I wasn't a huge fan of Jon at his introduction (or bringing back my Superman either for that matter because it was just weird) but I was won over on it and then Bendis retroactively made me not care at all and never be able to care about that character ever again. It's a shame really because I was warming up to Super dad and son.
I loved it, especially the first arc with the new Eradicator, the “moon batcave” and Lois donning that stupid Hellbat armor and going full mama bear mode on Eradicator. Mocking Snyder Batman and having wholesome family content? Massive W.

Lois kept the gloves of the Hellbat btw, she kept one in her purse.

It is interesting how important Jon was when he debuted, a miracle child, moreso than Clark ever was, heir to two worlds, son of the Last Son of Krypton and the Last Daughter of Earth (at the time) and the implication that he was going to outpace his father, which I always interpreted as their way of referencing the Silver Age Superman being leagues above the Golden Age one in terms of raw power. Him and his parents were such an adrenaline shot into the brand, it was glorious.
That's part of the reason that Jon was also disliked, basically a feeling that this random-ass kid character showing up out of nowhere and having unearned accolades heaped upon him. Not really unexpected that he ended up meeting a similar fate of irrelevance like every other attempt by DC to introduce a "Superman's child" character.

I am calling it now. It won't be long until James Gunn has a male DC character canonically raped anally in a DC reboot universe movie. Probably someone in The Authority. Someone at WB has a gay ass rape fetish.

If rumors are true. James Gunn not happy with Matt Reeves Batman universe becoming more popular with Penguin. Trying to stop Matt Reeves from using clayface by putting him in the DCU first.
He is also doing a Sergeant Rock film for some reason.

Genuinely what is the new DC Universe?
How hard is it to just make films for all the core Leaguers (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Green Lantern at least), make Justice League, then branch off from there. Also just picking groups/characters people actually care about. Having a DC Universe that touches on Justice League, Teen Titans, Justice League Dark, and maybe International would set them up for the perfect universe. Why insist on starting off with literal who characters/teams like Suicide Squad or Creature Commandos?

I will admit to being a more casual DC fan, but even I could probably create a more coherent and worthwhile universe than whatever the hell they are doing.

Gay hipster is making movies of the gay hipster characters he likes because he hates the main ones, see Superman being used as a vehicle for the poofs. It’s also cause WB/DC knows about Supes and Bats going public domain in the near future, sure it won’t be everything at the start but it will hurt them. So they want Gunn to do what he did with the Guardians and take crap z-list garbage, then flip it into an asset.

That’s all there is to it.

this is unrelated to this mostly but I really want a noir batman movie with clayface as the villain exploring a seedy hollywood. like for whatever reason the DC Hollywood is in Gotham and Batman's investigating on studio backlogs and shit. I'd take one set now but I'd ideally want this to be 1940s and Batman dealing with a lot of that wild fucked up Hollywood Babylon shit of the golden age of movies trying to catch a shapeshifting killer actor.

when I saw the clayface episode of caped crusader which I thought wasn't bad I was kinda pissed because it was basically the same idea I've had for a decade but without any of the stylistic flair or disturbing bite I'd been imagining. Not their fault they just shit out a 30 minute cartoon but I want hard R Batman wandering around hunting him down and having to deal with gross casting couch types, drug addled movie stars, abused and trafficked child stars, bullshit fake politics, buying endorsements, insane studio system contracts, open secret closeted faggotry and basically just the disgusting excess of what ostensibly are Bruce Wayne's peers as the elites wandering around. throw in a couple of relevant characters like Julie Madison, maybe Alfred knows some older stars from his theater days, idk. would be dope.

Here is your new rumored lineup DC bros:

Looking at it, for the good ideas, I would put:
Superman, Lanterns, Booster Gold, The Question, Plastic Man, Teen Titans, and Swamp Thing

Everything else is a major red flag.

Random Bat-villain movies like Clayface and DeathStroke + Bane, what?

Having a Flash villain movie without the Flash, or before he is even a character?

The Authority, Suicide Squad, Sgt. Rock and Creature Commandos even being there

Wonder Woman show without Wonder Woman.

Supergirl being based on Woman of Tomorrow, most would have been fine with her otherwise.

That Clayface shit is such passive-aggressive faggotry, Matt Reeves clearly got told to make his Batman the “crime saga” and this is Gunn being a petulant child.

Can’t wait till Superman chokes next year, I’d rather my hero never gets a movie again then be something for Gunn to mock.

where is my scarecrow movie
DC isn't cool enough to admit that he is Batman's best villain, so sadly probably never.

To follow up from @el bandito loco and his Clayface idea, I've always wanted a Scarecrow film that does him justice. Would be cool if we can get a trippy Batman horror film that takes elements from Arkham Asylum: A serious House on Serious Earth, the Arkham games (Asylum + Knight) + Injustice 2 and does the devil of a therapist shtick from stories like Kings of Fear. Just having Crane psychologically torment Batman and rip apart everything he stands for would be a hell of a movie. Add in a bunch of trippy horror visuals from the toxins and you're golden.

I love Scarecrow. The dude has the greatest potential of any Batfag villain, yet always gets sidelined for "the real villain" and it pisses me off each time.

So who the hell is Reeves even allowed to use now. If all the fantastical characters are off the table, and he can't do an old-school Clayface, what does he even have?

I have heard they might consider Pyg, but I wonder how much of a draw he is, even if he was liked in Knight. Scarecrow would be a great choice, but I don't think anyone is willing to really utilize him.

Plus he makes a lot of people genuinely uncomfortable, and not in the good way

people all over the internet have been telling me I'm nuts for saying Gunn is forcing that with Reeves Batman and that's why we are getting something called the Crime Saga now and all the spin offs save penguin got canned and it went from Reeves wants to make 5/6 Batman movies to he's been and always has been doing just a trilogy and Batman II didn't have anything down no script at all despite pre writers strike it he just had to finish it he had it locked in. for like a year I've been saying this is exactly what's happening and everyone outside of here has been like no way Gunn is giving him free reign. No, Gunns boss told him Reeves has to continue with his thing and Gunn is constraining him to that box.

Batman II has gotten pushed back like 4 times because he keeps having to start from scratch and now has to only do grounded shit when he wanted to get to guys with freeze weapons and clayface and shit. it'll come out in 15 years how Reeves got assfucked out of using Dick Grayson and having to do 3 grounded movies when he wanted to start there and get to something else.

I've got to say, I don't have anywhere near the level of interest in all that I would expect myself to have. They've managed to sour me on most of it when once I'd have been quite interested to see all this. I greatly disliked the Peacekeeper show to the point I drop out in the 2nd or 3rd episode. I'm actively hostile to the idea of a 2nd season. Alan Tudyk is very talented and might be good as Clayface. Except that we've already had him as Clayface in the dreadful Harley Quinn show and Kiteman show. So now I'll just hear him going "STEEPHANNIIIEEEE!" when I hear his voice. Rogues without Flash is.... well, whatever. But you already pointed that out.

I'm especially wary of a film for The Question. Because he's my favourite DC hero and I have a particular interpretation of him for how I think he should be. And I can't really see them doing it right. I'm usually less dogmatic but we all have something that we just don't want to see screwed up. I think my favourite story with him is where he's in Metropolis investigating Lex Luthor and it's a little like that old X-Files episode "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" where everything is told from an outside point of view. Especially Superman. Highlight is possibly The Question expressing some intentions towards Lois Lane in front of "Clark Kent".

I do not trust Gunn with this character.

I have heard they might consider Pyg, but I wonder how much of a draw he is, even if he was liked in Knight. Scarecrow would be a great choice, but I don't think anyone is willing to really utilize him.
Good. For all that I really like Reeves's work, Pyg as a villain would actually stop me seeing the film. I dislike him and his schtick that much. I can just about stomach Strange, Pyg is several degrees beyond that.

I believe you. And it pisses me off. There's so little in modern film and TV that I actually find good these days. I've had a few arguments with people here over it but I haven't budged in liking Reeve's Batman a lot. Other than Catwoman coming out with some line about "White people", it was pretty much perfect. Reeves, to me, is someone who gets it. So I'd have been really eager to see his takes on some of the more fantastical villains like Freeze or Bane. I guarantee you Reeve's Bane would feel a lot more dangerous than the guy in the Nolan film.

Gunn getting in the way of a more talented new kid pisses me off.

Pyg is fine is very small doses. I think Arkham Knight had the right idea on how long to have him actually appear, hence why he is one of the more generally liked side missions.

Assuming they actually use Vic rather than his lesbian counterpart.

They really need to stop pushing Suicide Squad in general. I have no idea why WB and Gunn are so hellbent on this group. They have like 2 animated films that are okay at best, the rest is just garbage. Go after another weirdo group like Doom Patrol or Metal Men.

The Arnold Wesker version of the Ventriloquist could be possible option. You'll need to find the right actor to play the meek persona of Wesker.

Reeves clearly did the “grounded” Batman due to budget and the obvious Long Halloween theme , which the point of that was the end of the mob, the ordinary, the sane criminal motivated by money.

He obviously was gonna open the floodgates (wink) and bring in the super-criminals, look at the finale of “The Batman” the grounded shit goes out the fucking window.

Gunn’s connected, Reeves isn’t and that “Elseworld” branding was a death sentence for any project not in his fanfiction.

Got to disagree, The Batman cost $185–200 million to make, which is close to Wonder Woman 1984's budget and more than the first Aquaman and Wonder Woman movies. If I had to guess, would expect many of Gunn's projects to cost less than that, unless he really is going to make a $200+ million Swamp Thing movie which is just asking to bomb with a budget like that.

The Batman being grounded was done to stand out in the market place, which is overcrowd but none of them have been grounded for a long while. Also don't think branding The Batman Part 2 as a Elseworld movie will kill it, but having a competing Batman movie has got to hurt the brand and should be the real worry for the studio.

Really the new DCU Batman movies should just turn up for other characters movies, and maybe tell his origin in animated movies that go straight to VoD, while keeping any solo movies plans until Matt Reeves is done with his series. But that looks unlikely.

I think this “the animated movies are canon to the live action” is gay and retarded, it was dumb when Star Wars made you watch cartoons to understand live action shows and it’s so much dumber starting off a “universe” like this. Especially crap like “Creature Commandos” I genuinely have no idea what the fuck that is and I read the stupid funny books.

I think it's fine if it's just extra stuff for people who are really into it, but when it set up shit where you have to watch it to make sense, I agree.
