All this while keeping "Cool Cat Stops a School Shooting" on the back burner for over three years. We're only interested in the school shooting shitshow, Derek. No one cares about your new retarded attempt at a viral short film anymore.

it does sort of beg the question about why he's bothering with a boom mic to get engine, yelling, and BWEE BWEE BWEE BWEE BWEE, but yeah I really didn't expect anything as professional as that

It's because he wants to be seen as a professional and professionals use those things so he needs to use those things.

Compare that to the behind the scenes of I think it was "Cool Cat Defeats Coronavirus" where we find that Dirty Dog is somehow able to create them, we see Daddy Derek with a camera on a monopod. Meaning he was doing a lot of the filming and directing at the same time. He's now moved up in the world and can sit in his director's chair and pretend like he's a real filmmaker.

Kind of like how James Rolfe squandered his fan's money on the AVGN movie. "it has to be filmed in LA, it's a real movie!"

Yeah but that was still a "movie" and honestly what did you expect? It was never going to be good and the only people that really liked it were fans of James.

As far as I'm aware the only person that honestly thinks Cool Cat is cool and people like his stuff is Daddy Derek. The people that watch his stuff are either too young to care about the quality or they're snarky people on the internet who want to laugh at him. There's no middle ground.

This poses an interesting question: what, if anything, could Derek do with the Cool Cat character that could garner at least a minor degree of success?

Stop being such a spaz and embrace the weirdness of it? There's nothing inherently wrong with Cool Cat except Daddy Derek is at the helm, writes like an idiot, hires the worst kid actors out there, thinks he's making high art and now has gone back and redubbed all of Cool Cat's lines. it's just a clusterfuck at this point.

In better hands this could have been a genuine thing from the heart and honestly trying to teach kids a good lesson. But because he needs to be so front and center about it it just becomes about him. You know, like how the Sonichu comic became less about Sonichu and more about Chris. Daddy Derek will always be associated with Cool Cat because he's a spaz.

Are you honestly saying with a straight face that Erik Estrada with a BAC in the .20 or so range saying "DEEEEERE HE IS!" is not some of the best content ever created?

it sorta reminds me of the flub in Manos where the clapboard is visible in one shot as it starts
the flub isn't _just_ that the clapboard (that clicky thing for "REEL 1 SCENE 3 SOUND ROLLING FILM ROLLING ACTION CLAK") is in the shot
those are for sound synch purposes, otherwise you could just use any sheet of paper and the guy walks away
Manos didn't have sound synch. Our noble fertilizer salesman just got a clapboard because... you know... making a movie and stuff.

Yeah that was amazing as was most of that movie. Only two people did the AVR work, the fact that Torgo dies from being gently massaged to death, having a clapper when there was no sound recorded. The entire movie is just the worst kind of shlock out there but because everybody is legit trying their best it becomes something amazing.
