Debate Global Moderator Trombonista on the merits of merging multiposts

I am the double post deviant. I double post and report double posts.

I don't even bother merging posts in the shitposting boards but the two people who report every doublepost insist on it
To be fair you guys are all over the place in what you want in reports. "Report every post." "Once a thread is enough." "Resize all big pictures." "You mean thumbnail."

I think there are some cases where double posting may be justified. For example, say someone makes a post, a few people click agree to it over a few hours period but nobody actually responds in the thread.

But then something new pops up that might change the entire nature of the post. Do you edit your old post or make a new post right under it? I would say the latter rather then the former.

Does editing a post to @ a person still send them the message that you've @'d them? That might be an argument in favor of sparing the doubleposter scourge.

The fair solution would be to add a 2-5 minute cooldown for posting in a thread after posting in it. It wouldn't limit follow-on bump posts from the same user in dead threads, and it would force multiposters to either wait or edit their post. Multiposters are usually motivated to do so because they're sperging out, so they'll be forced to learn.

Other random UI idea, force auto "click to expand"-esque styling on posts over a certain height to make navigating threads where people make massive essay posts quoting a billion other posts in the thread (usually in sperg arguments). It would make navigating threads like that simpler, and decrease the amount of whining and reports from people annoyed by it.

Multiposting doesn't need to be justified because it's perfectly fine to have multiposts and only seething autists would care, but what isn't debatable is when a retarded lolcow leaves actual evidence of crimes on KF in seething multiposts and you go and merge them all because you're a retarded busybody janny, you've spoliated evidence for the sake of your retard power trip.

I think multiposting is 100% fine all of the time, but at the very least if somebody is hilariously losing their shit and multiposts a whole series of gibbering seethe it should be left alone because the fact that they're in multiposts makes it a lot funnier.

Is it a viable time investment to eventually have Sneedforo coded in the ontopic boards to have either a posting time limit between uninterrupted consecutive posts by a user to prevent multi posts in the first place or even to have them automatically merged if done within a certain time period? (Assuming it's a substantial portion of the mod queue that is.)
