You know what would be great, if Roth makes everyone think he's remaking Death Wish 1, but in reality the film is going to be a love letter to the Cannon films.

After watching the trailer, I think you might be on to something
The funny thing is I posted that BEFORE watching the trailer. I've always felt Death Wish is one of those franchises were people are more likely to have watched the later installments and may not have even seen the original, so if anything the movie is probably going to take more inspiration from the later films than the original.

Then he'll go get some jumbo barbecued shrimp. YOU MOTHERFUCKURRRRRRRR!

SEEEEEEE YOUUUU IN FACKIN HEEEELLLLLLL

That could be shockingly awesome.

Eli Roth seems like exactly the kind of nigga who'd do something like that. I mean did you see that shotgun drawer thing? Clearly he's making a movie that's gonna be hilarious and great af

Best case scenario: All the salt drives everyone into the theatres, movie makes major bank, convinces Hollywood to make more similar movies, the 80s action age sees a massive resurgence in popularity. Karl Urban plays Marion Cobrietti in the Cobra remake.

Tbh, I have no interest in the movie because the trailer makes it look like a tonally inconsistent mess of a movie (Wife murdered? Daughter raped? Time for it to turn into a light-hearted action movie!), especially with Eli Roth directing. However, watching people reeeeeeee is pretty entertaining.

Fun fact: Joe Carnahan, the screenwriter and the first director attached might be the saltiest person towards this movie:
Joe Carnahan said:
You had a potential Oscar-winning film with maybe the best script in Hollywood but because you're a coward and a dumb cunt you now have an untested, second-time director and an arrogant, lazy, aging action star that will run that poor kid into the ground. Good luck, asshole. You're a spineless, gutless turd who doesn't belong in the business. Enjoy your run as a 'studio head,' Glickman. It's going to be a short one. Fuck you, Joe Carnahan.

Another fun fact: This is put out by Annapurna Pictures, the same company that's putting out Detroit this weekend. Talk about playing both sides.

Joe Carnahan is a confirmed cuck. Just go up a few posts and see Jeff Goldblum's campy villain performance, and a few posts above that for the actual rape scene.

Seriously, this whole fucking movie was like if you picked "Dim" out of Alex DeLarge's gang of droogs and then put him in charge of a bunch of even dumber punks, and Jeff Goldblum was Dim.

The original movie itself was campy as fuck and involved cartoonishly evil street thugs getting shot by a guy who was pretty likable by comparison.

Also they were all white.

I saw this years ago, but don't really remember it. However, didn't the first movie have an extremely graphic rape scene of a sort I doubt you could make in 2017?

It did, and, even back then (at least in the United Kingdom), it was considered touchy enough that the BBFC edited it. According to Melon Farmers (a UK website that tracks down censorship done to British movies and movies imported from other countries [that includes America]):

The censor at the time, Stephen Murphy was concerned about the repeated use of the [word] 'cunt' during the early rape scene and also the aerosol spraying [of the daughter's rear end] in the same scene. Robust defence from director Michael Winner convinced the BBFC to leave the film uncut.

However...

The video was submitted to the BBFC in 1987. James Ferman wanted cuts but could not see how they could be made without destroying the important scene. The impasse ended up with the video being withdrawn from the BBFC rather than receiving a formal ban. But it ended up being unavailable for 13 years...

Are the Melon Farmers still around? I used to read that site every day when I was a student.
