Please cut the whole "free discussion from both sides" crap. One had to to browse through dozens after dozens of pages with nothing but shitflinging to find a single meaningful post. There never WAS a meaningful discussion between the pro-RU and the pro-UA crowd on this site, or anywhere else on the Internet to begin with.

Admittedly, yes, both threads suffer from the fact that we have essentially imposed purity/loyalty tests. That leads to weird scenarios where certain individuals managed to get threadbanned from both threads for breaking containment. Participation in this thread, by necessity requires some amount of loyalty to the Russian cause, or some amount of animosity towards towards NATO/Ukr/etc. Similarly, you must be pro-NATO and Ukr to participate in the other thread. Quality of the posters aside, I have always maintained by disagreement with this system, not the least because I had attempted to keep the previous thread (and the A&N version) alive best I could. Ultimately it had more enemies than friends. Infighting, biting the hand that feeds, constant rule breaks, endless complaints (all of which were some variation of "we iz king! How dare rule apply to me!"), and the fact that the moderation teams had more people pro-shutting it down than pro-keeping it alive, all lead to the faithful day it got closed. And now we have this.
No, one thread is discussing how Taiwan has air superiority over all countries, and another thread is discussing whether or not the Chinese genocide the Uighurs and whether or not that's a good thing. What does all this have to do with Ukraine and Russia? Ehhh...

There was already separation, with a little bit of back and forth, but the old happenings thread got brigaded. The problem is how to deal with Reddit fags, they're loathsome scum who make everything cringe and gay. Example- new talking point the discord leaks are fake. Been confirmed by USG that they're real, but Reddit bros know they're not because they show Ukraine as losing when everyone knows they're winning easily, so they can't be real. Also why do they need to archive when they can link to a Reddit thread? So not fair. Then back to a dozen pages of discussing NATO wunderwaffe, torturous.

Putting aside which side is actually right, the main problem is that the two threads have entirely different perspectives on the war, with different content that they consider relevant, and which information sources are likely to be trustworthy or lying their pants off. Having both discussions in the same thread just creates a perpetual deadlock of everything one side considers common sense the other side is disputing, and we're perpetually arguing about the same things over and over and over again instead of paying attention to the aspects of the war they consider relevant.

Thanks for the explanation. I have been downvoted in both threads since the split. I'm frustrated because the Farms has been one of the few places where people can speak freely and cut through the BS, but on this issue, the two sides would rather have their hugboxes, it seems. When there is so much propaganda coming from both sides, I appreciated the back-and-forth, messy as it was, to sort out some of the BS. I can get the propaganda anywhere else, but the freedom of discussion is what sets the Farms apart. If people were misbehaving by harassing the mods with frivolous reports, I think it would ideally be better to punish the misbehavior, although maybe that's not practical with the sheer volume of it (and throwaway accounts, etc.). There's probably no good solution, but I still don't like this one.
