I've been trying to figure out Derek's political leanings for like 3 years now. He is pro 2nd amendment, pro marijuana, pro bilingual education, pro environmental protection policies, and pro Trump. I'm so lost here.
I don't think all of these are inherently incompatible - like Arnie said, we don't have "democrat air" and "republican air", so the environment thing doesn't seem like an indicator really. Bilingual education, if he lives or lives near the border he might see it as a necessity? A lot of the "alt-right", at least in the early days, took the view of "do what you want, just don't kill or steal from others, and don't expect us to pay for it." So I guess the weed thing is also non-partisan/

He lives in California, right? I think the simplest explanation is that he is just a Californian Republican. The California GOP is, generally speaking, more left-leaning than the national GOP writ large is (with some exceptions, such as in more conservative districts where candidates with more right-leaning views still have a chance of winning). He probably supports Trump out of party loyalty even if he disagrees with Trump on specific policies - weed, immigration, whatever. The overwhelming vast majority of GOP voters support Trump, after all. The rest falls in line with about what I'd expect from a mainstream Cali Republican.

IMO, his politics are fine and the least cringey thing about him, which is saying something, since you'd think someone as wacky as he is in every other area would also have some similarly wacky political views.

Nah, iirc he lives in Las Vegas.

yeah that's not that crazy, "pot smoking republican" has kinda been a catch-all for the "fiscal conservative, social neutral" old libertarian non-religious types for a while, and there's a lot of republicans who don't hate the environment, but also think shitting away a bunch of taxpayer money on things that won't help isn't good either

tbh apart from the pot-smoking, this is me down to a T. People assume I'm a crazy leftie because one of my strongest convictions is the environment; but when it comes down to fiscal, I'm close to being as "far right" as you can be! I'm pretty socially neutral, I don't care if someone's black or brown or yellow or gay or tranny, but I also don't think importing people from islamic countries will end well - just look at Europe!

Anyway, back on topic, Derek is shilling a DVD "boxset" of the same movie three times ...

I think the most interesting thing is that Derek actually decided to make a collector's set for this, and even a friggin signed page from the script for what he probably deems "the hardcore fans". As if this really has an unironic fanbase to begin with.

Heck even Tommy wiseau has quite the die hard following now, it might be small but they are quite obssessed. I wonder if we'll ever get a joker style take on the distaster artist, except its about derek savage and therefore less funny and more sad?

I find it hilarious that on his website he posted the first chapter of his books, one of which is about God's Wrath (thats what the book is actually called), the other is about a male stripper.

I would imagine he's anti union because they make it more expensive for him to get into the film business, or at least more expensive for him to get quality talent for cheap.

Given the films he's made, do you think Daddy Derek could really tell quality talent?

No Derek I haven't guessed, mostly because I don't want to.
