Yeah, it's crazy to me when someone with so much money, and every thing that could make self-improvement as easy as possible, delivered right to them, just won't give it enough of a chance. Oh boy, you don't know the half of it. There is actually a bit to unpack just about his bathing habits. This is all from what I remember from the podcast, so I might get some details wrong.

First off, he claims that taking showers hurts/are uncomfortable because he has some vague idea that he may be autistic/aspergers and has some sensory issues or whatever. He has no idea and just took some online tests, but it's a convenient reason for him to avoid them. He takes baths infrequently, mostly because they are inconvenient I'd assume. (an aside he aslo gets really salty whenever he gets a write up and they use a shitty pic of his, saying something like "If they did this to a women they would be sexist!" or whatever.)

Now this next part I kinda gotta dig deep for, but the basics are: When he was a kid there was a bus bully who would roast people. Harmon wasn't the only target. but his shabby appearance was brought up. One day he decides to do a morning routine, shower, hair and what not. The same bully then notices when he gets on and just sorta goes on and on saying stuff like "hey you cleaned up." and "Everybody get a load of this dude. He's gonna score!" or shit like that. Which pissed off dan to such a psychotic extent that he decided to not only neglect general hygiene but also hate anyone who "tells him what to do." This goes for friendly advice, constructive criticism, helpful suggestions, or anything he wasn't going to do already.

To Harmons credit that guy was definitely fucking with him all the way through, even when he was going "good job man you cleaned up!". But he clearly has never gotten over it.

Nah, Rick and Morty has a major publicity problem after the Pickle Rick, Schezuan Sauce, and big IQ memes dominated the internet in the two years it took for season 4 to get made. The ratings were abysmal.
Also, getting renewed for 70 episodes is unheard of in adult animation. Especially when those 70 episodes were confirmed to be split up into seven seasons. not even the Simpsons in its prime could get that deal. Adult swim shot itself in the foot by agreed to keep an already dwindling show alive for 7 more years minimum regardless of outcome.

And think of what that says to the fans? Part of what made Robot Chicken a long term success was that every season ended with the show being “canceled.” This was an in-joke because Seth Green literally didn’t know if they would get a new season or not, so every season had to be a series finale. Not only did this allow for grand season openings, it also let fans know that they had to keep impressing with their seasons or risk actual cancellation because they couldn’t use the “we need to end it” excuse with the network. Rick and Morty has the position of not having to do anything to be renewed for another 6 seasons. That’s 6 seasons of plot points being dragged out too long, 6 seasons of jumping the shark constantly, and 6 seasons where the writers don’t have to care.

but that also implies that adult swim doesn’t plan to have any worthwhile programming for those 6 seasons and is going all in on Rick and Morty. This move could be the biggest disaster for the network if it backfires

I haven’t seen the contract obviously, so I can’t answer that 100% accurately. Usually usually the loops holes involve controversies. Like, if Justin did something exceptional and they had to cut ties with him, that could be one of the only major bounds for contract termination since he’s basically the only way you can do the show.
I’m sure there’s something, but at this point they’ll likely keep pushing the show to survive to avoid paying the millions it could take to terminate this large of a contract

Here’s my honest theory.
Rick and Morty has a higher budget than the average adult swim show, but it’s also currently popular and adult swim never lets a popular show end gracefully. But they couldn’t just drag it out because every year Justin would be a bigger flight risk and without him there is no show. He’s already expressed interest in making other shows and moving on, so as a reactionary measure to lock him down at a consistent rate instead of going into a bidding war every year, they ordered an insane amount of episodes to air over the 7 years,
Let’s remember that Dan was pulling a “the show isn’t renewed yet” for well over a year before this announcement. If I had to guess, AS wanted the show faster, and he wanted more job security. Justin wanted to leave, but couldn’t say no to an unheard of guaranteed 7 years of consistent work. So to appease them, and guarantee their show can come out at a faster rate, adult swim jumped the gun and paid out big time

All I know is R&M is doomed to get much worse than it already is, and it didn't start out all that good (especially good looking) to begin with. 7 years of mediocrity / garbage TV is not something to look forward to if it happens, neither.

After a while, you begin to crave something actually good (and furthermore, good for you, at least for the mind, anyway.). R&M is just junk food to ween yourself off of, at this point - when the show should have been consistently good from the beginning like your actual favorite whatever-the-fuck-it-happens-to-be you tend to talk up a storm about and feel encouraged to do because that's the right effect something should have on you.

Harmony's blown it - and so has his contractors. Sorry to see Roiland roped into this, however (it's always been clear he wanted better for this show, too.).
