kind of makes me think of Mike Lazzo's cameos on Robot Chicken & the few times he chimes in on how he makes choices in essentially running Cartoon Network/funding shows. They must have an interesting dynamic; Harmon's probably appealing to Lazzo's "industry expertise" with that story circle horseshit and diversity hires. Lazzo probably thinks he's King Shit™ for wrangling two creatives that have almost no business working together and wringing tons of ad dollars, intellectual property and licensing revenue out of the two of them. And Roiland is just happy his sucking-child-penis jokes make it on an actual cable network and not just youtube anymore.

Off topic, but I happened to watch the R&M music video the team made for Run the Jewels. I know it was only 4 minutes long but it's still somewhat startling how much smoother the animation was and how the visual style was a lot more vibrant than Harmon's scripts. I can guess that RtJ tossed some extra budget their way but the use of colors was still much better than anything lighting-wise in season 3.

you'll find most animated music videos are far more artistic and aesthetic with their colors and visual style than a standard 22-minute episode of anything. It's generally cost-saving and re-using assets to make a series consistent, but for 4 minute shorts anything goes.

Dan has a big fat face and large distended belly, both symptoms of alcoholism.
He is actually quite malnourished, minus his love of drink he would look like something out of auschwitz, clothing hides that but leaves his belly and face.

To be fair, Harmon being his partner in the show was Roiland's idea from what I can tell. Roiland admitted that story-telling and plots aren't his strong points and that without that R&M would just be crude humor, but I've also come to notice that Roiland is also not very assertive and had never really worked with Harmon prior to that. So despite the multiple red flags that surround Harmon, I guess Rolland was either ignorant of his history or whatever drugs that Harmon gives people to make them think he's this silver-tongued charismatic genius kicked in and Dan spun a story to make it seem all his past workplace toxicity either wasn't his fault or a misunderstanding. Either way, despite Roiland acknowledging his creative short-comings, he was naive at best or wilfully ignorant at worst to pick Harmon of all people as a partner. A decision I think Roiland regrets somewhat given his half-hearted responses in previous material and interviews.
Speaking of which, I was thinking back to some of Harmon's recent block tirades, specifically this one, and I find it also very telling that his response to a rather tame comment about a troll is "How dare you! My friends would never talk to me this way! BLOCKED" Most people tend to have at least one friend who will tell you when you're being ridiculous, that you're making a mountain out of a molehill, or that you're fucking up & need to get your shit together; but apparently Harmon is content to surround himself with yes-men who are content to just sit back and watch Dan drink himself to death while make an ass of himself on Twitter and his various podcasts.

He celebrates plugging his ears and blocking people, way more than even the average twitter warrior does. Even people like voidburger or slowbeef don't invent a brand new hashtag just to signify they blocked someone, but he did. That tells me there is something hugely wrong with his mind.

Not only that, but I get the impression that he just can't help himself. People have pointed out to him time and again that announcing every single block not only draws attention to the person you're blocking, but that by doing so he is basically handing a comprehensive list of everything that pisses him off and can be used to troll him to other trolls on a silver platter; but he just continues to respond with "BLOCKED" as though the advice is inherently worthless just because it came from someone less famous/important than him.
He even goes after comments that most other lolcows wouldn't even bother with because they're nothing comments
Oh and his dog is sick and needs surgery or something. Presumably because Dan's been too busy blocking people on Twitter and making podcasts about his boring life and opinions to take care of the poor thing:
