FWIW, for what (I assume) are the various newbies who might have missed it:

If you want to quote reply someone and just posted, just quote the post, copy the draft in the bottom box, click "edit" on your existing post, and hit ctrl+v and voila! the quote is now on your old post and you can write whatever reply you want.

I don't see the advantage.

Merging threads however can be annoying as it makes the topic invisible to the site and then random people start whining about the people in the thread 'not integrating' or 'adapting' or whatever the fuck.
