Add another to the pile: once sponsor Loot Crate was usually "a bunch of junk! It was hard for me to unbox it and not laugh at what was in there!"

Strangely, that didn't stop him from promoting them and using their code to make money for almost 3 years until they dropped him.

...March 2017? Um scroll back? Do a keyword search? Make a Thread? It's 2019...marked the post as 'late'...by well over 800+ days?

Those quotes were from tonight. The image is for context. Stop trying to be a mod.

Sorry, do you think this is Something Awful?

dsp really loves to bite the hand that feeds don't he? and he wonders why people stopped doing business with him, you can't trust him to have an ounce of respect for a dead company, sure loot crate was awful but they bothered to give you money at least try and be amicable so other companies will say "hmm this person seems pretty agreeable, we'd love to do business with them"

The Minecraft stream Phil had tonight ended interesting.
There was a tip versus bit war for the privilege to name something in his world.
Another thing that is against TOS and not a smart thing for Phil to be doing when he was just featured in several news sites.

Usage Guidelines

Two ground rules to orient your Bits experience. Keep these principles in mind whether you are a creator, viewer, or any other party:

Bits are not a money instrument

Bits are digital content intended to be purchased and consumed on Twitch, and do not serve as a currency.

Bits cannot be directly exchanged for items or services of value

Don’t engage in an exchange of Bits for items or services that typically are associated with a cost or value. Communities can gather to achieve a goal that unlocks a benefit or experience for the community (explained further below). Creators can also announce benefits in response to individual Cheers, however, in each of those scenarios, the activity does not provide a return of anything of value.

Now the Don’ts that constitute violations of this policy:

  • Don’t solicit Bits in exchange for money or donations, and don’t request money or donations for Bits.
  • Don’t provide items, or specific services, that are associated with a monetary value in exchange for Bits.
  • Using Bits as a bet or wager or soliciting or accepting Bits for a bet or wager.

  • Optimistic

I've gone round and round with some on here about this. I agree with you that it seems to be a TOS violation, but given that nothing's happened, I guess Twitch doesn't care. It more or less boils down to what constitutes a "service" associated with a monetary value. I can see the argument that naming something (or having something built) in Minecraft has no monetary value, but I really don't see how comparing bits to hard USD via tips isn't making the bits a currency/money instrument.

Oh no I'm aware nothing will happen.
I just wanted to point out their TOS, and show they're hypocrites. I'm sure they leave a lot of the things on in vague so they can pick and choose, which is kind of common anyway.
Stupidity on my end to care about it, I've stared into the abyss too deep lately.

I'm with you that it's really scummy, if for no other reason that the end-of-auction time is constantly moving. A lot of people do charity streams and the like with rewards, but they'll always give a set time that they end. Phil, no no, he'll get a tip at the "end of the stream" because he can't go late, then stall for 5 minutes to get another slightly higher tip, then stall a bit more and say "last chance for contributions" and then someone cheers to win. It's blatantly against the concept of this shitty auction and both of those tippers would have grounds for a chargeback as they didn't receive what they were promised.

Speaking of Minecraft, Phil is doing a day stream of it for the explicit purpose of "fundraising" on October 1. That's in addition to the "fundraising" during the ALREADY PAID FOR "retrospective".

This level of begging is why I don't buy the "he's actually fine" narrative. He would take way more days off and wouldn't be doing shit like playing Minecraft (which he still plainly doesn't like).

It's insanely scummy, but Phil always does it and it always works out, with no sign of stopping.

I'm so confused about those tippers however, they act like trolls so I often wonder if a chargeback saga will happen eventually.
The guy donating today, Phrenelith is heaving_earth. That dude throws quite a bit of money at Phil but always seems like a utter retard.

i just don't buy that he's in debt, phil knows he can't do this forever and is likely saving up a sort of retirement fund, we can't take his word on anything since he's more than willing to lie to line his pockets

he's been letting it slip more and more that chargebacks happen and he loses them, from my memory he used to claim he never lost a chargeback and kept the money, then he claimed he lost ONE, then after that claimed he never lost any. recently i've heard him let it slip that he loses chargebacks, i think this was when something got mentioned about detractors knowing how much he makes. but then more recently he said he doesn't lose chargebacks because he makes a disclaimer that he isn't obligated to read trolling messages.

all in all I think phil is very secretive and lying about his experience with chargebacks so people don't get any ideas

the charge backs are probably what he is busy with most days

Heaving was in superblindmans stream yesterday and gave him $125 too

He's not exactly some overachieving hard worker. I think he would take far more days off if he could, and I think he would have taken some (publicly admitted to) trips into Seattle with Kat as well. The fact that he doesn't signals to me that there's at least some validity to the debt argument.

I love the work you do, and there's some validity to the debt argument but it's more a fundraising technique than a reality.

Not much to say about tonight's Minecraft stream. It was more bland and uneventful than usual. The entirety was spent constructing a cobblestone building (villager spawner) as per Mr. Papaveraceae's instructions. The first half of the stream had "incredibly slow contributions", with $60 coming in the last ten minutes from handicappedgamerer, phrenelith, and phillips_smelly_chair. Not so much the usual over-the-top attention-grabbing antics from Phil. Perhaps mellow due to his day off tomorrow. He kept stressing that once the time is up, he is shutting off the stream. No lingering around for further donations. I wonder what he had planned.

He finally spent many of his 41 levels of XP on recovering from a stupid error when he used his enchanted bow in order to craft a dispenser. The highlight I think was when he had to scold Phrenelith for his request for Phil to construct another cobblestone cock after a $30.01 tip. He had to adjust his usual buddy-buddy perceived relationship with the whale to lay down the law.

Real talk, what will the concentration of donations be like?
Really nice of you to be so psychic.
More paid streaming services [1:08}
In a rare move, we went out to eat.
I really need the help, I'm very afraid - to answer your question, Phrenelith *hint hint*

The silent majority who don't speak up for fear of being attacked by trolls [1:16]
DSP woman wooing advice response.
Greta Thunberg and preposterous Sweden.
Stop being so bloody modest.
Fishing for food and items he doesn't need and won't use logic.
Laptop (piece of garbage that barely works) layout.

How do you see your Minecraft playthrough ending?
I'm never ready to be in The Nether, ever [1:13]
Kill every passive NPC for a day's wage? NO.

Would it be possible to open a thread for your breakdowns? Just to have something easier to go through
The trouble is I only make posts for fun and might stop at any time, or due to life events prohibiting it. Also there's no guarantee the file-sharing website I use to host the audio files will be around in the long-run, so a isolated thread might become a shell down the line. I have a few thoughts for threads, and will articulate them sometime later to see what people think about them. One idea offhand is a thread documenting Phil's expenses like the extensive paid subscription services.
