It goes without saying that every change made on this forum have a certain purpose, value etc.
It also goes without saying that some decisions have mixed results and usually retain the "questionable" status for N-number of users and one of such features are privacy options.

Josh have mentioned back then that privacy options were screwed up on purpose back then, therefore there were no private accounts whatsoever, now with recent "glow up" Ooperator have fixed that funny feature and a lot of afterthought have come after this.

Yes at one point this change indeed useful but only to a limited amount of people on this forum, I may guess this decision was made in favor of Beauty Parlor users and I generally have nothing against it. We also have people like Caroline Farrow on this site with both verified account and designated thread in them names that are NOT lolcow, just either good samaritans, decent passerbies or our good friends in certain fashion.

ON THE OTHER HAND WE HAVE SINGLE BRAINCELL NIGGERS with shitty opsec that are use now fixed feature of account privacy to hide from well deserved ridicule. Such as newfags that come and go on there and intentionally ignoring all the alerts and warning signs before registering here, local lolcows that want to hide from roasting and some oldfags even that just happen to say some real dumb shit and now have to pay for it and be laughed at.

So, tell me fellow Kiwis on your opinion regarding this bullshit, how do you feel and what do you think can be done about it?

I feel like it's a stupid idea to allow people to lock down their profiles in the first place, there is no real reason for doing so other than avoiding getting indexed by web crawlers. An idea I had was having it so that staff would have to approve every request for profiles to be made private.

I also believe it should be limited to T&H unless they prove themselves to be halal cows, poor OPSEC, get banned, etc. If they are unable to laugh at yourself for something stupid that they said, that's more on them. Everyone gets laughed at once in a while for saying something retarded. To shut down one's profile to protect yourself is thin skinned, take the punches..

Ideally just go back to the old profile system, it worked fine and needed no "fixing".
If null really wants to appeal to the pissbabies, however; just give users the default xenforo user abilities to limit who can post on their profile along with being able to delete posts on their profile and remove the ability for users to make their profile private.
Trying to see the profiles of inactive and banned users or just trying to see the posts of regular users and being greeted with that error page is annoying.

A lot of ideas ITT are just more pointless bullshit coming from the idea that this feature needs to be "improved." This shouldn't be a feature.

Ask yourself this: if this feature was due to a genuine need, why did it take over a decade to implement it? Why is it that Dear Feeder has only just now implemented it?

I personally don't care who requested it, demanded it, bothered Null about it, etc. It doesn't matter. It's a retarded feature.

Ask yourself this as well: would you want lolcows to be able to take down their Kiwi Farms threads?

Back in the day the measure of competence was whether you could figure out how to get on the internet. In the modern age, the bar seems to be how retarded are you to reveal your real identity and life on the internet by using the same username everywhere?

There were already de facto "privacy" settings, it is called "profile posting" and it was always disableable;

Pissbabies literally just have to use that one account setting if being e-child stalked rustles their jimmies so hard (just use ignore you wimps), but they'd miss out on out asspats I suppose but oh well, blanket ninja profiles are simply an unnecessary measure and all it achieves is making tracking content more burdensome for no good reason, other than "anti harassment", on a fucking gossip forum of all places, cringe.

The merit of competence and human decency these days is to not have xitter, bluesky, reddit and any mastodon account. That makes you at least SOMEWHAT competent human being... on the other hand we have cases of kiwi niggers who have neither of these yet still happen to fail to OPSEC, miserably.

Am I right, myself? Yeah...

Here's some news for ya choom: most of these people of interest aren't there to begin with so your suggestion is invalid at best.
There are a lot of posters here that have threads or are directly involved with a lolcow or event. Plus, you have the bad OPSEC thread users and pink triangles.

I heard the reason behind this change is to not motivate other people to do trolling plans (seeing what is a bannable offence).
Null made it like that for a reason. He mentioned that if that was a thing, people would intentionally pull off stupid shit to get the most legendary banreason on their profile
But I find it retarded. I can still see the banned/halal's posts by searching.
If the privacy is the concern, just don't expose the profile to guests. (Ironically this change exposes the accounts by having the option to make your profile visible to guests.)
