Surely the creator of “Gun Safety for Ladies and for Men Too” wouldn’t have been arrested for an unlicensed firearm.

The charge sounds scary to some, but to me it suggests only a tinker who went a little too far. The gun in question, a MAC-11, has a manufacturing quality somewhere between that of a Hot Wheels car and a cap pistol. It was designed for cheapness of manufacture in an era where submachine guns were becoming obsolete. Its greatest governmental market was with tin-pot dictatorships who didn't need comparatively expensive assault rifles to oppress unarmed peasants.
A full-auto rendition of a semiautomatic clone of this gun was not some superweapon. It was a piece of shit. Still, some people fantasize about fully automatic weapons, and it is really simple to convert a MAC-11, so a lot of low-budget wannabe Rambos went that route.
If Derek Savage was this same Derrick Savage, my only reaction is that he has bad taste in submachine guns.
