It's just that it's really fun to shit on the movie, this one just deserves it more than others for many reasons.
Sadly I can't do the same here. It's pretty much the same exact thing as most other modern day blockbusters that are either capeshit or based on IPs that mostly try to ape Disney as they are easy targets. See, a lot of people can totally shit on The Room, Fateful Findings, Birdemic, Ben & Arthur, Manos, After Last Season, Miami Connection, The Amazing Bulk, Samurai Cop, Battlefield Earth, Disaster Movie and Jack & Jill because at least these respective filmmakers had tried to make actual movies, even if the final products of said either movies ended up being total shit at the end of the day. This cannot be the same with most movies that are based on IPs which mostly are just more infomercials and less story.

I've spotted that on the /tv/ boards and I laughed so loud. This has to be a cutscene for a PS3/XB360 game, not a $220 million budget movie. I'm not surprised however, because studios would rather invest BlackRock money than care about effort. Nigga, even the Transformers movies looked better than this.
Might be worse than the Whedon cut CGI. Apart from the moustache, they had a PS3-tier Superman slugging Steppenwolf for some shots, but it's kind of "blink and you'll miss it", this is like "go to the bathroom with serious diarrhea and you'll miss it".

Reading through the spoilers on Twitter reveals that not only did WB include a "cameo" of the deceased Christopher Reeves but also one of (no relation) George Reeves. When you read up on circumstances of his death, it's on par with Disney having Peter Pan be the villain in the recent Chip 'n Dale movie.
What, too soon? Pardon my tone deafnesses but I don't see the big deal. George Reeves is a tragic but pretty well-liked figure. Not like he Benoit'd his family or anything.

I guess there's the aspect that Jimmy said he thought it wasn't cool, but for all we know they really were lowballing Jimmy and that was him being dignified, but yeah from what I recall George took being The Superman Guy pretty seriously (like kissing babies, not getting busted for urinating on hookers, normal good guy stuff) so his massively sus death probably colors what he wanted to be seen as to a point that just leaving things be isn't a crazy idea

I honestly don't think West would have had an issue as long as he got a paycheck, he was absolutely fine with "lol adam west amirite" even back to the late 90s AOL ads that portrayed him as in a nuthouse and referring to the orderly like he was Robin

I'm on the minority of people who actually unironically liked the "Snyderverse" films I didn't mind the DCU taking a more serious or even edgy approach to distance themselves from the more kid friendly MCU. But WB really dropped the ball even after firing Snyder and "course correcting" its clear they never really knew what they were doing.
My only hope is that this film tanks so bad it kills the DCU (and hopefully capeshit in general) for good, maybe I'm biased as I haven't enjoyed a single James Gunn film, so a universe with him at the helm doesn't really interest me

It's weird that the live-action Scooby Doo movies had CG that shockingly age better than most of modern movies 2010s onward. Shit, Son of the Mask still had better CG than most of modern movies 2010s onward.
The Flash just looks like a fucking PS3/XB360 video game and it's sad.

Is it true that adjusted for inflation Flash had a worse opening than Green Lantern?

Someone I know told me this but he's kind of a fandom menace fag so it's hard for me to take him seriously.

Either way, time to pump the fucking brakes on James Gunns DCCU. Absolutely nobody cares or wants it, and nobody is fooled by the bullshit influncer/celebrity marketing that tried to push Flash as being good.

DC needs a 10 year minimum cooling off period, this shit is worse than Batman and Robin.

Not even close. Besides, Green Lantern was a failed attempt to kickstart its own DC cinematic universe, causing Warner to retool it with Man of Steel. The Flash is part of the same DC universe, and that universe has been struggling for years. Green Lantern's opening is much worse, even in 9inflation.

Not even close.
Green Lantern grossed 53.2 million it's opening weekend.

Flash grossed 55.1 million.

So without actually checking the inflation, and without waiting for todays numbers like I've seen some in the media say we need to do cause Coonteenth makes it a "holiday weekend", I'm going to guess it's pretty pretty close.

I'd also argue that Green Lantern trying to kickstart a cinematic universe somehow making it worse is a strange argument, as Flash had numerous reshoots and delays for what was basically the final film in an already failed and dead cinematic universe.

If Green Lantern was worse than Flash is by far dumber waste of money. Is that the middle ground we can all agree on?

Every DC movie has flopped, maybe not Aquaman, but that one was because of the cockroach eaters so doesn't count.

But they still keep doing those massive flops anyway. There's no hope, capeshit will exist forever.

This is exactly what I said, but you explained it better actually.

Sure, capeshit is going to exist, but like smelly toxic waste), that doesn't mean the trend will be here forever. I'd argue that the superhero subgenre will fade to obscurity the same as classical westerns, but nobody will know when. Only time could tell.

I'll never understand how they could have done their animation so perfectly in the 90's and 2000's, and even arguably up to today

But still manage to bomb with actual films so fucking hard.

Like, even diehard MCU fans think nobody gave a shit about Iron Man until the MCU, so I'm supposed to assume that DC fails because nobody gives a shit about Superman and Batman?

But seriously. DC has become the solid has-been or cheap copy of Marvel in pop culture when it comes to any superhero discourse unless it's about Batman. DC can't write anything not-Batman to save their lives after decades obsessing on grim and gritty street-level vigilantism since Watchmen and TDKR in '86. Now it's finally paid off in the worst way the past decade as their attempt at a cinematic universe, THE way Marvel re-ignited themselves as a genuine pop culture staple for zoomers and millennials, didn't just fall flat but actively harmed themselves not just with those groups, but young children. They don't know how to write superpowered-heroes anymore because they bought into the memes of the Justice League charter members being "OP as fuck" instead of just using a cross of "strong as they need to be" with plots that aren't immediate high stakes reflecting that. They don't know how to write optimistic personalities anymore because they've been obsessed with being the "mature" option against Marvel, which is especially funny considering Marvel was originally THAT against DC in the 60s to mid 80s. They don't even know any solo hero's "world" intimately outside Batman and end up crossing them all over sooner or more uselessly than expected versus the rich tapestry they provided Batman with so he can safely be the only hero in any given series.
they were both considered nerd shit up until the MCU blew up, marvel was just smarter at planning it out and have some level of quality - and helped they kickstarted it so were the first. these days I doubt anyone gives a shit about either of them, some marvel capeshit still does ok numbers (still far from it's heyday) because it's mostly sequels to already established and liked characters. ant-man without the first two movies would have done way worse, fuck even the WE WUZ faggotry in movie form didn't make a billion.
batman is also basically marvel's spiderman, the one hero everybody knows and recognizes, and same reason he gets constantly rebooted, just like spiderman. ironically this also extends to the villains, but that's just the effect of using those same heroes (the only other one is thanos, because he got built up over 10 fucking years. anyone else gets killed in the movie they show first up in).

the other thing is that DC isn't marvel. admittedly I'm a pleb when it comes to capeshit, but one I've seen it explained was "marvel for the heroes, DC for the villains", which means any attempt of being just like the MCU was doomed from the start.
justice league simply looks less interesting, not to mention the possible powerlevel is still of the charts with flash and supes alone (sure avengers got a literal god, but even that won't make the difference). instead have a more recurring villain. yeah sure the heroes are supposed to win in the end, but there's zero reason to have the villain killed off - saturday morning cartoons get away with that shit constantly, and there are plenty of people who know those villains for a reason instead of cannon fodder #327

can't remember where I said it before but for the same reason any flash or supes movie would be pretty boring for the average MCU slop enjoyed who just wants people in costume punch things. what's the point when you have a character that can literally outrun everything, even fucking time, and someone who is invincible and can shoot lasers with his eyes, who would you pair him off against (inb4 kryptonite plot #473)? that's one of the reasons they go with batman since it's a lot more grounded hero. the only one left is wonder woman, an amazon with a lasso that makes people tell the truth (and gal gadot didn't even bring the dommy-mommy energy), now compare that to scarjo in iron man 2...

I'll never understand how they could have done their animation so perfectly in the 90's and 2000's, and even arguably up to today

like everything, money and effort. or the culmination of it: SOVL

superman will always be one of the biggest superheroes, if not the biggest - but that doesn't necessarily translate into interest or a way monetize it in the MCU way.

EDIT: was looking for something else, but got reminded this goes over it quite well:

James Gunn had nothing to do with this or the upcoming Blue Beetle movie. He's writing a Superman movie, but all the stuff he's supposed to working on hadn't come out yet. I did see someone suggest that they dump Blue Beetle and the next Aquaman movie on HBO Max so it doesn't poison the well for Gunn's efforts, but Warner's is dealing with a lot of debt and releasing the movies to theaters at least allows them to bring in some money.

Yeah, I know

They should still pump the brakes on his shit, because it's clear as fucking crystal that nobody is interested in DC at all and the well is poisoned is my point. On top of that, there is already Superhero fatigue and I don't think James Gunn has nearly the amount of popularity these executives think he does. The Suicide Squad was a flop if I remember correctly.

Then again, whoever the fuck owns this shit now (WB? Discover? Fuck if I know) seem dead set on wasting money since apparently this hunk of shit needed to be released to earn back *some* money even though they spent more money reshooting a new ending with every regime change.

Gunn announced on his twitter that he ordered "emergency reshoots" of every film still in production, when he first took over, but I don't know how extensive those were. For example in Shazam 2 I'm pretty sure his only input was to add his wife's cameo at the end, and maybe the microwave baby scene in Flash, but thats a big "maybe"

I knew Flash would flopped but did not expect a $55 million bad, this is going to end up grossing less than Black Adam now, going to be a battle to get past $300 million. WB should lose $200 million easy on this now.

Give or take really. There's not even a chance in hell where it can break even worldwide. It's further proof that aside from most Batman movies (this includes Joker), which have proven to be more successful as respective standalone movies, DC is not good with kickstarting their own universes. Batgirl has long been cancelled, Blue Beetle is already dumped in mid-August where most kids are back at school, and The Flash is already written off as a flop (as with BvS, Justice League, Birds of Prey, WW1984, the Suicide Squad duology, Black Adam and the recent Shazam sequel), even a few years before its actual release. Warner should just cut their losses and move on.
