You cut the overall crew size, it's a nightmare for maintainance and watchstanding. You might be able to combine certain watches in the engine room, but the overall maintainance is going to remain pretty much the same along with the number of people you need in the engine room at any given time. So fewer crew members, longer and more frequent watches. And sometimes we have to fix stuff that might take us over 24 hours of work. On a larger crewed ship, you can shuffle around the watch bill to get people some sleep.

Burke boys have over 250 sailors and talk to any of them, their work load is tough because they don't have enough people. The Zoomies have 175. I used to be an LPO of an engine room in the navy. I seriously don't know how I could keep a propulsion plant running with just 25-35 people.

Yeah but its getting old. Piggie doesnt even bring anything new to the table, at least the Chieftain had that gimmick that he was a real tank commander.

The Bovington Tank Museum is extremely profit driven with the preservation of tanks being more of a secondary concern. It's really no surprise.

The T-72 section of the video is so fucking wrong. Nearly everything is a combination of half truths and schizophrenic rantings and lies. It's good to see lazerpig hasn't changed.

Why is he still repeating that myth from his T-34 vid? Is he just going to pretend that the Soviets never standardized production on anything whatsoever?

Part of the whole magic behind the T-72 is that:
  • It was cheaper than the T-64 and the Soviets would actually be able to get export sales
  • Parts WERE standardized.
  • 40 ish ton range, able to traverse European bridges with ease
  • Since it was standardized and simple to make, ANY country could make it, as seen by Iraq

The T-64 and the T-72 were always a high low mix. The T-64 was the top line tank once they worked out the engine issues while the T-72 was a cheaper alternative. Look at where they ended up. Most of the T-64s were in guards tank units while the T-72s were used in reserve units and motor rifle units as infantry support.
