case like with Death Stranding, where people assumed that everything coming out Hideo's craphole is going to be automatically a masterpiece, smelling like roses and afterwards a lot of people were disappointed.

Do I wish that Cyberpunk is good game? Hell yeah, one more thing to play, the poles get some more money and a middle finger to all the trannies and other degenerates crying on twatter.
Witcher 3 only got lucky with the normies, because it came out at just the right time. Game of thrones was at its highest, it was compared to Skyrim and it was considered "dark and mature" setting. These said normies spew the same BS about how "CDPR is the greatest company ever because they gave away free dlc!!! And its expansion pack was an actual expansion!" keeping in mind that this is most likely their first CDPR game they have played. The vampire dlc was okay, but had some stupid ideas with how you get your own vineyard that you will never use and felt more like it was added in at the last minute. The story itself was eh, had some good fan moments if you read the books but thats it. The other dlc was shit and felt like a side quest but with more flair.

I've played alot of CDPR games, but not because I'm a fan or anything, more like I just happened to play them. TW1 was garbage and felt like it was trying to be like Gothic, TW2 was meh, mediocre at best. TW3 was their lucky break, but these new fans will continue to claim that the series was always great. CD is just another company that manipulated people with how it released its DLC, console players aren't used to free shit but when the game was nearing its release date, they were claiming to pc users that they would be given the devkit to make mods. Meaning mod makers would have the same level of freedom as the devs did, but when they released the "devkit" it turned out to be completely gimped. Just like how they gimped the port of Saints row 2.

TL;DR They got lucky with release date at 2015, they manipulated normies with shitty free dlc and they butchered Saints row 2 port because they hate pc players.

Bro, Last of Us Part II got like good review scores, the bar isn’t that high.
Problem is that they had the troon reviewers on their side, CP2k77 doesn’t have that cause it’s too unwoke, and the Resetera clique is already hating on it.

I expect maybe 80s-max low 90s, since reviewers are going to be looking at bones to pick with it. Game’s going to have a long road ahead of it IMO.

At this point, it just looks like Watch Dogs, GTA, and Fallout 4 had an ugly baby. I know the schadenfreude is inevitable, but it's going to be so grating to listen to le reddit army defend this game with its life for the next 2 years. Watching some of the leaked gameplay, I admit that some of the shooty main storyline missions do look fun. Like Fallout 4, I anticipate that the polished gunplay and open world will captivate the average player for 10-20 hours. After that, one's level of delusion will determine how long it takes them to realize, "Wow, this sucks."

This assumes, though, that the majority of the bugs we've seen will be fixed by the day one patch. If the footage we've seen is the result of 7 years of development, it's hard to believe that everything we've seen was fixed in a matter of months. I've seen motorcycle gameplay where the player is traveling to a waypoint via highway, and there's an abrupt all black loading screen of non-trivial duration. When I saw it, I actually thought the clip was over. Then the game reloads and you're thrown back onto the highway. Unless the game is vastly larger than I know of, loading screens in a world of this size are almost embarrassing, especially when the game clearly takes such inspiration from Rockstar Games. This isn't something that I'd think would be fixed by a patch, and seems like a flaw with the game's design on a deeper level.

And I'm appalled by how the game looks on next-gen consoles. Much of CDPR's cult seems to think that the PC version will be a different game entirely. The recommended specs to run the game on high in 1080p are absolutely wild. Taking aside the elite gamers with $1500 Cyberpunk Machines, much of the PC fanbase will likely be playing this game on low or medium. So, the game will look and run less like shit for a fraction of the overall playerbase. The PC gaming echo chamber would believe that fraction is something like 1/2 or 1/3, but in reality it's going to be more like 1/12. CDPR shot themselves in the foot by marketing so, so aggressively to normies. Otherwise the odds of forgiveness would be more in their favor.

It's fully plausible that the game is maintained and improved by CDPR in the coming years, and I'm sure the modding community will improve it as well. But the fact of the matter is that the mass majority of the original player base will already have forgotten about the game by then. Plus, if the game has any of these egregious technical issues on launch day, the ensuing PR shitstorm might be too much for CDPR to recover from. I'm unfortunate enough to know more than one person who will be taking time off work to play this game. For some people, this vidya is more important than I could ever understand. I'm looking forward to CDPR realizing that establishing and coddling a fanbase consisting primarily of gamer autists is a double-edged sword.

Wait, so this game which has received universal hype for the past decade from a studio that has pandered to every crazy troon imaginable doesn't turn out to be the greatest accomplishment of the human race? Actually turns out to be rather dull?

Someone better call the police, FBI, CIA, Secret Service and the Park Rangers. They are going to need to be made aware of this crucial development that nobody could have seen coming.

@SIGSEGV is there like a main phone number to call to get through to all the alphabet glow in the darks at once?

I still don't understand the people taking time off on launch day. When has a launch day for a title this big ever work out?

Like if your gonna take time off at least give it like a extra 2 days if not a full week for a bunch of launch bugs to get ironed out and to omly have to down a single game instead of game plus multiple patches.

Imagine sitting there, game crashing every 10 minutes, and you realize you could have been at work making money instead of sitting there being angry at your day.

It's even weirder given how close we are to Christmas. Unless you're in something somewhat important, which gamers certainly aren't, then you're about to get a good chunk of time off.

Oh it will be even worse then that: Mediocre with the fans keep tripping over themselves saying the dev's will fix and patch it some day.

This image remains more relevant than ever.
