This is an unpopular opinion, but I actually don't like Batman: Year One movie, mostly from an adaptation standpoint. Every actor is directed to be monotone, but because they don't have transatlantic accents, they don't sound tense, but bored most of the time. Also, the movie seems like the color saturation is too high for a comic known for using black a lot, so I keep thinking they're using the same animation software as Young Justice when it needs to look more like season 1 TAS or rougher.

I do think it's better than Batman Begins though.
I absolutely hate that movie myself. The comic is one of my all time favorites and it's a case of they had a really close script but missed the mark entirely.

they also fucked up the entire structure of cutting between Bruce and Gordon to compare and contrast them by making their scenes and dialogue go one after the other instead of cutting between them line by line or whatever, which to be fair to the movie makes more sense in a movie structure but it just doesn't work the same. case in point, the very beginning when Bruce is on a plane and Jim is on a train, the cut between their monologues showing their different views (literally) of Gotham as they arrive just plays entirely differently when they're one after the other instead of cutting between the two.

the animation also just does not work or look good, and the acting is weird, I don't know how else to describe the performances besides weird, they sound terrible. idk I personally think it's one of the worst Batman movies, partially because it just sucks and partially because it's a huge missed opportunity and the script really tried.

It's a little like Gunn's Superman in a weird way - both try to wrap it up in the tropes they think fans want but that doesn't actually make it good. Superman - make it bright and have a big monster, the fans will love it. Batman - have everyone speak slowly and use dark tones, the fans will love it.

As to Supergirl, are we going to find out her parents gave her a similar mission to have as many kids with the Earthlings as possible like they did her cousin? Eh, I'm guessing Gunn wont reference the message here. Though logically it would apply just as much. Maybe that's why she keeps getting blackout drunk.

And my belief that the “No Kryptonians” rule was a good thing is further validated.
i know there is some retarded answer, but wouldn't superman be more at home around kryptonians? has there ever been a "superman among the kryptonians" that writes it like how every black person talks about visiting africa for the first time? i know the answer will be no, but that's an easy layup for a plot.

in general you'd think with the whole mental health angle of the modern era writers would focus more on it. every "-american" has a story about how going to the country of their ancestors changed their life, but DC somehow missed doing that?

i can look up on youtube and easily find thousands of videos of adopted Chinese people talking about the trauma of being adopted by some midwest boomers, but no one wants to write that for superman?

New Krypton from 2010 has the Superman in awe of his homeland and people thing in the beginning but by the end of it he's fighting them bc Zod and his followers ofc wants to take over earth.

It's sort of what you're talking about but doesn't really portray it the way you mean beyond the first little bit before Zod's people start fucking about and questioning why Superman has been here for 30 years and didn't just turn it into Krypton and he of course wants both worlds to coexist

I really hate Krypto being this small scraggly mutt and the Tom King thing of him being another thing Kara as a character steals from Clark.

Yes, it’s funny when Superman’s dog is scrappy and Batman’s dog is a good boy. It’s not funny when Krypto is an ill-behaved cur.

If they fuck up Lobo I will commit a war crime
Just wait until they cast Nicolas Cage to play him because he was Ghost Rider.
I admit the only Supergirl thing I ever saw was the 80s movie, where she was all sweet and the opposite of this:

I'm more familiar with the CW show. While it's far from perfect, it still nails the kind nature of Supergirl.

Also, Melissa Benoist has great taste in movies.

I want to believe in a scenario where they write the movie as shit modern Lobo and Cage method acts too hard into 90s Lobo, then THE MAIN MAN demands the movie be about HIM

Jason Mamoa - Aquachad - is the one who will play Lobo. Not the worst choice as he genuinely seems excited about the opportunity and he gets the dudebro vibe.

I know this is probably a joke, but I like having Kara around. If DC didn’t handle her so terribly, she should be on the same level as Robin as side character that can easily be the main. Powergirl really should have eventually been her breakaway from Supes similar to Nightwing, rather than the convoluted alternate dimension story.

In saying this, she needs the Krypton origin. The others just overcomplicate her and her relationship to Clark. The main story of her being sent to take care of him, only for the reverse to happen is an interesting characterization, plus she adds someone who knows about Krypton and can share some things about his lost culture. In terms of adaptations, Injustice surprisingly handled her well, having her take over Clark’s role as the beacon of hope.

Not sure yet. I need to see more. But borderline girl boss woke vibes.
Alright the main event…

It looks so generic. It is like a generic Guardians film in terms of visuals, nothing too standout with boring space vehicles.

As for the writing, also seems bad. Kara is going to lack the charm of better versions, including even the CW, which at least had a fun actress. Usually I view Kara as a more jokey, over-confident Superman, or a more punk rock rebellious tomboy type. Not a big fan of the train wreck, I can see lazy, but drunk party girl feels off.

I do not and have never liked Kara, unlike Robin she brings nothing unique as a sidekick and her kit is Clark’s only weaker. Her mere existence undoes his “Last Son” title and makes him being the “child of two worlds” less unique.

I hate any kryptonians surviving that aren’t Zod’s chucklefucks because they have the exact same abilities. I prefer the “Legacy of Krypton” to be scattered among ghosts and flawed inheritors.

A son who never lived a day on the doomed world, a solider with no nation, an exhibit in the collection of a madman, a program that cannot understand it’s existence is irrelevant and an echo of a dead scientist. Lost, scattered and each possessed of one piece of the dead world.

Kara ruins that.

I think we can already tell the story. She came from Krypton with a mission, fucked it all up by partying and getting too close to the humans (LOTR style 'Gandalf smoked too much pipeweed' and got weak, with her it'll be booze and 80s music) fights generic bad guys, the dog gets hurt, her eyes are opened to 'The Truth', she does some giant CGI battle at the end and realizes how she's destined to be a hero.

So it's not going to be the always perfect girl boss of Ms Marvel and so on M-She-U but Gunn's 'subversion' with some kind of arc. I'm far from an expert on her at all, and even most Superman lore beyond the big Reeve/Returns/Snyder movies and general tropes, but the trailer just lays that out so obviously.
