The Texas Chainsaw game subreddit is a bloodbath right now. Players are fed up with these incompetent devs, as they should be.

I like the game, but it's so fucking tedious how every patch to fix something in the game just breaks a bunch of other things. The lobbies are still terrible. They released a new victim, but not a new killer, so the lobbies are absolute dogshit right now. Everybody wants to play the new victim, and nobody wants to play family. They were told this would happen, but did nothing about it. And the new victim's skill tree is bugged right out the gate too.
I have no hate for the TCM fans or their game, I want them to have good things and give BHVR competition, but it is so funny to me that every game in this genre is mismanaged to shit and turns out like this. I have plenty to bitch about with DBD but sometimes it's like "wow, they really do have their shit together in comparison to [X]."

I'm potentially interested in giving DBD another go but, with how impressively cancerous that community is, I kind of want to just play in the most toxic ways imaginable so they go MATI. Any advice? I know they hate the everloving shit out of Skull Merchant, but an update made gen regressions limited, so presumably the "it's like playing chess" idea wouldn't work out well.
Half the killers have dedicated quitters who just give up if they see you, whether they're high tier or not. I had to survivors surrender to Dredge last night and died on first hook, Plague is another common one. Skull Merchant will get quitters sometimes, and people will give up if they're a flashlight specialist and realize you have Lightborn and down them while you get shined in the face.

The gen regression thing doesn't come into play very often, 8 kicks is almost always more than enough but if it comes down to it some survivors will work gens only a tiny bit to bait you into wasting potential kicks. It's still always worth playing a long game even if you're losing, because even the best trolly survivors will taper off and die once the pallets are gone and they realize they 3-genned themselves and can't play the endgame properly.

Y'all might like Voidtodos. Last year or so he's been regularly posting videos of himself targeting survivors with pride flags, targeting particular races, and just generally cheating, along with the reactions he gets from other streamers

A real bad aspect of TCM is that the game original killers just suck compared to the original trio. You gotta run Leatherface, Cook, and Hitchhiker, or you're probably gonna get shit on. You're putting your team at a disadvantage if you play anyone else, because they just aren't as effective. Not every time, of course, but generally.

They really need a good new killer who can break that meta.

Honestly, the meta wasn't even a problem until they traded "Victims can basically run forever, but also can't really shake Hiker off, and he's deadly enough" for "WELCOME TO GRAPPLEMANIA" and shadownerfed Hiker's damage. I was killing in 7 swings and now I don't kill in less than 11... And they ALWAYS shadownerf/buff shit. It's maddening. They just buffed Sissy and Johnny by finishing some of their running animations. Johnny still walks, but now they can transition from a standstill attack to a running attack. They also nerfed them. Sissy can no longer poison through any sort of terrain. Johnny now deals about new Hiker damage so he's 100% pointless to run as he's just a trapless, unable to use gaps Hitchhiker with a longer grapple animation and a lunge.

Now it's to a point where if you wanna have any shot at killing a tank you NEED to patrol religiously and you NEED to let the Bubba player come and set up his oneshot or they just scurry off into a well for another 13 minute hide n' seek with no implements game sesh. I don't fucking know who they think is gonna be able, let alone willing, to play like this. No wonder Family is in a proportion nearing 1 to 20. A trained monkey can abuse infinites in this game and that's all it takes to be immortal as Victim. You need a god damn PHD just to stand a chance as Family if you SoloQ. It's dumb. It almost never results in a good experience.

I just don't understand how a gamedev is gonna design a stealth game where literally all you can do is either "Bush mimicry" or "Search for them with your EYES and EARS." Even Friday 13th had better, less basic stealth than this. I'm not gonna be a madman and compare this to Metal Gear Online or TF2, but those games understood that good multiplayer stealth NEEDS creative implements to actually be powerful and engaging. As it stands all you gotta do is crank up your gamma and boom, you'll see people in bushes, easy enough.

The fact that grapples aren't a super risky maneuver any more means Victims, when they're good, can just hold your ass in place endlessly as Danny/Connie break everything. Virginia is disgustingly Pay To Win just like Danny was. I don't know who was the genius who decided to give her the most controversial Danny perk, Fast Hands, which is just Mini Focus, but at level 3 she's free team-wide borderline resourceless heals/fuck your blood build because I say so/Let's see you try to stop me from popping shit in your face with 0 stamina while you're backstabbed, buddy.

Her stats are absolutely meta. There's no logic to any of them. She's an old lady who's a former nurse. She's tougher than the wrestler, fitter than the sports girl, and almost as resourceful as the super smart farm girl. She's second best base toughness, second best base endurance, second best base proficiency. Her power is gamebreaking, allows for super easy counterplay to Bubba, who the Family nowadays entirely depends on and comes with 2 charges and is resource based: So if you play her well, 0 cooldown. She wins chase for free by just remembering to push R1 at some point.

There's also a shitload of inescapable checkmate situations involving Danny+Leland or Connie+Virginia. Just thank fuck that 99% of SoloQ Victims are unable to execute them properly, because Victim is beyond busted but nobody seems to be able to properly play the role. It isn't even hard: You just Grapple Grapple Barge as Danny's tampering whatever, but it seems too much to ask. Leland can literally 1 v 3 the Family as long as his power is up. It IS useless without someone doing an objective meanwhile, but the fact that he's even able to pretty much singlehandedly win a game at all is crazy in and of itself.

At this point, unless the new killer is something like a dual wielding chainsaw dude with an AoE oneshot, you can double up with Bubba, he's got a low cooldown pulse-based tracking, can pull Victims from gaps AND use them himself, can destroy shit, and essentially 1 v 4 without any help I just don't see how they're gonna rope more dopes into Unarmed Security Guard Tries To Stop A SWAT Team Simulator.

I win most of my matches and yet I never can finish a single one without wanting to tell someone to go fuck themselves, whether it be the regarded Johnny rushing basement or the asshole Victim exploiting my team's crippling tiktok induced zoomer brain-rot preventing them from JUST FUCKING PARKING THEY DUMB ASS IN FRONT OF YON MOTHERFUCKING GATE and call if you need help buddy. I swear every fucking time they see someone, even if it's obvious bait, it's off to the races for them. Then the fuckhead Connie crab scuttles out of bush, lockpick in each hand, and pops everything in 45 seconds.

As a team and with Exterior Alarms it's not so bad. You basically patrol to create enough chances for the Bubba to get his finicky oneshot in and you'll 4K 95% of the time. The only problem being that expecting a fairly busy group of mid to late 20's/30something crusty gamers to be able to get together daily to grind out this shit, when there's not even anything to grind towards is fairly optimistic.

It's really funny that a game about chopping up hot women in daisy dukes and hearing their terrified screams as you shove their faces into a live chainsaw is, by time-consumption design, mostly aimed towards children. I didn't use to think it was about the torture porn as the executions were mostly just dumb-looking and wacky, certainly nothing close to House of Velez in terms of gorno, but then I saw the Ryona videos pop up and people just being horny about characters and Johnny shirtlessly stabbing people and I just gotta wonder if "Murder Hide N' Seek" is in some eldritch way that I fail to grasp equivalent to coomnip.

At that point, just play another game.
Look, as a Family player, a dude can go reading about half a bible's worth of guides and strats, learn meta builds, learn to differentiate the good stuff from the meme stuff that youtubers are pushing as "meta" in their desperate attempt to achieve Otzdarva-like fame, and be ready to change them with the harebrained buffs and nerfs that are sure to come in the future, get an entire team of likeminded gamers who ALSO have 100% map-and-meta-and-setplay knowledge and ONLY THEN will you be PROPERLY able to really enjoy the game, as long as the matchmaking and DED GAEM gods are feeling merciful that day and don't match you with Japanese latency wizards who will facetank your Slams only to reappear 20 meters away, completely unharmed...

... Or they can do what Bruno said and play something else. It's really sad that Gun put another one in a cheap casket, specially so fast, but at this point the Family role literally appeals only to masochistic psychopaths. 99% of people aren't gonna put up with this dumb shit. Or keep relearning a game that was a very big ask to learn one time to begin with. 90% of Family players just want to chase and kill shit.

Right now, a grand total of zero (0) characters can reliably do that solo. If Bubba kills someone, it's because they fucked up. If Hiker kills someone, it's because they didn't prepare enough AND Hiker's team was on the ball covering his patrol routes. Nothing enjoyable for Family happens naturally without a shitload of knowledge and teamwork checks and cover setups all being cleared and performed adequately. And the long, drawn out executions ensure that even if you're actively killing someone, they can use that time to pop in and finish fuse.

The very fact that good Victims get to actively punish not just a good but an optimal play if they're attentive enough pretty much sums up the entire philosophy behind the game's design. Sure, DBD might let you finish a gen if the killer's hooking someone, but at least someone else will have to actually drop what they're doing and come pick them up if they still want access to that survivor's resources, and even after that they'll still have to recover or accept a greater risk in exchange for speed.

In Texas, if you dare kill a Danny doing Valve in about 20 seconds as Hiker, you'll have to tank another 12 seconds of Execution animation, which means if Connie wasn't braindead she'll be working on the exit by the time you're even done. And Danny might just make it to one of the plentiful infinites/get out of jail free wells.

The nail in the coffin ultimately is the fact that there was ABSOLUTELY no point in making Family this difficult to enjoy and stick to. The design is very obviously "Protags vs Villains" rather than "Mice vs Cats." When you make your game thoroughly unenjoyable for what is close to half the playerbase, very few people will stick around.

It's no wonder most lobbies get dodged and most matches end in a ragequit: Having a good match is just THAT rare. Most of the good Family players will straight up refuse to play unless we're running meta comp AND perks. Some dudes try to last second Johnny because "It's the only way I get to play him" and then it's all people hurt feelings and Shocked Pikachus when their team wordlessly leaves him to a 1 v 4.

The fact that they're offering, to be honest, kinda bum deals where you get the second worst killer in the game for cheaper than the old, loyal customers seems to indicate that they actively hate how tryhard and elitist the remaining Family playerbase is. But honestly, when they nerfkilled Cook's ability to be a great support while playing optimally and being one of two characters that actually felt fun and not stressful as fuck to play, they shoulda seen this coming.

Well, guess it wouldn't be Gun if they had even a modicum of foresight.

It's funnier to think that the mods were still gung ho over this crap and thought "Yeah, this will get a billion upvotes by posting day after April Fools!" There was time to pull out and stop this but no one had any amount of self-awareness to recognize just how shitty it was before posting.

Slug, slug for 4k and closing hatch, camp hooks, camp slugs, facecamp after exit gates powered, teabag as Ghostface, tunnel, tunnel as pig to deny removing headtraps and force them to lose, play nurse, play Blight, play skull merchant, play knight, play pinhead, play tombstone Myers, play clown with pinky finger, play huntress with iri head. Play noed, play 4 gen defence perks, say "ggez". Say "ez clap". Say "ggwp" when you 4k at 3-5 gens remaining. Just say "gg." Respond with "U mad?" to make survivors realise their mati (not always works but it calms them down). Rile them up more in endgame chat.

Just play normally and eventually people will get mati for no reason other than feeling shit and having a bad time.

Skull Merchant's 3 gen potential is still strong since survivors have to crouch out of drones, waste time disabling them, or risk getting broken. That and her new undetectable makes her btfo mid-low MMR survivors.
 
The Twins if they make it from PtB to live without any major changes are gonna be worse to face than old Legion.

Honestly they should've been gradually buffed like Wraith's many QoL changes instead of all in one go to slowly boil the frogs.

There's no way Victor will remain that lethal.

Just saw the changes. What the fuck were they thinking. Actually, nevermind, they probably don't think about anything when releasing anything that isn't 10$ cosmetics.

Also what the fuck is this mobile game ass looking animation? Isn't the art team the one that is supposed not to be fucking things up?
