I absolutely hate that movie myself. The comic is one of my all time favorites and it's a case of they had a really close script but missed the mark entirely. This is an unpopular opinion, but I actually don't like Batman: Year One movie, mostly from an adaptation standpoint. Every actor is directed to be monotone, but because they don't have transatlantic accents, they don't sound tense, but bored most of the time. Also, the movie seems like the color saturation is too high for a comic known for using black a lot, so I keep thinking they're using the same animation software as Young Justice when it needs to look more like season 1 TAS or rougher.
I do think it's better than Batman Begins though.
they also fucked up the entire structure of cutting between Bruce and Gordon to compare and contrast them by making their scenes and dialogue go one after the other instead of cutting between them line by line or whatever, which to be fair to the movie makes more sense in a movie structure but it just doesn't work the same. case in point, the very beginning when Bruce is on a plane and Jim is on a train, the cut between their monologues showing their different views (literally) of Gotham as they arrive just plays entirely differently when they're one after the other instead of cutting between the two.
the animation also just does not work or look good, and the acting is weird, I don't know how else to describe the performances besides weird, they sound terrible. idk I personally think it's one of the worst Batman movies, partially because it just sucks and partially because it's a huge missed opportunity and the script really tried.
