Dead pupper mega thread

This is really horrifying. There's literally no reason for junior high students to see this. It serves no educational value whatsoever. I don't care if the puppy had a deformity and was sick. If it was going to die you euthanize it humanely. You don't feed it live to a turtle in front of children to teach them about the circle of life.

I'm surprised that some parents are defending this. It actually didn't happen during class but during a supplementary lesson after school. The teacher had previously fed other animals to reptiles.

There are always tough moments in biology class from wrapping your head around osmosis to dissecting a frog, but one teacher in Idaho gave some students a lesson they will never forget when he fed a live puppy to a turtle.

After school, Preston Junior High School science teacher Robert Crosland taught about the circle of life by letting a snapping turtle have at a live pup. Not surprisingly, he is now under investigation with animal rights activists calling the demonstration "disgusting and sick." One told the local Fox affiliate, "Allowing children to watch an innocent baby puppy scream because it is being fed to an animal. That is violence. That is not okay."

However, some parents and students are defending the teacher, pointing out that the puppy had deformities and would've died soon anyways. One student told the East Idaho Post the Crosland is "a cool teacher who really brought science to life," adding, "I loved his class because he had turtles and snakes and other cool things."

Previously, Crosland had fed guinea pigs to the snakes and turtles in his classroom, but it's not clear if they were alive or not.

In a press release, Preston Junior High explained there is now an investigation into the incident and asked parents to be patient and remember the "years of care, effort and passion" from Crosland.

Meanwhile, the superintendent called the event "a regrettable circumstance involving some of the biological specimens," and stated that it did not happen during school. The local sheriff is also looking into what occurred.

A South Korean farmer killed and cooked a neighbour’s barking dog before inviting its unsuspecting owner to join him for a dog-meat dinner, in a case that has sparked online outrage.

The 62-year-old unnamed man confessed to the crime after another neighbour tipped off the pet owner’s family. He claimed he was so irritated by the dog’s constant barking that he threw a stone at the two-year-old Welsh corgi, causing the animal to lose consciousness.

“Only after the dog passed out, he claims, he strangled the animal and cooked it,” a detective in the southern city of Pyeongtaek said. “The man then invited his neighbours to share the meal, including the father of the dog-owning family.”

Dog meat has long been a part of South Korean cuisine. But consumption has declined as South Koreans increasingly embrace the idea of dogs as pets instead of livestock. Eating dogs is now something of a taboo among younger generations.

The case came to light when a daughter of the family this week published an online plea calling for public support to ensure that the offender be punished sternly. A petition has so far gained almost 15,000 signatures.

“We had been all around the town, handing out leaflets containing the dog’s picture, phone number and rewards of 1m won (£660), in order to find the missing dog,” she said, asking for her family’s name to be kept anonymous. “When I reached the man’s house, which is just three doors down from ours, he expressed sympathy, promising to let us know if he found the dog.”

At that time, however, the farmer was hiding the dog – either alive or dead – in his barn, she said.

The following day, the suspect visited her father, drank with him and consoled him over the missing dog. “He even invited neighbours to come share the dog meat, including my father who did not accept the invitation as he is a non-dog meat eater,” she said.

Up to 1 million dogs are consumed in South Korea each year, and the greasy red meat, which is usually boiled to improve tenderness, is believed to increase the eater’s energy.

Activists have stepped up campaigns to ban dog consumption. Under a newly strengthened law animal abusers face up to two years in prison or 20m won in fines.

That's good to know. Dogs are men's best friends, please do not eat them :c

I'd be lying if I said I haven't thought about doing the same to my neighbors dog.

Preventing your dog from being eaten is the owner's responsibility imo. If you live in a place where people see dogs as livestock and not pets, letting it bark all day and night isn't a great way to convince the older generations to change their opinions.

This is clearly an Eric Cartman inspired move.

wait what

that didn't seem suspicious? "hey man sorry about your missing dog. in unrelated news I have fresh dog if you're hungry."

I heard that same story except it was from relatives in Texas who had a pet pot bellied pig. The pig got out and the neighborhood Mexicans butchered it and invited my cousins over for the barbecue afterwards. True story.

If my neighbor shot and killed one of my cows because my cows were mooing all the time, that'd be shitty too. Don't fuck with my property, especially if it's a living thing. Come over and talk to me about it like a human being.

What if I shot one of your cows?

My grandmother had a neighbor who had a duck back in the 60s. Some nasty old crone didn't like the duck wandering around so she killed it and ate it. No one liked the old duck eating bat anyway. My mom said she was the meanest lady in the neighborhood. Eating people's pet ducks didn't help that any.

This makes sense, but even in Korea, I'd have a hard time believing the dog-cooker didn't approach his neighbor at least once. This might be my straight-white-male privilege talking, but I would rather tell you I have problem, then escalate a problem without both parties being involved.

I don't know, it sounds a lot more like a crazy batshit neighbor story than a "reasonable person pushed to the edge of their limits" story.

And again, the cultural relativism angle doesn't work either. If it was a chicken here it'd be the same thing.

I'm don't really need to argue the "pushed to the edge" idea. But I also don't know how crazy the neighbor was? Like you said, cultural relativism; Some places in the world invest money to raise kangaroos, some places just treat kangaroos like the most obnoxious road kill imaginable (for North America; imagine the biggest moth, now imagine it the size of a deer. In the middle. Of the road.)

My point is property/animals/life means different things depending on where you are in the world.

A teenager in Houston has been charged with animal abuse after a puppy was thrown 100 feet to its death. 17-year-old Taylor DeWolfe and another unnamed juvenile confessed to a Texas County Sheriff's Department deputy that he carried the puppy to the top of a fire lookout tower on Highway 38 to throw it off. DeWolfe said the juvenile he was threw the animal off the tower and then tossed it into a nearby ditch.
