BTAS left a massive impact that largely usurped any Batman content that came after, rightfully or not. The Batman was frequently left in its shadow. Even LEGO Batman, which came out in 2008, largely based itself around BTAS rather than the much more relevant 04 series - with the exception of using Firefly from 04 in the DS versions and later LB3.

Also, the 2000s DC cartoons were weirdly unimpactful till recently. One would think the large success of Teen Titans would mean the originals added to the rogues gallery would be transferred over to comics, but strangely no? Wasn't until very recently we started seeing DC mainstream the likes of Cinderblock or Red X in the comics.

Batman Brave & The Bold is arguably the most impactful, and that is mainly relegated to Bat-Mite returning and The Music Meister being increasingly more used.

I know but it is such a shame that the best version of Clayface has been so overshadowed.

If Rian Johnson can get work after Star Wars Episode 8, anyone can keep working after sabotaging a movie.

IIRC, Roundhead is mainly working on his own IPs. He hasn't touched IPs of others but I might be wrong.

LEGO just dropped some new teasers first up, Absolute Batman & Catwoman:

I know it's just marketing talk, but are we really talking like reskinning a lego figure and adding spikes was a big ordeal for the development team?

The theme for the early seasons was also my favourite Bat theme, again, biased cause that was my Batman growing up and those are the voices I “hear” when reading Bat-stuff. Wish there were more comics that had the tone of that series.

I love the second theme and like how it's basically the theme growing alongside Bruce and becoming more optimistic as Bruce opens up and expands his trust circle.

While Clayface isn't a no-name villain, he's not exactly an A-lister who's interesting enough to warrant a solo outing like the Joker, Penguin, or even Catwoman.

Say what you will about Marvel scraping the bottom of the barrel for heroes to put in the MCU, but they only got there because they already exhausted most of the big names. Here, we haven't even gotten a Batman movie in this new universe, yet they decided to make a Clayface movie first?

The funny thing is if the franchise was healthy I don't think there is anything wrong about making a smaller movie based around a villain. You see their struggles, their fall and then eventual turn to unforgiveable evil. Hint at Batman being involved through the entire movie and have him show up in the third act. For some you can make it the final step in their tragedy. For others it's a righteous takedown in the villain's moment of triumph.

I don't think Clayface is the movie to do it though.

Lex already hijacks most Justice League plots into becoming the main character, let alone Superman. If there was ever an easy win with this concept, it would be a film exploring Lex. The template is even already there thanks to Smallville. Just go into Lex’s daddy drama, him forming his company, his long term desire to make his high school rock band Sex Luthor a platinum hit, his government weapon dealings, his presidency - there is quite a lot there.

No one is talking about Lex anymore which drives him crazy. He starts losing arms contracts because Superman exists and now his existence has become the greatest deterrent of all. Lex's company begins to fail. But most of all Lex will soon be forgotten in the wake of Superman. That becomes the real tragedy, Lex's fall is he can't stand that someone is better than him, that his belief that someone as earnest as Superman possibly exist, and all he has to do is show the world that Superman is just like Lex.

How the whole story played out kind of like the arc with the minor characters in Watchmen where you see how he interacts with all these smaller people (even maybe trying to do right by some of them) who just wind up becoming collateral damage in yet another plan to tarnish Superman's reputation.

It's OK but I absolutely hate the sound mixing on this trailer.
That bassy WOMP sound was really hurting my ears.

Regarding Clayface himself, I think he's a good 1 time villain.
That 2 parter in Batman TAS was perfect from start to finish.
After that, Clayface should have never been used again but people liked him a lot so he's now a regular recurring villain.
He also doesn't fit the DC universe that Gunn made, I really hope this won't be in any way connected to it and will be a standalone thing.

I think this will do fine, the budget is only $40 million so if it makes $100 million, it's already making a profit.
The only way this will bomb is if it sucks which... is a possibility.
I'm hoping we won't get some generic shit like The Crow remake.

When is this thing coming out?
That's the important thing, it will determine what the competition is...

Lex Luthor: Man of Steel is fun because it takes so many Lex scheme cliches and completely changes their tone and presentation with Lex’s POV and the inhuman, alien way he actually thinks.

Lex is the guy who has the societal hallmarks of success but he’s indifferent because nothing will never satisfy his ego. Men wanting to be Superman instead of being Lex? That can’t stand. Lex is the type of guy who genuinely cannot stomach that the bar of greatness just got moved up by a few notches……. and he’s never going to reach it, despite having everything a man could want. Hollow.

It takes balls to redesign everyone so thoroughly, again, especially following up BTAS. It worked, The Batman’s designs make it a pretty good period piece for early 2000s cartoons. The wave is pulling back from the shit 90s cartoons got away with (the dyke whores in BTAS and all the suggested things) but it’s still present in a diminished form with the designs.

That’s closer to the proper dynamic than anything live action DC has shat out since Smallville, which is the best live-action Lex. Not as unhinged as I like but the best.

Like obviously Lex isn’t near the hedonism (despite being a freak) but the fragile self-image, vanity, utter disregard for law and decency, combined with a probably extremely competitive environment at LexCorp? Yeah, that fits. Post-Crisis Lex was based on the peak era of Wall Street yuppie shitheads that Jordan was a part of, the same batch American Psycho was birthed from.

The only ‘bad’ (not really) redesign I can think of is Ivy, just for the weirdness in them not really specifying her age well. It is a little bizarre to have traditional seductress Ivy, but they clearly design her to be jailbait. Very strange design decisions, wish she was a little more mature as I think many elements are still good.

Pennyworth I'm watching on and off, and it's a somewhat based at times show, very odd considering it's somewhat modern. It shows a super-authoritarian England... That doesn't look too bad, honestly, especially compared to RL England.

People are always going to disagree with me but as long as I have the power to help, I'm going to. they know where to find me, if they want to stop me they're welcome to try, they won't. you disagree with me? It was originally tied to Reeves, but got moved to being part of Gunn’s universe as a way to introduce Gotham and play into Gunn’s whole “the DCEU is an art house of different genres.”

It is evident that Clayface was originally designed within the Matt Reeves universe. The set features various elements from the Batman franchise, including the Bat-symbol and newspapers referencing fictional drugs from the Batman and the penguin. P.S who the hell thinks Clayface a good way to start Cinematic universe?
