My favourite Superman story has very odd structure. It's a told mostly from Lex's and The Question's point of view, with Superman largely observed from outside. It's weirdly mystical / illuminati-ish / esoteric . Wish I could remember the name of it and searching "superman the question comic" doesn't exactly help.

It's also quite good at showing how you might threaten the man of steel and exploit weaknesses he doesn't even know he had. Lois is great in it as well including a little bit at the end between Question and Clark which I wont spoil.

If anybody knows the comic, let me know!
It's The Question by Rick Veitch from 2004/2005. I read it like a year ago. The ideological conflict between Superman and the Question in that comic is hilarious. Superman keeps giving Vic a chance to just stop what he's doing and he just ignores him and continues being a deranged psychopath because he's trying to save him anyways.

Ah, thank you! I may actually see if I can track down and buy a copy now. Yes, I loved how Superman is essentially low-key telling the Question to fuck the fuck off and the Question just keeps on going like some kind of brilliant idiot. And I like the whole shamanistic weird worldview going on in the Question's head.

If I could write one movie script and be guaranteed through some magic power it could be anything I wanted and still get turned into a big budget movie, I think I would write a movie with The Question as the viewpoint character. I heard someone condemn the character as "an Ayn Rand Objectivist" once and I don't know quite why but I've loved the character ever since. The animated JLU version (it was JLU right?) just cemented that.

It's because the Question was created to be just that. It's a toned down version of Ditko's other creation Mr.A and he was a staunch Objectivist and used those characters to explore some of that stuff. Denny O'Neil in the 80's reinvented Question as a Zen warrior guy in his run which essentially was just his soapbox comic where he went over whatever social issues he was interested in at the time. That's a good run too, but the question tends to be reinvented every time he shows up.

If half the rumors about the James Gunn DCU are true, I wouldn't be shocked if Superman's legacy flops as hard as the flash. Zack Synder DCEU will end up becoming liked better the same ways Star Wars prequels were after Disney Star Wars at this rate. DC on film died after the firing of Henry Cavill.

Blue Beetle is part of James Gunns DCU?

I'm so fucking confused at this shit at this point.
Join the club.

In all fairness, Blue Beetle had a much lower budget than The Flash. There is a chance, not a big one, but still a chance, it'll make its money back. We'll have to see.

At this rate I'd settle for Superman's movie being good and reviving interest in him as a big-time hero a la Spidey and Batman, but I'm not holding my breath with superhero fatigue clearly in swing.

For me, my expectations for a Superman movie has been lower than rock bottom itself. There hasn't actually been a good Superman movie since the second movie back in 1981. And no, DTV animated movies do not count.

Another thing to keep in mind about the DC films coming out this year is that they were made before Gunn was the new head of DC. The most he did was give notes for random scenes.

However if Superman Legacy onward begin to bomb, that would be concerning for the future of the DC brand.

Will say tho that it is funny that Snyder tards have cuck related fantasies relating to people involved in capeshit

The second-worst opening for a DeeCee film to date.

But no worries, WB already has 10 more DeeCee films on the line. Everyone loathes those unwatchable films but you'll never have another option to watch in theaters and you'll be happy.

Yes, it is part of his DCU, as it doesn't do anything that needs to be reconned with his plans.

But the movie itself was done before he took over the DCU, and the whole part of his DCU is more marketing than anything. Now the movie flopped, won't be a follow-up, and who knows if Blue Beetle will be a supporting character in anything else.

Unless, and maybe this is sounding too optimistic here, Disney and WB finally kill off capeshit bullshit in response to the ongoing Writer/SAG strikes

I watched reviews from a small YouTube channel called Geekvolution. This guy looks and acts like the stereotypes the red letter media crew makes fun of. He was a white guy that got offended by all the Mexican characters acting like stereotypes, like them naming cars tacos. Yet at the same time, the Blue Beetle movie compares the bad guys to ICE and taking away blue beetle armor would like deportation.

Man, here is my personal history with the snyderverse ...Sometimes I go back and think about the time before BvS, when I still had hopes for DC movies. I remember reading the prequel comics and loving it so much, downloading podcasts about the movie to hear when I cane back home after watching it.

And then I went to the cinema, and the first 40 minutes I thought: man this is boring and every thing gets worse. I really like Superman and I remember the sensation of desecration on the screen. When I left I was livid, listened to various podcasts for 8 hours after and malded in my head.

Then the ultimate cut came out and I thought: maybe they fixed the movie (I never rewatch capeshit), and with every minute I realized that it was the same shit but longer.

I guess DC movies died that day for me. To fail like that in the most simple crossover concept ever truly took out my trust.

After that I only watched the first suicide squad, not out of interest but by the sheer curiosity to see why people said it was so bad. It was bad too but not BvS bad.

And then nothing for me. I didnt watch a single DC movie ever since, not even the good ones like joker or the batman. My peak DC was man of steel and I have lots of reservations about that one.

And this isn't even a boomer complaining about muh reeve or anything, I dont like those either, it was about the total murder of superman on screen. Even when I watch reviews about these dc movies as white noise, I still gets surprises to even think that they peaked at Clark first flight scene in the first fucking movie.

that is so sad. And the worst part is that everything that snyder tried to do with superman was already done in the comics by JMS with his Earth One. I JUST WAN MORE SEQUELS DC.

TL;DW: Kinda like Black Adam, it's not really a bad film, just a bit mediocre & generic. Probably a one time watch on the 7 Seas or on wait for a OTT release.
If I'm being honest here, a movie that's boring, forgettable and generic is worse than a typical bad movie. Even a typical bad movie can still be remembered for how much of a trainwreck it is.

I agree, but there's also the factor of a "good" bad film & really BAD bad film (The Flash). This is in the middle, it's way too by-the-books to be either too good or offensively bad (that fascist Batman thing was apparently just a marketing stunt). Again, just like Black Adam, except a little woke in comparison & surprisingly more enjoyable.

Edit: Black ADAM, not Black Panther.

I still think it's shit regardless. But yes, The Flash is much worse. Then again, most of modern movies and TV 2010s onward is just shit.
