Dead video game series/franchises you refuse to let go

The World Ends With you seems to be dead it seems.

It had great themes for a JRPG on the original DS, it's one of the very few games that really took advantage of the DS. Not many games did that for the system. It was ambiguous and it sold really well in the west, similar to Bravely Default.

I'm shocked Square Enix aren't taking advantage of how many JRPGs are on the 3DS, and how popular the system is. Then again this is Square Enix, they seem to only care about a few titles and that's it.

I played through the ipad version, which worked surprisingly well. It's a real pity it's dead though, it's such an exploitable premise.

Conflict: Freespace. Though I have doubts about Volition being able to make a new title in this series, after all it hasn't been touched in 15+ years.

Also, Aquanox and Mechwarrior come to mind.
In terms of Mechwarrior, I played the free Multiplayer Mod for Crysis for a bit, but it was killed by the people that used an official license to make a shitty pay2win game.
MechCommander was very enjoyable, too.
Aquanox 1 and 2 were fucking awesome games with great dialogue, interesting characters and the setting of some dystopian post apocalyptica underwater world felt really unique.

I want to let go of Oni but I can't.
Oh god, why did you have to remind me? :(

I was just about to write how I miss Freespace series. Heck, I miss tight, mission oriented space dog fights in general.

The iOS and Android port was really well done considering the game was made for the DS in mind.

They set up a tease for a sequel in the port too but that was never followed up on.

Because it still hurts even after all these years. (:_(

Several years ago some people tried to make a fan-made sequel, they even had their own wiki with concept art and stuff, but like most fan projects it went nowhere. :heart-empty:

To make matters worse, Bungie doesn't even own Oni anymore and sold the IP to God knows who IIRC. I think it's safe to say that we won't live to see Oni 2, but a part of me wants to believe.

Definitely the Mother series. While not everyone likes the Querk factor that the games have, I for one find it charming. Shame Itoi says he'll probably never make a 4th game of his own accord, but I feel it stands perfectly as a trilogy (though the 1st game is kinda weak compared to it's younger brothers) and I will definitely replay them all when Mother 3 hopefully gets a Western release.

Sim City 4, while the series isn't dead, the recent one was an abomination as far as I'm concerned. But I can and do play part 4 whenever the mood strikes every few months.

And Chrono Trigger and FF3. I play through these in their entirety at least once every two years or so, especially Chrono Trigger.

Gears of War 3 online I still play regularly when I get in the mood to shoot at people. I don't care for the COD games. It's not that they're terrible, its just I was never any good at them. Modern Warfare 2 is the one I played the most and actually got OK at, but that was only due to playing online just about every other night with my brother, some coworkers, and some random other people we teamed up with online and had a little thing going for awhile. [EDIT: My mistake, COD and GOW are far from dead lol, idk what I was thinking.]

God damn Systemshock. There are rumours of a remake but i have learned not to trust them a long time ago. I just love anything "0451" or anything with looking glass studios inspiration. At the very least we got Prey this year which was probably the closest we'll get to another -shock for some time. I also think naming the game Psycho Shock or Mind Shock would have made more money since im (at least hoping) that there are more people who like SystemShock/Bioshock than there are people who bought because they liked Prey (2006)

Most danmaku games I play over and over again are "dead", but they are alive, because danmaku is something personal you do over and over again to overcome your high scores, so it doesn't matter that much that the games are often 20 years old and most people never heard of them.

Although Destiny turned out to be a disaster due to corporate bullshit and Joe Staten's story being scrapped, I still lament over what it could have been had the original vision come true.
