Dead Island 2 - Welcome to HELL-A - Haha so funny

Dying Light 2 recently got a patch that tweaked the combat and physics to be less ass and I've been playing it for the first time. Game is alright, still not as good as the first but they're apparently planning two more major overhauls to combat and parkour respectively so I'm curious if it will be almost as good as it's prequel by that point.

Still gonna side with the Peacekeepers though, because fuck Anarcho Commies, and fuck the writers for making them the 'good' option.

I can't really see any reason to play this honestly. Dying Light was already the evolution of Dead Island mechanically and graphically that I wanted from the original game, this just looks like a worse version of that game apart from a cleaner presentation. Gore and combat physics look better than DL2, sure, but no parkour is a deal breaker to me.
I was going to get DL2 since I loved the original but when I started seeing the lukewarm response to it and the (I don't know if exaggerated) 6 hour tutorial I bailed on the thought.

So far with the major update I've found it better but still not as good as the first. Hold out for the last two major updates and see if you're curious, probably be even cheaper by then too.

The tutorial was retarded long. I wound up skipping tons of dialogue because the characters just would not shut the fuck up, constantly talking about backstory shit and world building, flashbacks every ten steps, it got really obnoxious especially since everyone you meet is kind of a dick, hence why I'm all for blowing them the fuck up at the end I guess.

I'll keep an eye on it. I love the Following, so if it's on par with that I'll jump aboard.

Playing the first game. I like the asian lady. Am having trouble with it though. Its harder than I thought.
Im currently at Born to be Wild. Any tips?

I don't remember the campaign much since it's been years. But the best thing to do is go find the dev weapons so you can buff yourself out early on.

This is for Dying Light, not Dead Island.

I don't know if their servers are still up, I imagine they are. But if you ever decide to jump into that, I'd expect you to be gifted a bunch of hacked guns with unlimited ammo.

  • Make a stack (30 units) of Meat Bait. Requires 3x meat from destroyed Infected head. If smashed after it died, it won't spawn. You'll need it to distract zombies from you, especially burning Infected.
  • Make a stack (30 units) of Deodorant Bomb. All it need is 2 duct tapes and a bleach. Duct tapes can be easily spawn at Lighthouse safe house inside the locked dark room where you have to take transmitter to progress Story Mission further. Restart from Checkpoint to respawn the duct tapes. As for bleach, just buy it from the trader at the Church in city when it's available.
  • Breaking or properly chopping both hands of Zombies or Thugs while they're laying on the ground will instantly kill them and also adds extra XP.
  • To teleport or respawn at any place you wish, select the Continuous Mission on the menu that requires you to present where NPC appears at. Some missions only appear if you're inside specific map, but sometimes also entirely available when it's bugged.
  • Critical headshot of shotgun is always guaranteed an insta-kill or massive damage towards a target, but the rate is pretty slim. You can increase it by adopting specific skill or use mods that increase the crit chance most.
  • Since you're using an Asian lady, only focus to upgrade and modify the sharp weapons, especially Wakizashi, Machete, one-handed Axe, and so on. Avoid two-handed weapons by exception baseball bat for smashing Infected's head to spawn meat.
  • Invest on Lv.3 crate unlock skill. You can ignore inventory upgrade since you have good amount of slots already by default.
  • Always upgrade and probably mod your weapons every 10 levels gap if you want to keep killing zombies with ease.
  • Very Easy survival mode from Arena is also a great way to earn money and XP fast, but it takes about several waves and not to die in order to actually grind money.
  • Die = 50% money on wallet gone. 25% if using specific skill tree as Asian woman, but not worth the hassle IMO.
  • ALWAYS break the front car window with melee or gunshot before entering the car so it will not distract your view when you ramming onto zombies at high speed, which can also break the window.
  • blablabla

Note: Vanilla version only. Remastered version will be a lot different compare to original in terms of gameplay and grind mechanics.

Weapon affixes info (outdated, but still useful). Focus on affixes that gives most damage or best ordinary condition to sell for money: https://deadisland.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon_Affixes

Bumping the thread because I think this game will be dead on arrival (no pun intended) on PC since it's a Timmy Tencent exclusive.

I got this game last night for the luls. It's been pretty good but I will forewarn everyone that whatever character you pick speaks alot. I can't speak towards anyone but 'Dani' (I liked her passive skills best). Despite appearances she hasn't said anything 'woke' in the first 6 hours. She seems slightly Irish, and is trying to get to her friends in Portland. I thought...god damn it but it's a zombie apocalypse game so the dialouge has been focused on that. The game is very 'modern LA' with NPCs and a back drop that is similar to the movie This is The End. It has a comedic aspect that rides along the 'serious tonality' of the apocalypse environment but there is that Borderlands esque vibe coming out which I thought Dead Island lacked.

I still remember the 2014 E3 trailer and I honestly believed this game had already come out. It's one of those trailers that stuck in my head purely because of its set up and music choice. It's a really good advertisement. The cinematic vision for this game was enticing and felt honest but intriguing, likely compounded by the bait and switch of the first game.

The first minute of the new trailer was a fucking pain in the ass to sit through. Couldn't be bothered to finish it. I don't often times describe something as 'cringey' but that made me feel like crawling out of my skin, and the HELL-A subtitle had nothing to do with it. What is the point of advertising an LA setting and not going for the LA voice or a valley girl? Why is the voiceover guy a pond lad?

I kind of miss cinematic trailers, even if they were all bollocks the spectacle was a joy to behold. Thinking about Dead Island and how it's saved as 'the trailer franchise' in my brain has got me appreciating good marketing.
That trailer made sure this series would never fucking go anywhere. The sheer and complete tonal difference is highly jarring when you play the janky shite. Its not a bad game, but that trailer gave a very different impression of what was in store.

I never liked those trailers that fail to show what the game is. Now we just get heavily scripted "in game" shit that no one trusts anymore.

I cant believe after a decade of development hell the devs/publisher/whoever decided to do a big obvious sequel bait for this game

I gave this game a try! It's bad.

Nobody cares about this stupid game. Look, the last post in this thread was from April 23rd, two days after it launched. So here's some gameplay footage I recorded and stitched together:

  • This is a 2023 game and the first clip showcases how there is less interactivity with dead NPCs than even Half-Life 2 had NINETEEN YEARS AGO
  • At 0:36, you can see my character's hand clipping through the model's head
  • At the 1:00 mark, I cut to a clip of some early-game zombies I killed and I cut them up - they don't cut dynamically (Shadow Warrior did this ten years ago), but do come apart by just... kinda exploding apart, from vaguely where you slashed? (Though they are much gorier than zombies in older games used to be)
  • At 1:36, I jump to another scene where you can look in the mirror and see the weapon I'm holding just kind of... floating in the air. The character model is completely invisible, despite having a full shadow elsewhere. I then slash at the mirror, and it does not dynamically shatter or anything, but instead just throws up some decals to demonstrate it getting cracked.
The gameplay itself is unremarkable and trite. If you have ever played Dead Island 1, or Left 4 Dead, or Killng Floor, or just about any other zombie game, you've played this. For all the time in development hell, it sure doesn't do a single damn novel thing. I don't think anybody expected the game to be good, but in case you're wondering, it's really, really not.
