Dead video game series/franchises you refuse to let go

If you wanna play 3 and 4, the best PSX emulator is “Duckstation”. Since 5 was on PS2, the best emulator for that would be “PCSX2” by Nightly.

Yea you can play them in 2k with other graphical improvements although the default textures will still be low resolution. Both have full controller support. I use an Xbox controller on my PC for it.
Yes I use both of those emulators on PC and an Xbox 360 controller as well. Great minds think alike!

The upscaling in PCSX2 looks unreal on games like FFX and XII. Let's see if BoF games can hook me hard too.

I want a Black & White 3 or remaster. That game was fun and technologically advanced for its time (the way your animal pets learned behaviours used a pretty complex neural net for its time)

The Creatures series is one me and my brother love, particularly Creatures 2. The norns in the game could "learn" from how they interacted from their environment and you could teach them words and actions by typing, and they'd remember. You could also use them to explore the rest of their world and uncover new biomes and other creatures (called ettins and grendels).

The developers went on to work for projects like Google's Deepmind IIRC and the creator of the game, to this day is still fiddling with neural nets and trying to create something that stands alone from ChatGPT and other "intelligent" neural nets.

Imagine if games like that were made with current tech.
Like a stupid beaten dog I long for my Lionhead classics. Black and White and Fable...these kids think Todd lies? They never met Molyneux.

Creatures 2 was a very odd game and watching them die and wither away on my watch as a child, unable to save them, only to hatch the next batch, left a mark on me.

Titanfall (2 is the benchmark of the contemporary fps imo)

Timesplitters

Amped

Cel Damage (HD is okay, still want more)

Twisted Metal

Riddick Series

Sacrifice

Gravity Rush

Resistance

Full Auto

Star Wars Starfighter Series & Empire at War Series

Anything SSX pre-On Tour

NFL Street

Fusion Frenzy

FF Tactics

Fuck, it's been ages since I last thought of Creatures 2. Never got too far, my retarded ass always forgot to teach the little bastards how to eat.

I still miss the old Warlords Battlecry games from back in the day.

Same goes for Sleeping Dogs. I wish that one got a sequel.

Prototype. Its one of the few games set in a zombie apocalypse but you are a monster far worse than the zombies and the various infected. The first game was amazing. Showed a city collapsing into chaos as war breaks out between the military and the infected. On top of that, the protag was interesting and the powers are fun! The plot is interesting too because the research into the virus shows how far and deep the conspiracy goes.

Then Prototype 2 happened and it more or less follows the same template much DIE garbage. Protag is now a villain and the plot from the previous game was discarded for a basic bitch revenge story with an angry black man stealing powers to save daughter and kill the original protag. It killed the franchise.

I consider Prototype 2 as patient zero for the DIE infection that's been ruining video games ever since.
I really liked Prototype 1 even though it became repetitive. The gameplay was fun enough and the story/setting/character was intriguing enough. Something that I really liked was when the Blackwatch soldiers rolled up and took command then learning more about them. They have experience in dealing with this shit that no one has ever seen before, which raises some questions... Small things like that kept me playing and hooks like that was sprinkled throughout the game in an effective way. The Swamp Thing:ish twist towards the end was also fun.

Loaded and Re-Loaded for the PS1 were goofy fun games where you ran around shooting people and left bloody corpses and blood trails everywhere. I loved them.

Technically you were playing as psychopaths in a heavy security prison where you'd shoot the inmates and guards while trying to unlock each area. I haven't played loaded in like 25 years though

I'm still mourning for Parasite Eve. The OGs were amazing games and Aya Brea is still one of the best women in videogames, thirty years later.

I religiously replay both games around Christmas every year, and I cri ever tim.

T3B was a decent-ish game but an abysmal PE, played it only once on launch day and, like most PE fans, don't consider it part of the franchise.

Another one I'm so sad about is Dino Crisis, and I replay them every once in a while.

I haven't really thought about how a modern-day PE or DC would fare, to be honest, and how much change from the originals I'd accept

Jak is such a product of it's time, yet I yearn for a return since it is such a weird amalgamation of ideas. I think the series could use a real reboot or remake to make it shine, and am sad that no modern developers exist that would do it justice.

Before TLOU they were going to revisit Jak and believe me when I say this you would not want them reviving the series in any capacity. When passed off to a new dev we got The Lost Frontier.

Yeah, I know all that. It's why I said no modern developers could do it. They'd fuck it up because they wouldn't be willing to embrace all the weirdness.

I would love another Warcraft RTS if this wasn't the Industry Collapse timeline. I still regularly play custom maps on a copy of WC3 that's been cracked so it won't update itself to Reforged, but still has wide-screen and such.

I was always frustrated that SC was what really blew up, and that so many RTSes now are just chasing eSports attention.

Warcraft 3, Age of Mythology/Empires 3, and a bunch of other RTSes had fun and weird mechanics, rather than ruthless competitive balancing.

People can call Pinot Malinu a lot of things but he was still a great game design even though he sometimes comes off as an egotistical over promising prick.

I'd love to see another battle for middle Earth those games were awesome it was a great combination of real time strategy and being able to throw down little old massive firewalls.

The warlord series was one of my favorite real time strategy games and turn based strategy games growing up I had them on disk a friend of mine actually originally gave me them both on a pirated disk and I had to find actual disks back when they weren't 60 **** dollars.

But sadly they're owned by the people who make payday and they now make the studio make puzzle games instead of real time strategy games and can turn base games
