Danganronpa Series - aka Demented Animatronic Bear Gets People Murdered: the Game

After finishing Trigger Happy Havoc, I have started Goodbye Despair. I have zero clues as to what the hell is going on, and its comedic tone has changed quite a bit:

What the fuck is going on in this game? :stress:

I think my biggest gripe with the series aside from the sisterfucking part is the bullshit in the anime.

Why did she brainwash them? We can see she's a manipulative little shit so why didn't she convince them to be on her side? For some of them I can get why it would be hard like Ibuki and Mahiru, but some of them would have a lot of promise. Teruteru joining to protect his siblings and to make sure no one dies of the disease his mom has, Fuyuhiko and Peko trying to figure out who killed Natsumi, Hiyoko not having anyone on her side, etc. It would give them some sort of depth and add to the development of them.

If they wanted to do a sequel, Make it V2 so we can get Rantaro and Tsumugi actually developed and not rely on vague bullshit at best.
Also gonta did absolutely nothing wrong.

My biggest gripe with part 2 so far is that you can not even logically go along with any of the murders anymore. In 1 at least you can make assumptions and come to your own conclusions, in 2 they throw a lot of narrative shit and intentionally mislead the player in the dumbest ways. I don't feel like I'm investigating murders anymore, I am just going along with whatever bullshit the plot throws at me. I was high on the first game, but I really dislike part 2.

At least V3 keeps some of the assumptions

I just finished danganronpa 2. it's such a good series and I love it
Danganronpa 2 might be the best direct sequel game ever made, at least in my opinion. A blanket improvement over its predecessor in gameplay, sound and story that is so far ahead of the curve in places that it's like it's flexing on all the games that get it wrong. Only other sequels quite on this level I can think of atm would be Mass Effect 2 and Virtue's Last Reward.

Visual novels are not games.

2 lacks just as much gameplay as the original.

And pulling ME2 and VLR out as examples out of the hundreds upon hundreds of other games that had legendary sequels like Super Mario brothers 3. Fuck you want to throw Monkey island in there as well, King's Quest, Half Life, Ys, Zelda there's loads, and nothing of Danganronpa can measure up because they're not games.

Like you're talking about a perfect sequel, how the fuck could you forget Heroes of Might and Magic 3?

Not a fan of the Warriors of Hope so far, but this bit made me chuckle.

UDG's humor is by far the edgiest danganronpa games ever went. you will see more like that.
and not to spoil it but imo one of those kids is the best villain of the series. it's also nice the bad guy gets actual screen time to be a character instead of the sudden twist reveal at the very end.

The gameplay is shit but it works very well story wise. Though that really sums up every non-quest game Spike Chunsoft does.

Never played this but I know somewhat what happens *cough*kaede*cough* but it looks like its not just a VN.....but it incorporates so much stuff like races, quizzes, side scrolling, etc.

The switch has all three games plus a summer game coming in a few days. Think its worth it? I can handle gore and heavy shit but if its a likeable character I usually have a difficult time lol

Edit: turns out I have one of thr anime op themes on my ipod....its by binaria iirc. But now I'm realizing there's a bunch of anime adaptations. Oh god. Oh god. It feels convoluted. Do you have to watch the anime too?!

No, danganronpa 3 aims to tie loose ends so maybe it's the only one you need to watch but it does it very badly.

The anime has some good tiny details the game doesnt though, like Taka voting for himself instead of Mondo in the chapter 2 trial.

I just finished V3 the other day, and while Spike Chunsoft considers The End's of Hopes peak the "official" third installment (with V3 being the fourth), I don't feel like I missed out on anything by not watching it. I'm planning on binging it at some point though, mainly because I feel like SDR2 didn't give me enough closure.

On that note- Holy shit, V3. I can see why people thought the ending was controversial, but man, what a whirlwind of a 6th chapter. Can't wait to pick up Decadence and replay them all.
