Sometimes I think people want their movies to fail.

Blue Beetle was fine, it definitely didn't deserve to perform worse than the Flash. It's weighed down by the first half being racist as shit so you understand they're Hispanic(George Lopez's character calls his Tacoma truck The Taco, and there is a scene with in 5-10 minutes of Jaime eating a taco so close your can see pieces of it in his teeth). After about the midway point they're is a tonal shift and the movie becomes pretty big standard capeshit, which is above average for the Post Endgame wasteland.

Weather and racism blamed for blue beetle flopping.

Ah yes, like I said, people who defended a movie that's so corporate and manipulative and blame it on topical shit and other series of projection by "journos." A tale as old as time. Like how juggalos are pissed about magnets and shit.

Ive said it before ill say it again, The DC movies didn't fail they were sabotaged from within and outside. Deliberately.

The executives were wasting money on shit nobody cared about about, ignoring beloved franchises and are stupid enough to hate Synder on principle when he's a money maker.

Weedon basterdized justice league and wasted millions when he already had a full movie filmed that just needed some CG and touched up editing.

Hollywood critics trashed black adam relentlessly for the same reasons they praise marvel capeshit because the rock ripped their "icon" in half.

And now James is going to sink the ship and leave no survivors. Really, his announcements have been so unquestionably bad it feels even more like overt backstabbing then Weedon. His decisions guaranteed the rest of the movies in the can were going to bomb as opposed to just losing some money.

Look I was surprised enough to say I actually liked Guardians 3 and that's the only slimmer of hope. That gun is still a decent enough filmmaker to make maybe one or two good movies out of this. but even if he makes the best superman movie that he can I dont see this shit saving DC.

For better or worse DC was selling something different then marvel. You can argue that it stood against everything or was the best thing on the planet, but it was a market that had customers. If you take that away and make it another marvel McDonalds then your not only tanking the brand of DC, your killing interest in the overall market

See Disney wants a superhero monopoly, but what Disney doesn't realize is that the customers like variety. If you make every meal the same dam thing its going to get old real fast.

I think this if it hasn't already, will contribute to the superhero crash. It was bound to happen, the trends of the day tend to wax and wain every 20 years or so, but this is not going to help.

Before long the mouse is going to sit on a throne of ashes.

Honestly the issue with the DCEU is of a myriad of things like Snyder having a conflicted vision to what WB wanted (he wanted a grimdark 5 movie series while WB wanted Diet MCU), terrible movies, and rushing hard.

Man of Steel made a decent amount of money which was the best part of what it was trying to do.

Batman v Superman however is where I say things went off the rails since while it earned a lot of money, it pretty much underperformed since WB wanted a billion dollar smash especially since Batman and Superman are the most iconic superheroes.

Suicide Squad (2016) to Shazam made decent money because 2015-2019 were the highest time for Superhero films to make money, though Justice League underperformed due to so much drama and not a lot of investment in the movie. The only movie that even passed the $1 Billion threshold was Aquaman. Though it helped that Aquaman, Shazam, and Wonder woman were movies that did well critically.

However, I think Birds of Prey was the beginning of the end for the DCEU in terms of money. Since this movie had a february release and was rated R when most people who'd watch this movie would be teens. Then it didn't help this movie came out before COVID so that definitely hurt this movie's box office ratings.

Wonder Woman 1984 came during the pandemic, and The Suicide Squad (as much as I think this is the best DCEU film) bombed due to coming out when theatres were slowly reopening and was also R rated so there wasn't much of a widenet.

There was Snyder Cut which was well liked but honestly WB releasing this was a big mistake especially since they never planned to follow up on it which just makes it more confusing for regular people on where the fuck the DCEU was heading.

Black Adam to now were movies that either had behind the scenes drama hamper them hard (like The Rock's bullshit with Black Adam + the Henry Cavill fiasco, and the can of worms surrounding the Flash), or were just decent/mediocre superhero movies that were hit by the new era of superhero fatigue and poor marketing (Shazam 2 and Blue Beetle).

I would also say the announcement of a reboot so soon probably helped contribute to the poor box office, but I think most people would care more if a movie is actually good and most superhero movies are dying due to people being tired of capeshit. There are exceptions but most were sequels to films that were already well received along with having good word of mouth help them.

tl;dr A lot of factors killed the DCEU but the most important factors to their recent bombs were COVID related or that they weren't really good enough for good word of mouth.

The best DC could hope for now is Blue Beetle somehow being a sleeper hit like Elemental, Aquaman 2 having enough people in China watch it and actually being good.

But the real lesson is that the Cinematic Universe is lightning in a bottle that only Marvel had captured and could never be taken again.

It goes to show that giant media corporations who to ape in the success of what Marvel is doing with its "cinematic universe" is a bad idea from the start. It was shown further proof with Star Wars, DC, and even other failed cinematic universes that people have forgotten about

This is just embarrassing at this point.

Holy fuck, even WBD is trying way too desperately to agree with goyslop "journos" as to why the movie failed at the box office. These niggers keep failing to understand the actual reason why the movie failed, and it's because it's shit, especially from the start.

I'd say that it's less that its shit but they definitely put more of their marketing efforts on the Ezra Miller dead celebrity parade.

The movie had no marketing and it coming out after the Flash definitely hurt it, along with being generic

Blue Beetle wasn't awful. Neither was The Flash. OK, maybe Blue Beetle was slightly worse than The Flash but neither of them were honestly super-horrible and I'd rather sit through Ezra Miller's demented psycho face X2 and the kid from Cobra Kai showing off his karate moves in a blue CGI gimp suit than any Marvel slop from the past 3 years. DC's biggest issue isn't that their movies are unbearable crap, their biggest issue is that they are like a gambling addict obsessed with having their own MCU that will bring in gorillions of dollars and they won't give up on trying to achieve it long after Disney has ridden out the capeshit money wave to increasingly diminishing returns.

And it's because Warner needed a last ditch effort to have their shitty DC universe stay afloat, when they've been crumbling down for so long, and I doubt the new Aquaman sequel will ever capture the same lightning in the bottle as the previous, just like how neither WW1984, The Suicide Squad or either Black Adam and the second Shazam could even capture the same lightning in the bottles as their respective predecessors (with only the former two being released to theatres during the pandemic while also being available on their HBO Max streaming services, which was also the reason why the two failed hard).

Let's be real, the damage has been done and there is no way WBD will ever recover, and I won't be surprised in Superman Legacy does flop in two years (even if I am wrong about this).

I kinda feel bad for the Blue Beetle people. It didn't help the movie is coming to streaming really soon.

Yeah it didn't help as these movies came out post-endgame where Superhero fatigue is more high.

2015-2019 was really the year when any capeshit could make a butt load of money.

Even if Superman Legacy does do well (which I could believe), it probably won't have the same impact to launch a cinematic universe.

Really WB should give up on the whole cinematic universe thing and should make standalone movies. But they're also busy working on a toy cinematic universe because of Barbie.

It’s not embarrassing any more. Now it’s just pathetic.View attachment 5291458
Sorry, but you and WB killed it. You honestly should have kept your mouth shut and you honestly should have worked at a better studio.

How would a Mattel Cinematic Universe even work? Barbie meeting Vert Wheeler would be awkward and deviate themselves from the point of both of those. And from where Barbie was left off as in the film, I'm guessing Barbie would either be a fighter woman or wouldn't even be in the plot, which isn't Barbie.
