Personally I do not support splitting along ideology lines, but having multiple threads is not insane or unprecedented. There are multiple threads on Trump, on China, on the recent school shooter.

The Ukraine war is a case where there are two very different narratives that clearly cannot coexist

You're arguing with someone who's chronically depressed and hates A&N, but moderates it for free because it's the only power he has in his life. Doing something like 'banning report abusers' and encouraging discussion is too sensible.

I've been in threads about this topic for over a year and I've never ever seen a pro Russian poster engage in a honest conversation, let alone one that is based on evidence. All they do, literally every single one of them, 100% of the time, is post lies, argue in bad faith, and ultimately resort to insults, and then run to jannies to report you for hate speech if you call them dishonest retards to get you banned. And they spam their shit to an insane degree. Why post something once if you can post it 50 times? Why not actually just copy paste posts from days ago and tag random people so any kind of conversation gets droned out by the noise they create? If you lurk their echo chamber discussions, it's nothing but parroting lies to each other and gloating about the amount of human misery caused by Russian troops. Because their posts contain no information and require no thought, they can flood every space they are allowed free roaming in into a cesspool. They're genuinely worthless subhumans in every way. Low intelligence friendless losers and low functioning schizophrenics who think they are fighting an information war by doing these things. Utterly impossible to talk to or be around.

The pro-Ukraine side has the usual amount of retards you can find on any side of any argument, but their threads are filled with people who are genuinely knowledgeable and interested and most of their discussion is about the material and political realities, weighing and assessing information, and trying to figure out what is actually going on by comparing and contrasting information from various sources. When you read some bullshit in a pro-Ukraine thread you can be sure that another pro-Ukraine poster will correct it. Never a pro-Russian poster, because none of them actually know anything about the war or its historical and political context.

These two groups are fundamentally incompatible with each other and if you force them to coexist the first group will completely swamp out the second because nobody with even two baincells to rub together will bother to wade through the oceans of shit they put out to find sensible discussion or factual information that may or may not be sprinkled in by the occasional tourist who doesn't know what they're getting into.

For example, my posts about the Balkans and NATO in the Ukraine thread landed me a 1 week threadban because I was insufficiently pro-NATO. This crap is not healthy for one's mind. I think some were banned from the Russia thread for being insufficiently pro-Russian too.
There are also almost no chances to fix this stuff now, because once you create the hugbox, everyone knows who belongs where, and every attempt at a discussion will be met with suspicion.
Also since this is a war, it's important to understand some might have direct or emotional involvement, maybe even know people that died. Expecting them to shitpost with you in a nihilistic manner might be unrealistic.
