Welcome to the vortex; saying you'll be "working with Phil," means a few things to me.

1. You will not have the freedom/creativity you think you will if you're truly "working" with him.
2. You will be slandered if a non-positive product is launched.
3. We don't need a "professional" documentary; the spergs on the Internet do a fine job.
4. You've already fucked up by coming here; he loves to scream about detractors, and you coming here means you're tainted, and he won't see you as clean.

5. If you're serious, you need to do the hard work (which he won't like/let you)
5a. Talk to his parents, talk to John and Howard, talk to Leanna.
5b. His $5,000 monthly business expenses and other lies (like no pets) on his bankruptcy statement.
5c. His monthly living expenses / WWE account; he wastes money, we all know it; but he'll also cry poor, while also claiming the detractors stole $9,000 ($3,000/mo across 3 mo) from him.
5d. There are many spergs but few lorekeepers. They may be in the vortex, but utlimately unhelpful; stay away from Doody and ItsAGundam

If this project is to happen, the most valuable information or participation you could possibly have would be from significant people which the broader community hasn’t had access to in a while or ever. This means Phil’s direct family, Kat, John Rambo and Howard, and Pandalee. I feel with 100% certainty you will never enter Phil’s house, and it’s almost certain you will never meet him in person. If these aspects can’t be achieved, this project will likely be viewed as a waste of time by all who are already informed on Phil and his history.

@mikeclum If you want the purest lore, seek the one they call Almighty Tevin. I'm pretty sure he hasn't worked with any of the other so-called DSP documentarians in the past, even though I'm sure he's been contacted ad nauseam, but this is your golden goose. The man knows it all.

His Twitch page has all of his contact info - https://www.twitch.tv/almighty_tevin

Others have stated, but I will reiterate, stay away from dentractors like Doody Streams, Snort Hogan, ChillMurray7, etc.

I'm a film producer and documentary creator working on a film about the life and work of Phil Burnell aka DarkSydePhil. The film will document Phil's current life as a content creator, his childhood and rise to popularity, his various controversies, his downfall from his peak, and his future
I'll throw in my two cents with the general mission statement. Phil's life as a content creator is pretty boring because it's basically just waddle out of bed and turn the camera on. The biggest change in the last 5 years is he puts on a fancy shirt now, and going further back, he went from using a camcorder to a proper webcam. It isn't like a behind the scenes of making a movie or TV show where there's arguably interesting things to see. Or even other streamers who plan events or play characters or whatever. Heck, even hearing about the editing process would at least be something that's potentially interesting, but Phil doesn't do any of these things. He doesn't even have an interesting setup. With Phil, it really is what you see is what you get as far as content production.

Childhood seems like a big "who cares." To be fair, I'd likely say this about someone who was famous as well. There's obviously some exceptions where exploring someone's childhood is relevant to what they did, but I'd say it doesn't matter for 99% of streamers/YouTubers. Something like that is at most a fluff transition, where you'd spend a few seconds mentioning "Streamer X has been playing games since they got a N64 as a kid"

Even in a world where you got Phil's parents to sit down for an interview, I'd much rather hear what they had to say about current Phil versus "he was always such a good boy and loved playing games." and other platitudes you'd expect from parents.

Rise to popularity is worth mentioning, but I think you're overestimating how much of a story is there. Again, with other content creators there's probably more to talk about. How they advertised, what they did to refine a character, big events they created to draw attention to themselves, collabs they did etc. With Phil it boils down to taking advantage of YouTubes primitive system and spamming short uploads. It is worth mentioning and mildly interesting, but it's something that's already been "solved" and has less to do with Phil and more to do with YouTube/how the medium of uploading videos and creating content has greatly changed since those early days.

Controversies is definitely the bread and butter of the documentary. And I'll take my rainbow ratings for this. If you're serious about doing a documentary, this might be an area you can explore. But you won't get it from us or even just researching Phil, that's all been done before. You'll have to get in touch with people involved in the controversy and interview them. Things like talking to Rambo about Project 13, asking if his parents knew that he lied about them being on their death bed to take a vacation to get married/if they know about his gambling addiction. Things like that. Which...isn't impossible, but it's not like over the years people haven't had that same idea and were ultimately unable to reach out to them. It sounds like you'd be able to get some content creators to talk about Phil, which...isn't nothing, but it's hard to say it's "something." Phil is such a hermit that any interaction with other content creators is very limited, so I don't think Keem or Craig would have much else to say that hasn't already been aired publicly.

His future is a vaguely interesting idea, and again, with another content creator you might get some solid answers. But Phil is very famous for not thinking about the future at all and admitting he doesn't have a Plan B. Maybe if you were in person and having a real conversation with him where had to confront that idea it could be interesting, but otherwise...I dunno, I think it's just a generic "I'll keep streaming," maybe with something vague like "I'll add more perks." But just watch one of his suggestion box streams to get an idea for why there isn't much to explore here.

Honestly, I think the best thing you could do is watch the interview with Craig and take note of the areas that Phil either avoided answering or was vague on and use that as your basis. I think a general documentary on Phil is doomed to fail, but if you specifically do a documentary/interview about his gambling addiction or bankruptcy fraud, well, that has a little more potential. But it is entirely reliant on you having an honest, in-person conversation with Phil, which seems almost impossible. Otherwise, even if you go in-depth with some of the previous scandals, there's just not much else to say about them that hasn't been covered dozens of other times.

5c. His monthly living expenses / WWE account; he wastes money, we all know it; but he'll also cry poor, while also claiming the detractors stole $9,000 ($3,000/mo across 3 mo) from him.
I'd like to know why he gets so pissed off about a bank account being leaked that he claims isn't his. He should be laughing at the detractors making fools of themselves if it were true.

Also, farmers expose another catfish. This time aimed at Rekieta. lol

Can you please make a point bout the bizzare tick Phil has when seeing black people, he always puts his finger in his mouth and gnaws it, its so fucking weird and other docs never mention this. His racism, aside from the DSP racist compliations needs to be addressed more.
Door knocking on his neighbours and asking them what they think would be new and interesting, hell asking local door dash drivers what they think about that one house they go to over and over would also be new.
We need to see inside his home, we need to see the garage at the mountains of doordash bags and fast food crap he leaves rotting there.

Sure followed on Twitter.
Feel free to ask any questions you might have about the Vortex at large.
We don't need another DSP documentary.
Disagree.
DSP should have as many documentaries made about him as possible.

If this propels him into more eyes, more people can see who he is. The Vortex in itself is an interesting symbiotic part of this part of the internet.
Yes, WE know who he is- but the rest of the internet does not.

Will this make him more of a victim? I doubt it, but I hope it tames more spergy parts of the Vortex.

I've got something for you to chew on, @mikeclum

You said that you've spoken to Phil on the phone, multiple times. That's actually somewhat surprising. Do you know who else wanted to speak to DSP on the phone? Keemstar. But of course, that didn't happen.

Why not? Well.. Phil claims that he gave Keemstar very specific timeframes in which he can contact him via phone, and Keemstar did not contact him within these timeframes. Phil didn't specify, but for example, between Phil's day stream and night stream, during which Phil tells us that he is constantly running around the house doing odd errands. Keemstar claims that he did call Phil during this time, and Phil would not answer the phone. Phil denies this.

So I'd ask you, how easy was it to get a hold of Phil on the phone?

After the SideScrollers interview, which Keemstar was a part of, Phil's chat asked him why he would not set aside time to speak to Keemstar on the phone, when Keem was offering life-changing money, for someone like DSP, who routinely begs for money to buy groceries. Phil told his audience, that it didn't matter, because phone calls to discuss business matters are illegitimate, and exactly how someone gets scammed.

Keemstar wants to speak to Phil? Obviously, he wants to scam him. But Mike Clum wants to speak to Phil? Let's do it multiple times, behind the scenes, of course.

The obvious semantical reply to this, something which DSP loves, would be to say, "Keemstar's discussion would have involved money. Mike's did not." However, Phil claims, during the interview, that he was unaware that Keemstar wanted to offer him money. This means that it is 100% hypocritical for Phil to speak on the phone with you, but not with Keemstar, when both are offering him sort of oppurtunity.

So why would Phil speak to you, but not Keemstar? It couldn't be that Keemstar has exposed him for begging for money from his audience, and then blowing it all on mobile games, could it?

In your brief contact with DSP, he has already been a massive hypocrite.

Phil, likely, believes that he can fool you into believing his lies, and use your documentary to control the narrative around how he is perceived online, and this is the only reason why Phil has chosen to stay in contact with you.

Also ask yourself, why did Phil say that Turkey Tom was intelligent, non-negative, and and well-intended, up until the other day, where he completely 180'd, now claiming that Tom's documentary was detractor propaganda, all coordinated by Keemstar, in an attempt to get Phil to do Keem's bidding. And why did he do the same with the SideScrollers?

DSP should have as many documentaries made about him as possible.
Although I don't like it personally, this is a fair point.

Yes, WE know who he is- but the rest of the internet does not.
I would disagree here. Over one million people have seen Turkey Tom's video. If Mike's video doesn't for sure contain IRL footage of Phil, it wouldn't be too disimiliar to Tom's.

Childhood seems like a big "who cares." To be fair, I'd likely say this about someone who was famous as well. 100%. If I ever watch a documentary video, the "childhood segment" is something I almost always skip. Unless they almost died, or something equally as shocking happened, I don't care.

"Phil's mom smoked a lot, and his dad took him to the arcade while studying for night school!" - Who gives a single fuck?

It's why I don't think we need another documentary; unless you get unrestricted access to the secrets. Get his parents, John and Rambo, and Leanna, and any other "secrets" that we obviously know just don't have Phil admitting to. Otherwise what are we gonna have; a rehash of everything we know and "Phil denies these allegations." Well no fucking shit, thank you for repeating the obvious. And people need to remember, Leanna brought friends over, and Phil hid out in his office instead of being a good host/boyfriend. Why would anyone think he'd welcome an unknown with a camera and agenda into the house.

I'm sorry, but I don't think an interview with Phil is gonna happen. I'd love for it to happen, but here's the problem. Phil has setup a walled garden around his personal life and his curated content to give the idea that his life rocks and that his content is super amazing. Allowing someone into his home will break this. Phil lets everyone know that he's in a happy, loving marriage, but he knows that his wife's a fat pig and he's in a loveless marriage that exists out of convivence for both parties. Phil gives off the idea that he lives a normal, yet busy adult life, but he knows that he's a shut-in loser who only leaves the house to go shopping or go to the garbage dump (he visits that place more times in a year than most people do in their lifetime). He gives off the idea that he works hard, provides great content, and is super busy and doesn't have time to do video editing, when in reality his content sucks, is below standard amongst his peers, and his free time when not shopping or at the dump consists of him and his wife sitting in silence while she plays games or watches some non-Phil streamers, while he has his nose in his phone and swipes his credit card nonstop to win at WWE Champions.

A Boogie style documentation would reveal all this to you super quick and would destroy his walled garden once shown to the world. He's at least smart enough to not break his grift. And as other have said, you've ruined the idea by posting here since Phil doesn't want a fair documentary providing all sides, he'd just want one sucking his cock non-stop where you can't ambush him with questions or reveal his personal life.

@mikeclum

I want to ask you who you're making this documentary for. Is it the casuals/normies who may not be entirely aware of Phil? I'd say anyone who's interested in checking out lolcow content on the internet is already aware of "The Guy". Whether as the guy from TIHYDP, the guy who jacked off on stream, or just a horrible let's player, they already know who Phil is. There really isn't any new ground being covered here. Meanwhile those in the vortex have 20+ years of lore established. Any interview that covers the history of DSP will be met with rehashed stories and some retcons from Phil "no I did not cry like a bitch and lock myself in the bathroom when challenged to a fight", "no I did not kill T in cold blooded murder", and other lies.

This is why a lotta people are telling you to get inside his house or to involve his former associates. It's the only meaningful piece of DSP lore that has been denied to his viewers and one that he can't easily control to spin into his side.

Good luck convincing Phil to sit down with you for an interview the way Boogie did. Not to be rude here just being sincere. Phil is waaaay more paranoid and antisocial than Boogie and will probably flake on you after leading you on with several emails worth of ‘maybe’s. (since doesn’t have the balls to be firm even when dealing with his own fans)

That said even if Phil himself doesn’t work out, if you could get people formerly in Phil’s life like Leanna to talk I’d watch it.

Don’t bother with, or trust:
Iveega
Chillmurray
Doody
ReviewTech
Suprcrzy
ItsaGundam
And I’m sure there’s a lot more. But they are the biggest REEtards to avoid.
Second both this and what @Lei Wulong's Left Leg said If you do make the mistake of making this "documentary" do no talk to these people and ignore them if they contact you. They either do not care about the facts enough to actually get them right and just want to say shit that sounds funny or have a vested (ie: FINANCIAL) interest in making DSP seem more interesting/wacky/insane/etc. than he actually is. As @clothes in my closet and others have said, unless you are going to get the same access to DSP as you got to boogie (which you will not) this video will be nothing more than a waste of time. DSP is not interested in wallowing in pity porn/bucks like Boogie is an will resist any and all attempts for you to portray him as on the downhill. So what you will get is nothing but lies and deceit from "working with him".

I guess I'll throw in a list of tractors I think you should talk to if you're going to do this anyway:
-Almighty_Tevin (probably won't talk to you)
-AN1337
-ALTInsider
-LyteSydeBill
- @Agent Proper
-Fred Fuchs (for the humor value)
I don't know any of these people and have never spoken with them. I've just seen enough of their content to trust what they say about DSP because they usually have video evidence of what they are talking about. If you can't figure out how to contact them that's not my problem.

I dunno if Mikes gonna read this, but I have 1 word of advice, be aware of falling to pig-nosis. A couple of years back, I decided I was gonna only watch Phil’s pre-stream podcast and get to know who he was without all the detractor noise. And I’ll be honest, I started to sympathize and almost threw a few bucks his way. Phil really knows how to sell himself as an underdog. I wanted to see him succeed and pull himself out of the hole that he put himself in. It was only because of the Leanna hospital shit that I snapped out of it.

As far as what I would want to see in a deep dive doc, try to figure out what the secret sauce is to the detractor community and our obsession with Phil.

Really, we are a larger community that Wings and boogies. And despite that we don’t send hookers to his house. Tow his car and all of the other bullishit, but here we are just the same. He’s not as entertaining as those two, he’s genuinely and unlikable POS, and we hardly poke the bear.

Even though we don’t do any of that crazy trolling, we still have people leaking his bank docs, pouring over his bankruptcy docs, paying for sex with his sister in law. These are things never done with Boogie or Wings, or anyone else for that matter.

What makes Phil so interesting that he has all of our attention. Not to power level, but I’m about the same age as Phil, I have full life, with a family and a career. I have an an entire list of shit to occupy me, but I will still dedicate 10 minutes of my day to see what is going on with Phil nearly every day. And it’s been years.

However you decide to do this doc. Make it interesting, make us feel something, .

Also go talk to the guy who does the WPIG deep dives into the old internet days of Phil, he’s interviewed a lot of the old FGC folks who have known who he was before he became the Phil we know today.
