I also know surrogate mothers, most of them poor, are used as birthing machines by the wealthy, who can now reportedly have the baby genetically tailored to order. We're not too far away from the eugenics ideal sought by Margaret Sanger and others. Don't even get me started on euthanasia. A healthy society would find all this abhorrent, vile, disgusting, and wrong, but this is Clown World, a sometimes-hideous place to bring the kids.

Not really, for research purposes maybe but a lot of the cell lines taken from fetuses can be grown on their own. Same with HeLa cells.
I agree poor women are exploited by the surrogacy industry but it's not really bad that they're looking for desirable genetic traits. A girl I know with a genetic muscle disease said that many people with her disease who can't afford IVF test the fetus for the disease mutation and abort the baby if it has one, until they have a healthy baby who doesn't have to suffer like them. I think that's a good thing.

Disagreed, it's fine as long as it's not for mental illness or something treatable. Terminal conditions, dementia and degenerative diseases like ALS are all valid reasons for euthanasia. The important thing is to make hospice and palliative widely available and high quality so no one feels forced to choose euthanasia to deal with untreated pain.
