I believe Harambes zoo asked people to stop flooding their contact lines with Harambes memes and to stop making what was, to them, a tragedy into a joke. This is a pretty reasonable request to make even if it will never happen.
Folks like Kiva Bay have declared this as an extension of online harassment and stalking, am example of how terrible meme culture is, and so on. It's basically a way to bring up the fact that they hate memes.

Quinn's clique, once the very reason for his white knighting, considered him Persona Non Grata over a year ago after he sperged hard enough to be labelled a liability. He alienated his old pre-Twitter friends ages ago, and the only ones who tolerate him now are his fellow reality-denying derilicts who used to drift with the "cool kids" crowd. Despite being labelled a degenerate by them, he continues to carry their water as if it actually mattered to them. He parrots their talking points, even as he is aware he will never be anything more than a useful asset his "friends" long since written off as an operational casualty.

The Starbound audience was EXTREMELY hostile at the beginning of 2014 too, and Chucklefish still made a shit load of cash and exited early release with an acceptable product.

Shows what I know, but yeah, point stands: they knew their product was good because of all the time and energy they spent on it, but the similarities between David and them boys end there, because when people bitched about their products
- Chucklefish probably (obviously!) fixed things that people hated while remaining true to their vision
- Dave whined and whined, let his pride get in the way of making changes and refused to compromise at all.
