The bar has gotten incredibly low at this point. While content creation itself is more democratized, legacy corporations are just recycling old IPs in pursuit of nostalgia and heathen Chinesebux. The Critical Drinker did a solid rant not long ago about how the legacies of once great (or at least well-regarded) franchises have been ruined by mostly wokies who have no respect for the source material and decide that they know better, "standing on the shoulders of giants and shitting all over them". So when someone manages to not destroy the material, somehow that's seen as a work of staggering genius today. Jackson didn't fuck it up too badly and made lots of money and twits like Dan Olson lap it up. Compared to what's happened with Star Wars, Star Trek/Picard, He-Man, etc not fucking up the blueprint in favor of your own agenda driven propaganda looks like talent.
