Besides that there's nothing to look at on someone's profile, other than maybe what stickers they're giving out in latest activity (but I wouldn't be surprised if you can fetch that without having to go through their profile)

At a certain point, you can't win. Null did not introduce this new profile hiding feature because he was paid to, or was asked, or had people begging for it, or as a joke. He did it because he's sick and tired of people infighting and a lot of this occurs via profile posts. This would never have happened if users on this website could help themselves.

Now a user can private their page and that's the end of it. Don't like it? Too bad. Make a thread about it if you deem it worthy. The fact that no one is doing so is a pretty good sign they know, if they make a thread for mocking another user, they will themselves get mocked at best or berated by site staff at worst.

Call me whatever you want or give me any sticker you like but if the site allows me I will do it. I don't need a reason not to. The feature wasn't on the site when I registered and I was fine with it and I won't cry if they remove it again. But I will use it when it's available.
There can be exceptions for halal'd or banned users however.

You can ask him yourself but I imagine, to your first question, it has finally reached a point that we get what we have now, or Null starts banning people who make too much janny work for him.

I do agree that it has the potential of pushing more drama into Mass Debates, but there is also the potential for self-policing in that outcome. If I decide to make a thread bitching about you in Mass Debates, other users can look at it and go "you're retarded, shut up" and the matter is settled. Otherwise, I'd just spam your profile page and the drama would fester - off to the side, yes, but it would still fester. This is just armchair bullshit on my part, though, so don't put much stock in it.

As for infighting: people getting into fights all the time is not how you get a healthy community. It also creates situations where two retards go to staff/Null and demand they arbitrate when no one else gives a fuck about their petty fight. Telling people to shut up, get over it, and move on has not worked when it comes to interpersonal disputes.

I think profile privacy shouldn’t mean you get to memory-hole your mistakes or dodge accountability. Users should be allowed to control who can comment on their profiles to avoid spam or vendetta posting, but the comments themselves should stay up once they’re made, no deletion allowed. If you say something dumb, own it. That’s the culture here. Locking your profile and hiding the comments just turns it into a hugbox.

Agree. The option to limit or disable who can post to your profile or send DMs is fine. Everything else is some hugbox bullshit that needs to go away.

The pay to play stuff should be for the feature thing, post marking or whatever it’s called. Free users can still compete if they make a good post. There needs to be an equivalent for free users that is similar but they have to work for, so to speak. Paypigs can just pay to feature.

Everyone with their ideas of charging for things that this site already offers, are fooling themselves if they think it’ll draw more users. It’ll end up with user loss if all the things that have always been free become pay to play.

Needs careful thought & to be balanced, rather than drastic or having new policy informed & influenced by paypigs only.

Gotcha, my bad. Seemed like an ok spot to bring that up. I read the thread, & I think it’ll change soon enough either way, ie, the current state won’t last. I saw some dumb comments ITT about allowing private profiles for paypigs, was responding to that. Probably should have quoted the post I was replying to because at a glance it does look tangentially related rather than directly related. Point being, I think the idea of slapping a price tag on certain features is the wrong answer, either way.

You can laugh at people locking down their profiles, which is something I've seen people doing in the Hall of Shame thread already. If you have an issue with them doing this because it means you can't constantly go into their profile to say "RAPED NIGGER IM GONNA RAPE YOU NIGGER NIGGER DUMB FAGGOT PEDOPHILE NIGGER" then you're also someone worth laughing at. Make a Mass Debates thread and let us laugh at you for it.

I will agree, however, that pink triangles, verified tagged users and banned users deserve to have this privilege revoked. Mainly, we should be allowed to see permabanned profiles just to know why they were permabanned to begin with, as more often than not context is posted into their profiles (and I've seen null do that once or twice before the change too). Pink triangles also more often than not are lolcows themselves even if they didn't get halal'd or didn't get a thread, thus don't deserve the right to enter a circlejerk with the privacy settings. For example, we've been having a bit of an issue with @Claudio Hernández Castañeda as he loves DM chaining people rather than responding in his thread, and constantly makes edits to his profile we cannot see. Given that what he's caused, he shouldn't have that privilege. But alas it's been said this is on the low priority list so nothing we can do about it.
