At least Trump is
Not to keep harping on the subject of Harmon's ex-wife, but it's interesting to note that she's a redhead, and a lot of the women that the two main characters of R&M have shown romantic interest in have also been redheads.
Even more interesting is the episode where Rick gets back with his old girlfriend, Unity. Unity is a hive mind who has many different bodies, but her main one throughout the show is, you guessed it, a redhead. In the episode, Rick gets back together with Unity and his self-destructive behavior proves infectious, causing her to become self-destructive too. She realizes this, and so she leaves Rick. Rick, in response, slips into a deep depression and attempts suicide.
Given the timeline of their marriage, this episode was likely produced at a point where it was beginning to fall apart, but before it actually did. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this was Harmon's attempt to send a message to her. "Don't leave me, or I'll kill myself." I know that this is mostly me making assumptions, but at the same time, Rick is Harmon's self-insert, and the episode aired in 2015 (the same year the divorce happened). It's definitely a possibility.
Just to properly illustrate the situation:

And having a hot redhead wasn't enough for him so HE cheated on HER...
They both claim to remain good friends since the divorce. I'm not saying it's impossible to be friends with an ex, but I'm sure that's an exaggeration. Given what's already apparent about Harmon, it's more likely that she just keeps him at arm's length because she doesn't want to deal with the inevitable shitstorm from him and his fans that'd happen if she told him to fuck off.Funnily, Harmons's ex Erin McGathy appears regularly on Harmonquest despite the divorce. There doesn't seem to be a lot ot bad blood between the two, but I don't think it's unlikely Dan keeps her around in the show to show what a heroic feminist he is for not firing her after the divorce, as well as to appear like lass of an ass because of the allegations of his attempted cheatings. Dan might be an self-inportant, virtiolic cunt, but he's also a pussywhipped sissy as far as women go, especially after getting caught being an asshole.
It's a possibility, but keep in mind American cartoons do take between 6 months to a year to produce, so who knows? Not to keep harping on the subject of Harmon's ex-wife, but it's interesting to note that she's a redhead, and a lot of the women that the two main characters of R&M have shown romantic interest in have also been redheads.

Which is why I said that it was likely at a point where they were suffering complications, but not really at the level where she decided she wanted out yet. I'm just making assumptions, but they're assumptions based on existing information. It's a possibility, but keep in mind American cartoons do take between 6 months to a year to produce, so who knows?
That would really explain why she always seems so uncomfortable sitting next to him during the show. Earlier I couldn't put my finger on it, but the way he was announcing her at the start of each episode kinda felt off. In hindsight, I think there's a hint off passive agressiveness in there, as if he's super nice to her to show what she's lost. It always sounded like he was saying "And this is my beautiful, extremely talented co-host I love and respect so much, it's so weird she left me despite all this love and respect I'm showing, right?".They both claim to remain good friends since the divorce. I don't think that's an unfair assumption to make. Dan Harmon is demonstrably a complete asshole to damn near everyone he comes in contact with. Even if he shows what a "good" person he is by keeping her around after the divorce, it's definitely plausible that he resents her for leaving such an amazing person like him.
Not that it matters to much nor do I put any stock in comparing Harmon to characters from a fucking cartoon, but in this regard, wouldn't Harmon be more akin to Beth?
Like, Rick actively goes out of his way to fuck with people and ruin their lives and only can get emotionally invested whenever it's his ego or status quo challenged or changed. Beth went on pretending like she was an intelligent, kind-hearted individual for three seasons and it took her grandfather to point out how much of a bitch she was after the rest of her family failed to do so that got her to recognize this.
Doesn't help that Beth's alcoholism is shown in a far less humorous light than Rick's constant drooling, stuttering, and fits of incompetency.
I have a hard time believing that. Roiland is an edgelord who constantly makes jokes about molestation, weird thing to do if it makes you feel oh so bad. My guess: it was probably another one of his edgy jokes or trying to cover his ass from critique over his weird fixation on kiddy diddling.
I'M BETA RICK!!!I turned myself into a cuck, Morty.

Or it could be like you said - a smokescreen to divert people from suspecting that Justin likes 'em real young.
Quite a bit. There's a few episodes where the show is ripped completely from his hands (the superhero one, for example) and he predictably calls them the worst episodes in the series.Wonder how much creative influence Dan has on the R&M franchise.
RIP Million AntsIronically, the superhero episode was one of the best of season 3.
You can still like the show despite one of the creators being an asshat. You don’t have to like the creator of a thing to enjoy the thing itself. This thread is brutal. I had no idea. I feel like I'm experiencing a schadenfreude overdose. I like Rick and Morty as much as the next idiot but just... wow
That was done in the same style as the intergalactic cable episodes (Which Justin and his pals did). I do think that Dan had a hand in the episode though. Justin doesn't appear to be a genius when it comes to planning a story line. Dan "created" the story circle after all.My favorite season 3 episode was Tales from the Citadel. I don't know how much input Harmon had for that one, but I do know that he didn't write it.
There are elements of Beth that echo Harmon as well, which you pointed out quite nicely. But I think that was either a subconscious thing on Harmon's part, or the other show writers trying to subtly let him know that they've got him pegged. Rick is mainly everything Harmon wishes he was: accepted as a genius and asshole, and given a free pass to be a dick because he's "damaged" and "really a nice guy at his core".
