Alan Moore is stalker level obsessed with Steve Ditko
I don't think it really was Moore was a fan of Ditko's writing, his art sure. But what fascinated Moore about Ditko is how the guy went full recluse in the late 60s early 70s and dedicated himself to Ayn Rand philosophy, which of course went against Moore's hyper leftist anarchy political views. I think he thought his writing was more interesting in it's extreme dedication to philosophy than he was actually into it. the basics is Watchmen is the Charlton characters, but Rorshach is more based on Mr. A then the Question. Who was just the Question again but taken to a degree further than a children's comic let Ditko go.
Danner mostly resembles Superman in his inhuman strength. Sad book.
I read it years ago, it is. The movie is fucking terrible they changed a lot and sanitized the fuck out of it. the book isn't a great American classic or anything, but a good tragic little story but the movie is a shitty sports comedy. Even in the 30s Hollywood was fucking adaptations.

I think they know the Superman film is going to underperform. These WB rumors sound like the final test screenings went poorly and it's too late to fix anything. When you put your Superman movie's lead in a costume that looks like it came from Spirit, you might have made some errors.

Would not be surprised if Gunn and his expanded DC universe all get canned before the end of Q3. Really, a lot of the Warner/DCU mishaps were brought about by their Marvel envy. Their Marvel envy was stupid and resulted in a mess of bad capeflicks, what with their rushed attempt at setting up their own "cinematic universe".

All they had to do was KISS

Superman has complex stories and is a complex character (when written right) but it is not hard to make a story about a good man trying his best in a world that doesn’t care.

This image sums up what people want and what we’re getting, the fucking mutt they got for Clark has a lazy eye FFS.

I’m not going to get into the Snyder vs. Gunn debate, other than to say that it always felt like the most vocal Snyder fans hated Superman and comic books in general. So, there’s that.

I wasn't thrilled for the trailer. But I think DC is just going through a creative panic that eventually hits every franchise where they seemingly can't do anything right.

Kinda off topic but what's the source of that image? I don't believe I've seen whatever superman series this is and I'm kinda interested in checking it out at the very least.

it's worth taking a moment to discuss how the Fleisher Cartoon was basically the greatest thing ever

I for the most part like what I've seen from the new Superman film between the trailer and set photos. My only complaint so far is Guy Gardener could use some more green and black on his suit.

Timm Superman was pretty good, I have it and BTAS on DVD. Metallo was pretty creepy in the show and their design for Metropolis was a nice counter to Gotham. Lobo ruled.

I went into Timm Superman expecting a whole lot more of that Fleischer flavor. Instead, I got...well, whatever that was.

I fucking hate cuck drama.

Granted, Superman did win in the long run. Batman made out with Talia after Ra’s stole her body so they’re even in unfortunate situations with love interests.
When Metallo found out he couldn't fuck with his metal body and went off the rails, it was pretty tragic. Genuinely felt sorry for the guy getting screwed over by Luthor.
Lex’s sociopathy was great in the Timmverse, he really was just Earth’s Brainiac equivalent in his early stages.

I kinda wish Superman got an equivalent to Batman's Brave and the Bold, with the zaniness of Supes' Silver Age, but no dice so far.
IE: Make an episode dedicated to that time Supes slapped the president of USA. Or that time he had Aquaman and Jimmy Olsen seemingly die from thirst (and force Olsen to choose between saving himself or Aquaaman).

This is gonna be Singer's Superman Returns all over again, isn't it?

yeah not quite overtly "Adventures In Superdickery" but there's a lot of that style of stuff they haven't done much with, even after BATB was (afaik) very well-received

I always liked the idea Grant had (but poorly executed) with his run, that Clark’s life corresponds to the comic eras.

That could be a great mini, “The Unusual Life of Clark Kent” and his early years are the stoic and more reigned-in Golden Age, middle years are the silly and zany Silver Age, later years are the darker Bronze Age/Post-Crisis stories and cap it off by showing it’s him telling his adventures to his grandkids but he looks kinda like he did at the end of “Whatever Happened To The Man of Tomorrow?”

“Grandpa, did you eventually give Jimmy and Aquaman the water?”
outside of the ages, and being a boring film overall, what exactly was so bad about the film?
When the Donner stuff was new, that characterization of Supes and his cast was already becoming dated.

Come the 2000s? Archaic.

Plus the cuck drama, disappeared dad Supes, Lex yet again, the ridiculous decision to continue the Donner universe, it’s all bad.

Just a retread of the original with less logic. Hackman using warheads for real estate was hilarious. Spacey pushing America into the sea and forcing them to live on a barren rock was dumb. Not "Otisburg" ha-ha dumb. Just dumb.

The only enjoyment I get is picturing Lex unleashing hellfire on the world because it dared to reject his real estate scheme—like Hitler bombing Germans as punishment for "losing" the war.

1. Superman being a creepy stalker.
2. Superman being an absent dad.
3. Lois Lane being a two-timing hoe.
4. Redoing Lex Luthor's hackneyed real estate scheme.
5. The entire idiotic ending.

Brandon Routh was great casting though and you could see that he was truly passionate about getting the character right. And the scene where Supes gets shot in the eye and you get to see the bullet bounce off in slow-motion was awesome. Too bad it's like the only cool part of the film.

BTW, fun fact - Routh originally wanted to get even bigger and buffer for the role to truly embody the superhero physique but Singer wanted him to stay twink mode. Which is why Routh's Superman in the film seems so relatively "skinny" compared to what you'd expect.
