I've always felt the fandom has been a bit on the really weird side. It easily competes with Voltron and Steven Universe in terms of how shitty the fandom is. Thread has some great potential with a bit more research into some of the drama going on. I'd start on twitter because I often see people with pfps from Dangan Ronpa saying stupid shit or starting pointless arguments.
The less you involve yourself in them, completely disassociate yourself with them, or just flat out ignore them, the more you'll enjoy and appreciate things.
Fandoms of anything regardless have proven to be the biggest cesspools of drama or mouthbreathing dimwits on the entire internet and nearly ruined my enjoyment of some things I liked.

Since I brought up kinnies, let me bring up a fun little incident that occurred before in the Danganronpa fandom. For starters, there is this cosplayer named Snowthesaltqueen who is a cosplayer, and she is known for her Danganronpa related cosplays. She just so happens to kin Junko, along with some other characters. She roused up a little shitstorm in the fandom because she ended up doing a photoshoot in a graveyard, like sitting ontop of the headstones.
This led to people inevitably reporting her to the superintendent of the graveyard which caught wind of the incident.
This is just scraping the surface of the kin bullshittery I've seen in the fandom. I'm eager to see this thread take off.

Alright, I am not precisely familiarized with the fanbase or the games or whatever, BUT I have been into obscure fandom drama for the longest time, and maybe any of you more experienced folk can help me out.
What is this whole ordeal about some Komaeda kinnie cutting their finger off? Because that came to my attention back when all those iceberg pictures were relevant to fandom culture and the information I have found about it seems to be very contradictory. Some people say it happened on a Discord call and it was only audio, some say that it was actually livestreamed and screenrecorded, some say that it was a hoax altogether.
Even if it was a hoax, I would like to know what Tumblr shenanigans lead to it (because, of course, this info seems to have come from Tumblr, and it couldn't be any other way). Tumblr is known for spreading a lot of misinformation, but also having a userbase that would absolutely do all sorts of crazy stuff, and I've been curious about it for the longest time.

I previously mentioned the situation with my SO's younger sister.
She was very excited to tell me, against my will, that their whole friend group are Dang Old Grandpa kinnies, and that she personally kins Komaeda. I haven't had time to get to DR2 but everything I've heard about this character sounds....awful. She insists that he's "not that bad" so someone a little deeper into the series please tell me what the fuck is up. Anyways point is, both she and the third friend in attendance have both also officially come out as trans and I'm pretty sure this fandom had a hand in it. I've spent enough time on twitter to know If you're under the age of 25 and like Danganronpa there is a 0.00% chance of identifying as cisgender. These kids are almost grown, I have to keep reminding myself that she's not like, 13.
Oh yeah, also Vinesauce streamer RevScarecrow went off the rails and banned a shitload of viewers for calling Chihiro a trap even though

Twitter is where you'll find the most pungent of the autism (to nobody's surprise) when they're not making another dumbass statement about how "Chihiro is totally trans guys!"
I recall that cringey roleplaying was a problem in the community for a while but it seems to have died down and was replaced with TikToks instead, the autism always seems to follow this fanbase.

This series has the same problem as Persona where each entry makes the fanbase worse even if the game isn't bad.
It's fake and footage of it doesn't exist, but people have been passing around this audio for a while which is presented as a Discord call that supposedly had the Komaeda-kin cutting their finger.
To me this is clearly very fake, the girls don't sound too distressed, and the original poster of it deleted the post afterward. (Current URL holder is possibly not the original blog owner)
The supposed friend also claimed that it was fake. (Their blog no longer exists)
The current URL owner for the does jokingly say that they cut it off though when asked, but again it's in jest.
It was mainly done to upset and paint fictionkin in a poor light, and the immediate fallout had most people seeing it as a joke done in poor-taste.
