Can someone explain the appeal of Death Grips to me? My friend shows me their music and I don't have to the heart to tell them it sounds like dogshit. It's just.... Noise?

Some songs are more listenable than others. I think something like Hacker is pretty easy to get into, to the point that it showed up in GTA or something. Ultimately they may just not be to your taste.

The Money Store and certain songs from Bottomless Pit and ExMilitary are probably the easiest starting places if you were looking to get into it.

Good combination of skill and creativity, I think Beware off Exmilitary is a prime example of the skill they have and MC Rides lyrics are just the cherry on top.

The reason why I love Death Grips, my favorite band, beyond the actual music itself is the people behind the art. The guys behind Death Grips live their music, they are anti-social, they have at times been homeless, they are weird social outcasts, they do not want to talk to you. They've only given a handful of interviews over the years, and it's been over a decade since they did that. The fanbase behind Death Grips would lead you to believe that it's LE FUNNI MEME BAND, I PUT THE SHIT IN THE FUCK RAAAAAAAAAH, but their music and message is actually deeply sincere in every album and almost every song. They have especially strong lyricism, which is why a common statement among Death Grips fans is "Read the lyrics". Their sound is intentionally harsh, but if you actually give it an honest try, it's not nearly as grating as the first listen would make you think.

They also have a godly stage presence, I've been to one of their concerts, it was amazing. Listen to like, No Love, Spread Eagle Cross the Block, and I've Seen Footage or Hacker, those songs are fairly easy listening by their standards, and are very catchy if you try and get into it. Granted, I've heard all of their music many many times over, so it's less foreign to me by now, but I've shown Death Grips to my most normie of normie friends and they were able to get into some of their songs. If you have any interest in more avant-garde music, they're a staple. Just stay away from their fandom, absolutely radioactive levels of cringe.

Am I the only one who listens to gmail and the restraining orders?
I've listened to it many times, it's a very interesting piece, but it can barely be considered music, so much as slamming drums, scratchy synthesizer and chopped vocals. It's like what non-fans think their entire catalogue sounds like.

Been listening since No Hands... When is the new album, Stefan? Been left blueballed for months now...
