Dead video game series/franchises you refuse to let go

To you guys who want a new F-Zero, there's always FAST Racing games for the experience.
As somebody who played F-Zero GX to death and is also unbeatable at Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer, FAST Racing NEO just sorta lacks something. I don't know what, and it's an enjoyable distraction don't get me wrong, but it's not even in the same league as F-Zero.

It's not really a series, but I always wished they'd come out with a sequel to an old game called T-MEK, an old Atari sit-down cockpit style arcade game where you could play with two players and it was basically a 3-d vehicular combat game with big sound that shook the cockpit itself.

Which reminds me: We need proper Bomberman sequels. How can you not make more? They can't be that expensive to make and you can spend ages playing it with friends!
Well, since the bastards at Konami own Bomberman now and destoryed him with the infamous Bomberman: Act Zero title, sadly this will probably never happen. Such a shame too, since Bomberman is one of my fave video game franchises along with Team Fortress and Portal. Another reason to say #FuckKonami really.

If it weren't for games like Elite: Dangerous, I would think the sim genre was dead.

On a related note, I'd love a story-based return to the Mechwarrior. There's nothing more fun than piloting a big stompy robot blowing the hell out of other big stompy robots, and while Mechwarrior Online has its moments, a never-ending slog of team deathmatch gets old fast.

The Amnesia series by Frictional Games.

Man I know why it's dead just like Penumbra was but it still kills me as it was one of the few indie game company productions that was legitimately horrifying. I still keep hoping that maybe for some reason they'll release a new one but hahahahah yeah right.

I know it only lasted one game and expansion, but I really miss Act of War: Direct Action. Doubly so because you can't play it on computers with more than 2gb of RAM.

It's on hiatus, but I just want a proper Devil May Cry sequel. I played the 4 games for the first time about two years ago, and I loved them.
Sure, there is the special edition of DMC4, and that's fun, but a sequel is long overdue. Come on, Capcom, stop screwing around.

And a Silent Hill sequel. I really enjoyed the most recent entry (Downpour), but I was wildly excited for the "Silent Hills" concept.

Now the latter will never be... :heart-empty:*sigh*

Alpha Protocol. It lacked polish (to say the least), but I think it's a good spy thriller whose formula deserves a second chance. I played through that game like four times and still never saw all the possible outcomes.

Bully, for sure. Its aesthetic suited it perfectly and it has infinite potential for an even better sequel if only Rockstar will make one. But I guess they've gotta finish Agent first. :sighduck:

Parasite Eve 2

This. The PE games had something going for them. Then the third game happens it's all thrown out to set up an edgy mindfuck time travel plot which dead-ends the series.

Half-Life, unironically. I'll never not be buttmad that I didn't get to see such a great narrative continue while it was at its most relevant. However, I see HL3's existence as an inevitability, so what matters are the effects 10~ years (and counting) spent collecting dust will have on Valve's writing.

Splinter Cell. As far as I'm concerned it's been dead since Conviction, and decomposing as of Blacklist. I've heard that Blacklist is a good game in its own right, but it's not the Splinter Cell I know. I wish they'd continued building on top of Chaos Theory instead of reinventing it as a Fuck Yeah America third-person shooter with basic stealth mechanics.

Prince of Persia. The Sands of Time trilogy could have been a great backbone for more games, but Ubi wasted years on dumb spin-offs and an irrelevant remake instead of making another solid action-platformer or two. Their one attempt to resurrect the trilogy succumbed to blandness and it's spent the past six years in a coma.

Silent Hill 2 was a masterwork. I fear that we may never see its like again.

I also really enjoyed the Legacy of Kain series (well, not the blood omen bits - they were pretty crap) - Amy Hennig really redeemed a slightly flaky franchise and made it awesome, IMO. Never played any of her other games (Uncharted being a prime example), but you can really tell where her influence was in the LoK series - the narrative just feels significantly grander in scope in the ones that she was lead writer for.

Have to agree there, Bully was amazing and I was shattered when I 100%'ed it. On that note, The Warriors was also an amazing beat 'em up and amazingly underrated. It didn't even warrant a port to the 360.

If you're into emulator gaming, grab this. A remake of the original on the Commodore 64, in 2011. http://csdb.dk/release/?id=102434

One day they'll be another Harvest Moon on consoles, I just know it *sigh*
You might not want that. Natsumi sucks so far with their brand version of Harvest Moon.If you mean the one from Natsumi, then it'll suck. It will suck entirely. They tried with Lost Valley and it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. The phone version might not be too terrible, but still.

The original game creator might, but right now they are focusing on the new 3DS game they are planning to release in the summer.

It is a shame that Panzer Elite never got a proper sequel, instead the series turned arcade schlock and was quickly forgotten.

I'm so stuck in the past, I still play Ultima VII part 2: The Serpent Isle at least once a year. I wouldn't mind an HD remake of it. EA killed the franchise after that game. And Shroud of the Avatar just... doesn't work for me.

Mechwarrior Online's a slog. I'd love a new Mechwarrior game that had a story mode.

Holy God, that would be wonderful. Just port MWO's engine over and make a new Mercenaries campaign with it.

And you know what I'm really broken up over? I only got into Metal Gear Solid with Phantom Pain, the first game in that series I had actual honest-to-God fun with. And then Konami went insane. And then the game didn't even get finished. And now there'll never be another.

I finished playing through the first MGS last month, and I'm making my way through Snake Eater now when I get tired of XCOM 2. I've really come to appreciate them for all the groundbreaking stuff they accomplished in their respective eras of gaming - I was surprised at how well the first one has aged, compared to almost everything else on the PSX - but I'd love another entry in the series with all the streamlined features that Phantom Pain introduced. And I'll never get it.
